- Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has dissolved his six-member war cabinet, just over a week after the departure of centrist opposition leader Benny Gantz and his ally Gadi Eisenkot.
Sensitive issues about the war with Hamas in Gaza will now be discussed by a smaller forum, Israeli media has reported.
Mr Netanyahu had faced demands from far-right ministers in his governing coalition to join the war cabinet, which could have further strained ties with the US and other international allies.
A spokesman for the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said that as far as it was concerned, it would not affect the chain of command.

They do. Under Israel's international law, Gaza and the West Bank are designated "disputed territories", not "occupied territories", so they don't apply the Geneva Convention. This is what people don't get, "international law" doesn't mean "global law", there's no such thing as that. Every country has laws that pertains to its behaviour towards other nations, many of these laws are held in common via treaties with other nations, but not always. So, one countries international laws aren't going to be the same as another country's. It shouldn't surprise anybody that Israel hasn't ratified any laws that would limit its capacity to inflict violence onto the people it intends to displace. Under British International Law, Gaza isn't "occupied territory" either, as occupied territory is when one state asserts its authority over some or all of the territory of another state... which is why our government refuses to recognise the existence of the Palestinian state... there can be no obligations in law towards an entity that you do not recognise the existence of in law.

No I think it does... I think everybody else assumes it means something that it doesn't, like, it's some kind of global law, which it isn't. Every country has its own international laws, so Israel's International Law isn't the same as Britain's International Law. Same goes for other types of laws, like Copyright Law, Contract Law, Property Law, Criminal Law... International Law is the same as this... different in every county.

Gantz & Eisenkot shouldn't have resigned from the Israeli war cabinet. The best way to affect day-to-day policy is to be on the spot & available to make one's voice heard. It's of little use to be on the outside looking in. Still, dissolving the cabinet is preferable to allowing ben Gvir a seat on it. He's about as radical an extremist as Hamas.
