Welcome to my channel! This is a music reaction channel. For the longest time, I've loved creating content on the internet. I started off with a gaming channel right here on UA-cam, which eventually turned into a Twitch gaming channel, but as time has gone on I've evolved into doing other things on UA-cam. For years now I've wanted to create a music channel on UA-cam, and recently just figured "why not?", so it’s time to give this a go! Give me any suggestion you have for music reactions, and I will do my best to get around to them. As music has fallen further out of my life, I figured this would be a great time to get reintroduced to music.

Brings back so many memories
This is the song that when beat poet Allen Ginsburg first heard it he broke down and cried recognizing that the torch was just handed down to a new generation in the form of a young man named Bob Dylan.
Allen Ginsburg told Bob his favorite song was "Desolation Row" and he also loved this one!!!
That's what Ginsburg claimed.
Sixty years on, this song still breaks my heart.
To think that a 22 year old wrote a song this great is just amazing. To follow it up with 60 years of excellence proves his Nobel Prize was well-deserved.

@@stevenkarner6872 As Dylan went electric he was described as an "amphetamine prick". And during the 1965-66 tour -- see "No Direction Home" -- he was doing not only a ton of weed but was also overamping on speed. Look especially at the last interview when he's rocking back-and-forth and talking about dying in a plane crash; he had gone into paranoia.
There's a New Egland Poet, as I recall Archibald MacLeish, who said that no poem was ever written out off a glass of ice water.
You simply don't understand poetry. And if you are good at research, you can find an article online that explores the difference between song lyrics and poetry. A base line is that rhyming doesn't automagically make it poetry. But not knowing better, there are those who automatically assume that rhyming equals poetry.

Dylan taking a several hundred years old ballad and re-writing it into a lyrical gem. Great song.

The Dylan rabbit hole is very deep. His poetry is on the highest level. I'm pretty sure that he was still emulating Woodie Guthrie with his vocal tone and guitar playing.
I came of age in the 60s singing his songs in coffee houses and anywhere people would listen.

No one on earth writes like Dylan. He uses metaphors to convey his messages. I was fortunate to hear most of his stuff at the time it was released. A+ for the song... and, also, for the reaction.

I've been studying -- not simply reading -- poetry since the 1960s, and am a published poet.
But if you can't deal with the issue, then resort to your expertise in personal attack.
Dylan is one of the greatest poet ever and he's 🕐 of greatest American writer ever and u feel his words and get it I was lucky my mom loves Dylan so I grew up listening to him
These early Dylan songs are lyrical jewels. He started out as a folk singer, just him, his guitar and harmonica...a one man band.

His phrasing and delivery is insane
This is one of my favorite Dylan songs (I know, I say that about every one of them). . . the depth of this one, though. The warning to us all, is so evident - whether we'll heed it or not, well look where we are again!
One of BD's great classics. The sleeve notes on the vinyl album quote him as saying ' it's a desperate kind of song. - written during the Cuban missile crisis of October 1962 when those who allowed themselves to think of the possible results of the Kennedy- Khrushchev confrontation were chilled by the imminence of oblivion. Every line in it is actually the start of a whole song. But when I wrote it, I thought I wouldn't have enough time alive to write all those songs so I put all I could into this one.
All I'll say is the relentless guitar is brilliant. It carries the song.
The Cuban Missile Crisis began on October 16, 1962. Dylan first performed this song on September 20, 1962. Obviously, the song was not "written during the Cuban missile crisis of October 1962".
Perfect song to listen to when reading Cormac McCarthy’s The Road.
One of the reasons Dylan wrote "A Hard Rain" was in response to the Cuban Missile Crisis. A "Hard Rain" is Nuclear Fallout.
My interpretation of the song is this…
Parent: Hey Kiddo, you’ve been out it the world, what did you see?
Child: I saw struggle, and a storm is coming.
Parent: So what shall you do now?
Child: I’m going back into the storm, but do not fear the hard rain.
A powerful song. It's based upon the the 17th century poem "Lord Randall".

Definitely should check out the live version of this from the Rolling Thunder Revue in 1975, the instrumentation is completely different and Dylan's voice is electric.
His central word in several songs is "hard". Listen to the sound he puts on it in 'Like a Rolling Stone" at Newport. It's the central word to the song.
There is good reason he was early on labelled as The Poet of his generation. He certainly has been one of our great lyricists.
The freewheeling Bob Dylan album is an absolute masterpeace
From his second LP which was his first album of original songs. Pure genius. Even then.
Several of the songs on this LP were written during and after the Cuban Missile Crisis.
This song is 50 plus years old and it is just a true today as it was then. The suffering and hatred we see in the world is still here. The rain is still going to fall but I hope that all of us can take our love and hope for humanity to the top of the mountain and reflect it so all souls can see it. We have to be the difference. I love you guys.
Supposedly written during the Cuban missile crisis when he didn't think he would have time to write all the songe he wanted. Each line is the first line of each song.

