For another Jazz vibe song by Rolling Quartz, listen to Red Wine. JaYoung, the vocalist, has composed the original music that the group has produced. This is one of Rolling Quartz best cover.
Rock in South Korea has had a somewhat more complex history than most countries. The 2nd dictatorship under Park Chung Hee allowed rock but heavily censored it - all albums had to be vetted by government censors starting in the 70s and could not be released without their approval. Sanulrim which began in that era consisted of three brothers (guitar, drum and bass) who started the band when they were all in college in 1974 (this MV was made for the 50th anniversary), and had their first album in 1977. Kim Chang Hoon who appears in this MV played the bass, but his brother Kim Chang Wan (guitar and vocals) is far more famous having had a successful career as a character actor since the band stopped its major active period in 1984. If you watch kdramas, you've almost certainly seen him. The succession of dictatorships ended and democracy was established in 1987, and rock became far less restricted in the subsequent couple of decades. In fact, the guy credited with starting kpop as a genre, Seo Taiji, largely made straight ahead rock-and-roll albums after kicking off kpop with his project Seo Taiji And The Boys in 1992. Thus, Korea in the 90s had a healthy rock scene with popular bands and artists. Until 2005, that is. On a live broadcast on an MBC show, two male fans of the punk band Rux stripped naked. Rock became anathema to kpop for over a decade thereafter directly because of that scandal. There was still a club scene, but rock was not popular in general. Now, since about 2017 some kpop groups have been able to explore rock again which you have encountered in your reactions to Dreamcatcher presumably among others.
The guy sitting in the middle of the recording studio is Kim Chang Hoon, who wrote the song, one of the members of the rock band Sanullim. He asked Rolling Quartz to participate in the Sanullim 50th Anniversary Remake Project. His words: “Rolling Quartz made up for the regrets of the original” “ Five star performance”. In my opinion Ja Young’s scat singing is better than a lot of professional jazz singers’…
I add to this comment, Kim Chang Hoon said this version of "Reminiscence" should be Rolling Quartz own for when they make their 50th Anniversary album.
Managers in kpop or krock world, always stay behind the scenes and they are just employees to support artists. Only CEOs such as YG, JYP or general producers sometimes be in front of cameras. Actually there are many rock bands(Day6, DIH, Kim Jongseo, etc) in korea but with only 50 mil population of korea, they are not successful commercially. And kpop is not the biggest genre in korea, korean trot which is especially popular for old generations is the most popular genre in korea. However, trot can't even be compared to kpop globally. Some kpop groups sing rock songs. I recommend Billlie's Ring My Bell.

WOW ❤
Rolling Quartz is a magnificent band. Amazing original songs as well as really good covers.
Just one addition: Ja Young is a vocal coach
