    The Queen Mary is such a treasure and you showcased it so beautifully. This makes the perfect background video for when guests are over, to beckon them to want to visit the ship themselves.

    My wife and I are going to spend our 50th anniversary on board the Queen Mary this coming March. We were married aboard ship in March 1974. Really looking forward to a special time.

      How special! Maybe you will encounter honeymooners while you're aboard! We honeymooned on her in 1984, and met a couple celebrating their 50th. Added something special to our stay. Happy Golden Anniversary!

    Of course there are no USB outlets. It's a retired ocean liner that was launched in 1934! I don't even like seeing TVs in the cabins. I'm looking forward to seeing her in April, she's my favorite ship. I'll be staying aboard her as well.

      @Rickyrab 9 місяців тому +1

      Yeah, but this is a British ocean liner that got retrofitted with American outlets. (My only gripe is that the outlets were all on one side of our cabin.)

      We didn't really use the TV in our cabin.

    I am so glad that you posted this update. I will be staying there in October. She looks like a lovely ocean liner that just needs lot of tender loving care and to be utilized for more events and hotel stays.

    Sad that the lifeboats are gone... I did leave my footprint in a teak board the last time I was there - staff had to help me - the deterioration of the desk has taken it's toll under my weight.

    Thanks for taking the time to show the photo gallery. I've toured the ship twice and didn't have the patience to stop and read them all. Being old, I recognized most of them anyway!

    Thank you for the memories. I stayed in her hotel February 2019, which gave me the idea for my bucket list crossing on the QM2 last month. I'm glad that they saved and renovated her.❤

    There were many changes added to this beautiful Ocean Liner..
    The Queen Mary is the second biggest ocean liner in the world and QM2 is the largest Ocean Liner in the world.

    Last night 1/13/24 my wife treated me to a night on the ship for my birthday and we were unpleasantly supersized that our deluxe harbor view state room looked nothing like the pictures on their website. It looked more like the standard room with wallpaper and not wooden panel walls. My birthday diner at Chelsea Chowder House was not worth the $130. I had the clam chowder which I give a 2 out of 5, a half dozen roasted oysters that were not good at all and a wedge salad that was good. My wife has the blackened salmon and mash potatoes that were good as well. The waiter was very nice but forgot things even that it was a birthday diner that was noted on the reservation...that OK we still tipped him well. This morning that meet with having to cancel the 90+ per person brunch due to not being able to take a shower due to no hot nor warm water, just very cold. We usually don't complain, we just don't return, but I want others to know what we experienced. My wife politely brought this to the front desk's attention, and they said that we need to contact Expedia and that the hotel ship will honor a partial refund. We see what happens.

      I stayed aboard the Queen Mary at about the same time you did. We also had a deluxe harbor view stateroom, but ours had wooden walls .... The showers and bath had hot and cold water, and we managed to get to the superb brunch on Sunday. We didn't get to use the chowder house because of the need for reservations, so we headed "next door" to the Promenade Cafe which also served clam chowder (which was rather good).

      We booked our room directly with the hotel. Our room was a tad chilly... I note that the room is equipped with historic climate control/heating that might no longer be working... I also note that the ship is better heated in some parts than in others.

    This was iikely a second class cabin. First class cabins were fully paneled in highly varnished wood veneer.

    They're still pushing that Haunted tour. I used to go see this ship every weekend in the 70s, knew many of the employees aboard, been in every nook and cranny of this ship, several times, never have I had a haunted encounter once. This haunted stuff didn't surface till the late 80s and 90s. But I'm sure it brings them alot of money.

    • @Rickyrab

      I believe in at least some of the hauntings, but my interest in the QM is that she's a legendary ship.

  • @gridley
    @gridley Рік тому

    I didn't realize the 1970s movie The Poseidon Adventure was inspired by the QM in the 1940s actually almost capsizing. I thought a rogue wave was more fiction than reality. Derp. I wonder if images shown on the QM1 of celebrities aboard the QM2, built in the early 2000s, were encouraged by Cunard? Regardless, it gives some publicity to their business. Easy to forget that in the long stretch of time, it wasn't too long ago when travel between the US to Europe was totally dependent on ships, not planes. Jet travel was originally treated like riding in a limousine. Nowadays it's more reminiscent of being in a bus. lol.
    The QM2 looks fancier than the QE2, built in the late 1960s & now a stationary hotel in Dubai. If the QE2 were in Long Beach instead of the QM1, its looks & history would be too much like something from era of The Love Boat. But the QM2, even though it's even farther from the early 1900s (& the Titanic), might make more sense if it too is eventually preserved. The QM lasted from around 1934 to 1967, a similar span for the QM2 would be from 2002 to 2035. Tour guides on the QM point out it has been in LB longer than it was sailing around.