For me Dylan wrote this as a comment about the sheltered or willfully ignorant lives most Americans lived in the 50’s and early 60’s and even, to some extent, live today.
He contrasts the ‘pleasant’ lives they live with the horrors that can happen in the world. They get up, go to work, come home for dinner, talk about the weather and so on. All the while these horrible things are going on around the world that they don’t want to hear about.
But he has broken with them, he can't live with blinders on and has gone to face the world.
This song remains relevant because every generation has their Hard Rain to get through; for me and mine it was the 60s. Bonne Chance...........

The most idea rich song I have ever heard.
Classic Dylan tune. He did one called Let Me Die in My Footsteps around this time with a similar philosophy.
Its a great song, but the short time between those songs he leveled up like 50 times as a writer. And Let Me Die is great lyrically.

Is the hard rain radioactive nuclear fallout from the bomb? Dylan told a radio interviewer “no, it’s about a hard rain that can destroy crops, property and destroy lives in floods”. Well, Bob it also means something else. Bob said it means what you hear. He said he thought he knew what it meant as he he wrote it. But, a song belongs to the listener, too.
Your reaction was "right on". Its prophetic, the way things are going now in the world and the USA, i think we've yet to see the really big "storm" that's coming our way. I hope not, praying for peace and sharing.

Dylan put a song out in 2020 called ''I contain Multitudes'' , I relate that to his songs/lyrics which usually give me a multitude of thoughts , ideas , visions and meanings as I listen to them ...IMO

I was 19 in 1988 when I first discovered Dylan. In the space of about a year Kerouac, Dylan, Kesey, and Whitman changed my perception forever. Dylan is a rabbit hole you must be very careful exploring. His range is endless and he becomes more and more fascinating the more you listen to his music. This album is monumental but is probably only 4th or 5th among his best works, certainly after his mid-60's trio of Bringing it All Back Home, Highway 61 Revisited, and Blonde on Blonde. Just listen to those albums in their entirety.

Just think, Bob was only 21 when he wrote this 61 years ago.
The Hard Rain he is singing about is NUCLEAR FALLOUT, just so you know.
This was the world I grew up in where the "hard rain" would be nuclear missiles and nothing much we could do if it happened.

Common misconception for over 60 yrs is that Hard Rain was written after the Cuban Missile crises that happened in Oct. 1962. When we came closest to an atomic war ever. ( so far) ……Actually Hard Rain was written in August of 1962.
He denied that interpretation and explained (when he was still explaining his songs) that it was a metaphor for something bad coming/falling.
Dylan admitted he made a deal with the devil. These lyrics are what each lucifer (My Son) and my darling young one (Jesus) were seeing of his creations from their points of view.
Just as relevant today as it was 60 years ago.
Check out the album Blood on the Tracks. Written in the mid 70s it’s one of his best albums: Tangled Up In Blue, Idiot Wind, Shelter From the Storm. There’s not a bad cut on it, and you’ll see a bit of his development too

He was talking about the Míssiles crise in Cuba between USA and URSS. Kennedy versus Khrushchev. Fidel and Che Guevara revolutionaries were in power and nuclear missiles were spoted being shipped in the ocean to be installed in Cuba. The closest time the world was on a blink of a nuclear war. Bob though he was afraid he wasn't last for a very long time 😊

I try not to see a single point of thought or singular message in this song. Its easier for me to enjoy and get more out of it when I think of each line as a separate thought and try to find my meaning in each one.
for me vietnam vets not a little bit better than german nzs... and all in the US call them heros... best joke ever made... there is a good 10 part docu over the war in vietnam, korea and all the countries around available and not with typical US PR... only the hard and sad trues... and every american, who speak sht about germany, should look at their own soldiers and be quiet...

I always thought the "Hard Rain" was Noah's flood, when God washed away the evil that humanity had become. The rest of the lyrics were like the visions from Revelations.
Dylan always had biblical references, but this song has so much more to say than the absurdities of that book.
@@Hexon66 Absurdities is what I'm thinking. It's kind of hard to assign meanings to his metaphors in the song. It leaves me wondering, "What the hell is he talking about?" Like Revelations, I'm thinking, "Just tell me what the hell you're talking about".
