Started renting the pop-ups I had to purchase for my marriage July 2021.
Within 2 months, I had 4 10X10 popups, 2 10X20 popup 1 20x20 frame tent, a 6X12 closed trailer, 75 Costco black chairs and 10 6 feet tables. All paid for, except the trailer.
In the Gatineau/Ottawa area, there are a fair amount of big rental cies, but they are all big, with large overhead and a hard time finding staff. So I aimed at the little back-door parties.
Then I started watching your videos as well as Lee's and the tent guy.
1 Dec 21 I started bidding side panels and chairs from some overstock items from a party cie in Toronto. Well, the bidding happened quick and I was overly successful. I purchased almost 400 chairs for about 1/2 of the new price. But it's so many that now I have a storage issue and not nearly enough rental to own all that. But storage is not all, I now need dollys, docking shelves and so many expensive logistics items that are just as expensive as the rental items themselves.
Hope next summer I have more success!

I am not sure if they are growing pains as much as unforseen expenses. After building 2x4 shelving, I realise it's not strong enough. So tomorrow, I have to spend another $500 for used industrial sheving to fix my storage issue. Fortunetly, I am old enough to afford it, but as I told the shelving guy, I'd rather spend smart the spend cheap. I kinda learned that lesson several decades ago, but every once in a while I still get cought repeating my old mistakes.
It's cheaper to spend more initially than repair and redo.
Your words really inspires me to go for my Film Equipment rental house dream.! ♥️
Gorth.. Your fired. 🔥
I like it! Nice job with this video.
Thank you for sharing your wisdom
I like this, I would like more content on risk, contracts, insurance etc. Just one item is all I'm interested in. Thanks.
Thank you 🙏🏽
chingom., gracias gracias gracias saludos desde sonora mexico
Good topic, excellent way to start. Why didn’t I think of this before you?!
OMG! Thank you. I've been wandering how much will I need to start a rental business. Everything change just after I watch your video. God bless you
Thanks for the video. What is the process for a client to book the rental item and payment? Does it need any deposit also?
Very helpful information . I'm also interested in the rental business.
Im trynna rent a tow boom arm but i just wanna know if i need a permit to rent cuz i know some contractors that do painting and use really big ladders so it would more convenient and efficient for them to use a boom arm so do i need a permit to rent machinery like that??
Do you buy the items to be put on rent?
When you say 1 item, you mean like you can literally start off with 1 item then later add more of the same 1 item? Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge.
Great video! I’m interested in starting up but I live in an apartment so it will be home based. Do you think storing my items in a storage would be ok and just do delivery only when I get orders?
Yes definitely. We just went Live with Tentx (see latest videos), and Ryan is doing exactly the same thing - delivery only.
Great idea! Two questions: #1 what do you do if customers want to rent out more than what you have? #2 where do you purchase your chairs/tables to start you business?
TIA😊
#1: Sub Rent from other companies, say no to the job, or book in advance and buy/find the items later.
Just found your channel and inspired to look into this. I'm thinking about renting out whole golf sets. I'm from Canada too, so I'm looking to start rent out golf sets for driving ranges and when spring rolls around, to golfers on courses. I have 6 full sets all big brands such as Taylormade and Callaway etc. Any advice? Go direct or work with driving ranges and courses and split with them?
Only issue is that golf courses might have their own equipment they want to sell or rent. So I would definitely go direct.
@@TheRentalJourney they do, but most have either bad sets or decent sets that they charge big money for. What tool/app do you use for point of sale and credit card preauthoriztion for deposits? Thanks man!
Good shuffle. You can get a free trial here: pro.goodshuffle.com/trb-vlogs/
How do you insure you get your item back of your just starting on Facebook or craigslist ? I understand just do it , lol but how do I make sure I get the arch back if I'm doing the free listening?
2/3 of these helps: Take a deposit, take a picture of drivers license, take credit card.
Hey just currious, where in the world do you live? I'm guessing some place up north due to the snow in February.
How is this type of business during covid? I think rental anything is great business as people wants to save money and don't want to spend $$ for one time or a few time use. Have something money , buy something that people will rent with easy process at least at the beginning.
How much do you rent the item? Say, I want to rent out a chair. The chair wholesale costs me $50, but how much should I charge to rent it out?
Depends on your market.
Regular folding chair here is $15 to buy and we rent it out for $1.50 < for example.
I thought if you rented tents you have to also offer tables and chairs? NO?
What do i do that wont make them steal the item?
@@TheRentalJourney and also where is the best place that i can promote what im renting? thank you.
Did her start with just a 10x10 pop up tent?
There’s a recent video talking about what we started with somewhere there
I thought Canada didn't have criminals. Here in the states everyone says Canadians don't lock their doors lol
No crime in residential. Lots of crime in industrial and farm areas. haha.
I luv u & the info u give how can I reach u. Are u on Facebook I have more questions.
Great videos man! I have a party rentals company in Newfoundland. Perhaps we could chat when you have time, I do have a couple questions.
I took your advice. I started with the few items I have which is 3 tables and 30 chairs and so far I've been getting booked. 🙂 The foundation is growing. Now I have a regular customer. I learned to use my competition as friends. Rent their stuff if the customers wants more. I rent from someone else and the ball is rolling.
Awesome. I'm excited to see you grow!
@@TheRentalJourney did you have a permit first before starting?
Wondering how is the business now. I like your idea about using your competitor.
@@jamescc2010 I'm divorced, gave the business to my ex wife and is just amazing how I planted the seed and now every weekend she's being used/booked.
