They should really build that Missing Link railway, so that we can have a Midtown GO Line running inbetween Eglinton and Bloor. People have been saying it will pass through anc connect Kipling, Dupont, Summerhill, Sunnybrook Park, Agincourt stations. That tunnel is barely gonna fix 401 without any actual alternatives to driving and this is it, way cheaper to do so than tunneling. Subways are expensive because of tunneling process and they’re smaller than car tunnels for not much needed for ventilation, height and width dimensions of trucks, buses, etc
The Midtown line would be very tricky because of Canadian Pacific's Agincourt Yard which they need access to it would make more sense to just build Additional GO tracks on the existing Corridors and Extend the Sheppard line
@@IndustrialParrot2816I'd probably also add reviving the bolton GO line proposal too, as the 427 is the only 400 series hwy within the borders of Toronto not relieved in some way by the GO trains.
I appreciate them taking up this initiative, but I would point out that we were close to doing this very thing just before the start of the Ford administration, but then the Ford administration backed off. The idea the Liberals put forth back in 2018 was a literal rebrand and update of the same idea the PC's presented under Bill Davis in the early 1980's, which David Peterson killed in the mid-80's.
Not quite that long, this will probably be finished by about 2035 or 2040 given the rate of Inflation and the time it takes to complete a Worst Case Scenario project like Eglinton
It's because of all the Private Contractors who are highly incompetent because they mess up the Tunnels and don't properly Waterproof things leading to disasters like the Eglinton Crosstown (which could have been avoided if they stuck to original Cut and Cover Subway plan or if they had taken a page out of Vancouver's book and Elevated the line)
This is awesome just make a mid town GO line that runs parallel to the highway id say make it an elevated track rather than a tunnel cuz that would be SUPER expensive 😬 🙏 And expand go train east all the way to Kingston n Ottawa.. bowmanville could be a transfer to union line
I don't understand what exactly they are proposing and honestly, it sounds more expensive and impractical than building tracks for GO where needed. The only spots that need seperate tracks are between Burlington and West Harbour and Bramalea to Georgetown. Richmond Hill does too but consider it isn't planned for major expansion, it is unnecessary. Everywhere else is GO/Metrolinx owned and GO trains have priority anyway. CN and CPKC will not agree to any of these impractical "solutions".
The main thing is they need to build Flyover Junctions at Kipling, Georgetown, and Aldershot so the lines can cross eachother and not have to Interact with the Slow Lumbering Freight Trains, infact they already built two at the Davenport Diamond near Bloor-Landsdown and Another in Pickering
@@IndustrialParrot2816they just finished the paperwork to expropriate land east of georgetown to do this, so let's hope it happens soon. They also have tons of space to expand the milton line from Milton to Kipling, but I guess they're dead set to have all trains end or start at union, even though they have the campa sub to ferry trains to/from kipling.
Credit where credit is due, this is a much better use of transportation dollars- to expand our regional rail instead of endlessly adding expensive and way less efficient highway capacity. $ for $ regional rail is best solution to congestion.
The problem is, Ford is also spending tax dollars on inefficient highway capacity. Remember Bill 212? Yeah, that bill makes it easier to build new highways. Go figure.
@ChromatiXWasTaken yes, it's true. He's definitely trying the "shotgun approach" to transportation planning. I wish all of that highway money would be put to speeding up transit projects.
@@deanorr5378 Oh definitely, but Ford isn’t gonna do it. Even with him overseeing some major transit projects (many of which have been overdue for a while) he’s still very much someone who sees the car as the superior form of transportation and then probably believes everything else is built for those who can’f afford a car ig. Not sure if that’s accurate, but it’s the way I see it. Ford could’ve proposed more proper transit lines for the TTC instead of proposing building a new highway tunnel under the 401. @ChromatiXWasTaken there was a really interesting quote from him somewhere, and I wish I had saved it, about how important transit was. Like he really got transit. But then he goes and focuses so much on car stuff, which is inherently not economically wise, nor consistent with how he was quoted.
@ If Ford did say something like that, that would’ve been pretty cool. Unfortunately he definitely doesn’t hold up on it anymore though.
