OMG, thanks! I live in NYC, but I’m not exactly a "pro" when it comes to getting to the airport. I was trying to figure out the cheapest and easiest way without dropping $140 on an Uber. The AirTrain had me totally confused. Good video!!
There is a cheaper way to get to jfk from Manhattan. Take the e tran to Union Turnpike and then get the free transfer to Q10 bus, which will take you to jfk. A bit longer but only 2.95.
Great video straight to the point. I last did this about 10 years ago. Wanted to clarify when coming in. You buy a 1.00 Metrocard. You fill it up with 8.50 for airtrain. Do you also fill up the same metrocard for the subway? I want to do the 7 days unlimited. So I fill up $42.50 on the same metrocard?
To clarify. It appears not all MetroCards support BOTH Airtrain and the UNLIMITED option. Unfortunately, I got one that only supported the "Add Value" option. If you go to refill and don't get the "Add Time" option you would be able to use the 7-day or 30-day unlimited function. It will deduct each ride separately. You will have to get a separate MetroCard to do that.
Yes airtrain is it's own seperate cost both ways it costs $8.25 right now.. you can use the same metrocard to "add value" to it so it will be unlimited but still also have $20 on it for the airtrain (then i usually give the $1 or whatever left to someone and pay it forward )
I have been travelling JFK to Manhattan this exact way. When I was walking towards Air Train in the airport, I saw a group of people in vests demanding passengers who were arriving from Manhattan to show their tickets.. is this a scam?
YES there are all kinds of scammers.. just keep walking and following traffic.. You will be able to spot the people who live in NYC because they'll have headphone and be in there own world ignoring everyone else around them. You should do the same. Tickets wise.. you do have to pay to enter and exit the Airtrain. So if you are coming from the airport you need to go to the Metrocard machine and pay OR you can now tap to pay but ONLY do this on the turnstyle machines themself. If anyone approaches you to help you pay for a Metrocard or tries to get you to tap to pay on a tablet etc it is a scam and they will switch your full Metrocard for an empty one or tap and steal your credit card info. Usually there are a lot of police force around so it will keep scammers away but they have been getting creative w vests and clipboards etc lately. So just beware. If anyone ever has any questions.. there is always a Metro Booth with a person you can talk to! If anything you can go there to purchase your tickets etc.

It used to be Queens bus going to JFK for regular fare, passing subway station. See bus map for number of the bus.

Going to Manhattan from JFk, do we need to pay for the airtrain if we already have just bought the metrocard ( unlimited one)? Thanks

You will also see New Yorkers avoid these kinds of people like the plague so just follow behind them and pretend you're a New Yorker too 😎
Thank you for the video and for the advice! I am flying back tonight and I'm so glad I came across your channel!
Can you just tap your credit card to get the JFK train to the plane?
Yes they have OMNY pay there as well 👍
Thank you
No prob! Hope it helped!
Hi. Does it work 24hrs?
Yes but times change and they come less frequently at night.. plus sometimes there's construction at night too.
