I love how they have the other characters running around in the background. Even though you’re playing single player, it gives the illusion that they are still part of the story.
What's even cooler about this is that it still happens in multiplayer with less than 4 people. I saw footage of 3 people playing co-op as tails, knuckles, and amy, and in speed jungle near the boss sonic ran by because he was the only character not being played.
As much as people are talking bad things about this game, it actually looks like a solid 2D Sonic experience to me. Would definitely love to play it if it wasn't so expensive... I also really love how the game looks, it kept the vibrant and charming air of classic Sonic even without pixels
i think that is the main point why people are so critical with this game the price. If it would cost something between 20-40€/$ i think it would be watched more favorable but close to full price for a relativly short 2d action game you have to deliver perfection or something close to it which this game seemingly,i didn’t play it myself, falls short off
The value proposition is horrible though. This is NOT a full-priced game's worth of content. sixty dollars for four hours of genuinely mediocre platforming and very mediocre graphics is just not realistic. What other games are valued at $60? What else can someone get for sixty bucks? It just makes no sense.

It's strange seeing the Chaos Emeralds have their own separate power. Though let's be real here, Bullet is just Burst from the DS Sonic Colors. Not a complaint just an observation
I personally really like the idea that you get rewarded after each emerald collected, rather then only once you get them all. I really hope this keeps going for future classic Sonic games. Only need to avoid abilities that have no use outside they're "intended" spots, like Vision
This game is a box of references, Speed Jungle in particular features a mechanic that we would have seen on Wood from Sonic 2 if said zone was completed which was trampolines, so it's amazing that they included a reference to a scrapped idea. There are others references that might not be references but we can still consider to be so, such as Pinball Carnival's Act 1 theme sounding pretty much the same as the theme for World Bowser on Mario 3D World, another Mario-like thing I found on the game was the water bugs that resembles the Skeeters. I liked the idea for Egg Fortress Act 2, very good one. Overall this game is a better version of both Sonic 4 and Sonic Mania, I also get Sonic Colors vibes from it and was wishing for the Wisps to appear but then again those new powers resembles the ones from the Wisps so it's almost the same thing and that is great. And that is for Sonic Superstars, now let's see what Super Mario Bros. Wonder has in store for us.
Tails got a unique act? And it’s designed around his abilities?! That’s a first! Also, I thought Frozen Base Zone Act 2 was going to be another Sky Chase-esc level, but it being a big reference to Fantasy Zone (the game where one of Sega’s first mascots, Opa Opa came from) was really cute!
This game looks fine and all. I like how each of the characters have their own stages built around them and they aren’t just added in and the powers with the chaos emeralds are also pretty cool however, some of the platforming can be shallow and the environments are kind of bland imo. I would get this game but not at full price. This game costs 40 or less not full AAA 60 dollars
The first half of this game is solid. Great high speed platforming and music. The second half? I’m sorry, but there’s an evident dip in quality. Too many gimmicks that don’t feel like Sonic and music that got worse. Not sure what happened there. It’s still a decent game overall, but not worth $70 IMO.

You're mistaken. The level design is all about verticality and not being over-reliant on the automatic segments. This is true from act 1 of zone 1 to the very end. Sonic Superstars has the best level design in the entire series, I truly believe people are looking at this game all wrong and appreciating how great it is.

SONIC IS A PLATFORMER JUST LIKE MARIO IS AND THEY ACTUALLY USED TO COMPETE, KIDDIES. the reason why 3d sonic games suck, and both 2d and 3d Mario games are great is because 3d Mario games didn't lose what they are supposed to be during th transition to 3d while Sonic games have lost that ever since Sonic Unleashed. Sonic Adventure is the route the series should have been headed in instead of a glorified speed running racing game where you complete levels in 2 minutes LOL. This game has content, so it wants you to slow down to experience it and collect it all as all older sonic games had in the past.
Do the shields still exist in this game? I loved Sonic's shield powers in Sonic 3 and Knuckles. If they've replaced the shield powers with the emerald powers, that's a terrible downgrade.

They had a perfect formula with Sonic 3 and Knuckles. All they had to do was continue with that formula. But instead they removed an essential part of the gameplay. A major disappointment.
@KenShackler tbf, the shield abilities arent just replaced by the emrald powers. The electric shields magnetic powers were moved to a separate item box, the double jump was given to Amy, one of the emerald powers is basically just an improved fire sield, another emerald power lets you actually swim, and the bubble shields bounce was never that great anyway. Most of the emerald powers aren't great but I don't think it's that big of a downgrade. More characters having access to more abilities is always a good thing.

If I've understood it correctly you can only use each emerald power once in a level. That doesn't sound like fun to me. The great thing about the shield powers was that it rewarded you for playing well. You could have the power forever if you're a good enough player. And the bonus stages were an essential part of the game because of the shield powers. There was actually a reason to go to the bonus stages cause you always needed a specific shield in certain levels. It was a perfect flawless system. So it sucks that they removed it.
This is a great game and all, but I gotta say... After a slaptastic boss theme like 'Ruby Delusions' in Sonic Mania, Sega did Robotnik dirty with whatever this boss theme is...

Would be better if you explored the levels rather than just trying to get from left to right in too much of a rush, like you don't actually want to play the game, just to get the video finished. Makes it a bit dull.
All it gives is coins. Which will be lost when enemies hit me. This is why I don't explore in sonic games. You spent 20 mins earning coins and in an instant they are gone. So makes it hard for me to 'explore' as you say. If there was a secret ending or boss sure. But getting the true final boss only requires the emeralds
But there are special stages and bonus levels to complete too. Plus, as a viewer, I'd like to see more of the levels to get a more complete idea of the whole package. I can play through sonic game's levels carefularly, with a bit of care and finish with hundreds of rings. You don't need to be crashing into every obstacle as you rush to the end of the stages.
Golden capital knuckles zone u need 2 realise that knuckles can climb walls & u keep jumping on & off them to no avail then just using the vine power instead of using knuckles abilities that's not how it works try pushing up & down 2 climb and decend with him. Oh corrections u do eventually realise this is the first sonic game UV played?

This gameplay reminds me a lot of Sonic Generations, easy to follow and i love the bonus stages, will get this game later on!

It reminds me of Sonic Advance 3. Each emerald has its own unique world/dimension, supposedly.

Would be better if you explored the levels rather than just trying to get from left to right in too much of a rush, like you don't actually want to play the game, just to get the video finished. Makes it a bit dull.
All it gives is coins. Which will be lost when enemies hit me. This is why I don't explore in sonic games. You spent 20 mins earning coins and in an instant they are gone. So makes it hard for me to 'explore' as you say. If there was a secret ending or boss sure. But getting the true final boss only requires the emeralds
But there are special stages and bonus levels to complete too. Plus, as a viewer, I'd like to see more of the levels to get a more complete idea of the whole package. I can play through sonic game's levels carefularly, with a bit of care and finish with hundreds of rings. You don't need to be crashing into every obstacle as you rush to the end of the stages.

Golden capital knuckles zone u need 2 realise that knuckles can climb walls & u keep jumping on & off them to no avail then just using the vine power instead of using knuckles abilities that's not how it works try pushing up & down 2 climb and decend with him. Oh corrections u do eventually realise this is the first sonic game UV played?
