Very very good video 👍. Very informative, you showed how easy it was to install and as I'm not so the handy type, you showed myself how easy it was. Thank you very much, fantastic video 😊
Thanks for posting this video. Knowing little about secondary batteries, I was a bit overwhelmed. This made the whole process easy to understand. Greetings from Texas!
Not going to work in the US. That’s where we keep our freedom AR-15, mounted behind the seat. Lol. No, but seriously, I really like this setup. Thanks.
G'day! I've just bought the same kickass set up and have the same MR Triton. I can not figure out exactly where the battery cracked sits as there's no factory holes that line up like you've said. Arw you able to supply some more detail around exactly how and where you bolted the tray in. Appreciate the feedback.
Thanks mate! I should have filmed it, but I ended up running the cable across the top of the engine bay and cable tied it out the way, then through the grommet in the firewall and into the cab! Then underneath the carpet to pop out behind the rear seat. Was an easy job with minimal tools required, but some people may choose to run it differently than I did
this has me changing my mind on what system i am going to install in the bed of my Tundra I like and prefer the slim design. I am currently installing a dual battery in the engine bay and want to run a wire from that aux battery to the back to this slimline which will save space
Glad to hear! The slimline design was a huge selling point for me as I don’t have much space to put an aux battery in the engine bay, so behind the seat was a perfect spot and out of the way!
Behind the passenger side rear seat, there’s a small grommet you can run wires through and then into the tub. The charger from Kickass works great for the triton, but if you’re uncertain on what charger would be best, I’d recommend getting in touch with them and they’ll be happy to help you out!
So just wondering, would this charge better if sola is hooked up or would sola charge better on its own with an MPPT regulator box to the battery? As i got an Regulator to the battery then a MPPT regulator and sola keeping my batter charged when I'm stationed.
Hey Mate, have just bought the exact same kit, but unable to close the rear seat with the battery installed in the battery tray. I have a Triton MQ 2018
Hey mate! I had to extend the seat latch just a tad with some longer bolts and a coupling! Feel free to reach out on Instagram and I’ll send you a photo of what I mean! Otherwise I’ll make a short video soon explaining it all 🤙🏻
Hi mate, thanks for posting this vid. Am about to undertake this same task on my Triton. Have been using my Thumper Redback battery pack for a few years but decided to go to a more integrated set up. The kickass behind seat 170AH still looks the go, trying to stay clear of lithium for now. How did you find the performance of this system in the long term?
Great question! As the slimline battery is a fully sealed agm battery, there is not need for ventilation and the battery does not heat up provided you’re not using excessive charge current (the kickass battery charger will make sure of this). Also, depending on your vehicle, the cab will have vents behind the rear seat as an added bonus! Though it’s not required for this kind of battery, ventilation certainly wouldn’t hurt by any means! Hope this helps mate!
Hi mate, you mentioned that your triton has no smart alternator. What year model is your triton? Reason for asking is I have a 2022 Triton and was thinking of using a vsr first. Will this work? Awesome video btw. I will use this when I set up a dcdc charger in the future. Cheers!
Hey Jeff, thanks for the kind words mate! A VSR will work as long as your start battery and aux battery are pretty close together, anything more than a meter or two of cable and the voltage will drop too much for the aux to have a decent charge. So if you’re doing an under bonnet install then a car would be perfect for it! But if you’re planning on a backseat install then I’d personally opt for a DCDC charger. That way you kinda ‘future proof’ it by allowing solar input and also with the kickass charger, and upgrade to lithium down the track!
Hi Tom are you able to advise how you secured the tray please? Im looking at mine and the best solution I can see is the firtree holes and possibly using the seatbelt bolt although Im not sure if the battery would fit properly. (It hasn't arrived yet) There are three possible spot's on the floor too but look too small to be used. Would really appreciate any help you can give please mate.
Hey mate, you’ll notice the tray has some pre drilled holes which are counter sunk, which you can use if you’d like. I personally drilled an extra hole just for that peace of mind that the tray isn’t going anywhere! I used nutserts to secure the tray and then got underneath the car and put a dab of marine grade silicone where the nutserts come through. Probably not necessary but just wanted to cover all possibilities of things going wrong 😂
@@forevertheweekend oh ok, yeah I was not keen on drilling through the tub. I've decided to test out 3 x tie down straps (the same as the ones to secure the battery in the tray) Two located either side of the tray using the iso fix points and running them under the the metal tabs on the floor and fastening it in front and one around the rear through the two iso points and around the the tray fastened infront also. It doesn't want to go anywhere as yet but I'll take it for a drive once the battery arrives. If its no good I'll try your way.👍
@@Hardtailcartel with it sitting behind the seat as well it’s unlikely to go anywhere anyway! But good idea taking it for a test drive just to make sure everything is secure!
Hey mate! I sit the fridge on the back seat and have an Anderson plug to connect it! Also run the solar connection running to the tub with a waterproof cover on the end for when I’m not running the solar panel 🤙🏻 I’m contemplating ripping the backseats out completely and having a control box mounted to the back wall for all my devices!
Thanks mate! There wasn’t a need to install an isolator as the charger has this function built in, that it’s not going to draw anything unless there is sufficient charge current going to the main battery. I suppose an isolator could be handy if you ever did want to just disconnect the aux battery from the system for whatever reason while the car was running?
Great video mate, thank you! I've also got a Triton, and am about to start a very similar dual battery setup to yours. Have you had any issues with the ignition wire and fuse tap? I checked all the fuses for power, including the heated seat one, and found they have power still after the key is taken out of the ignition. I'm wondering if the DC-DC is reverting back to old school, and only allowing charge of the second battery based off the voltage from the starter battery, not the signal from the ignition wire. How is it all 1 year on? Anything you'd change if you did it again? Thank you!!
Absolutely ripper question mate!! I’m loving it still after 1 year on! There’s definitely a few things I’d do differently for sure, but that kinda comes with any mod you do to your car I feel 😂 If you’d like me to make a video (if that would be useful?) on how it’s all going 1 year on, let me know and I’ll see what I can do! 🤙🏻🤙🏻

Hi mate, are you able to shut the rear seat easily with the larger battery in there? Or did you have to modify anything to ensure it shuts properly? I have read that the armrest may stick out.
Hey mate, yeah I did have to extend the seat latch about 20mm for it to close properly again! Just used a longer bolt and put a coupler on there and it worked well for me! Armrest still pokes out very slightly so I’m thinking if I made it 25mm it would fix that entirely!
