There is no other knife review/bushcraft channel like yours. Your videos are always the most fun, most interesting, most entertaining, most info packed, most natural well paired friends doing what they love. I can't say enough good stuff about your videos.
I just have to say - you guys are some of the most entertaining folks that make me laugh out loud, in spite of myself, repeatedly. The energy and humor and the obvious intelligence and fun and camaraderie all shine through. I also happen to love knives and the woods and mountains, the military aspects and all the stuff discussed and hinted at here. I could have picked any video from your site to post this on - I was laughing out loud at this one in particular and felt the urge to give some encouragement before I watched another video without posting.
So glad I found your channel, it's a nightmare choosing a good outdoor knife now thanks to your efforts the final choice will be easier. When your going to spend a few hundred pounds on a knife it's good to have someone else's extensive trialling and evaluation to help.

Never spend a few hundred on a knife. I am a collector, a bushcraft lover, and overall blade enthusiast. Never ever spend that on a knife, unkess its for a wall, because that is where it will end up. A 40 to 60 dollar range will give you more then you need. Every knife above that range is giving you the same or less usability, and tends to have things about it that can be broken or damaged to a much higher degree. A good mora or my second favorite idms martinni knives. Please buy according to need not price or anything else. Get a great sheath , and maybe a sharpener, make a package , don't dump it on a blade , knife company's have gotten out of control with prices, no knife is worth that , unkess your collecting and trading them.

I love my South Pole and it is also an outstanding fighting knife as well. As a U.S. Marine a knife’s ability to be used in a fight is always important.

Batoning, doesn't affect the edge of the knife. When you baton a piece of wood like that, it's the sides of the blade, that do the work, not the edge.
I have several TRC knives….. but like the complete “Jack of all trades” saying, when I head into the bush…. The Apocolypes is too big. The I Love Freedom is too thin. The Classic Freedom is too small. M390 is a pain to field sharpen.
The Pole just does it all.
My South Pole just gutted another elk and a moose this year. As well as all camping tasks….. if I was to pick 1 knife it would be the South Pole.
Also you guys didn’t mention you can get a Kydex and/or a leather sheath. I prefer the leather. Sits higher on the waist and carry’s better. None of my Falknivens come close.
Does it have the quality click sound when you put inside/pull out the leather sheath like the kydex sheath?

The "This is Freedom" is not too thin, it's exactly as thick as such a knife should be, if not a bit thicker than it should. Also M390, is only a pain to sharpen, if someone doesn't know how to properly sharpen a knife. Sharpening is all about experience and a bit of knowledge. Your comment, is more what other UA-camrs with little to no experience at all, usually say on their videos, and not your own, real experience. Also, if anybody wants to own a 400$ knife, he should at least, has his own experience, on such expensive gear, enough to be able to use and maintain them. If he doesn't, then I don't see thereason, to judge a knife.Maybe such people, should just collect knives, and judge them only by their looks.

This is gonna be a weird question, what pan are you using over the fire?
It’s amazing…I watched Joe x F up a Falkniven A1x with cos in a minute and the cold steel 4max scout , a folder no less ,with Aus10a steel ,totally house and out do the Falkniven. The 4max cost $75 and the Falkniven cost between $230 to $250.
It is clear that Mickey is very skilled at pounding meat into submission. He has obviously had a LOT of practice.
Master of none is a good nickname for it. It can compliment chopper knives. Or even be a main knife or a secondary. I am also grateful that you guys are still giving credit to other steels even though Magnacut is the newest focus. I don't want people to think that they have to get rid of their other knives just so they could get the best most expensive out there from what I have read from the comments which is not right. I like to appreciate other good steels and also marvel at the newest best steels as well.

Watching this with Condor Compact Krphart, Wayfinder ( and I was Camping with Joe Flowers at the 2021 TOPS Knives employee camping trip) and TRC Classic Freedom and Opinel Inox #8. Just hanging out in the garage with a three day weekend! I'm trying to watch videos on Classic Freedom. I bought Classic Freedom and Apocalypse from Kapunga after Maarten recommended. I still would like Speed Demon and Millie Courie. TRC knives can be used and as outdoor knives, but they look extra luxury and quality so don't seem to be intended for camping until you start cutting with them and you realize they are excellent knives! I'm glad you have filmed about TRC knives!
I have this knife since a few months and I am very happy with it. Yes, the V edge is not the best for some tasks, but the overall knife is very good and practiable.

I'd like to see you do an old school review on a Kephart style knife. You've got several modern options from LT Wright, Bark River, and even the Ka-Bar BK62. I'd love to see how such an iconic and classic design holds up today.
Carothers Performance Knives makes a Kephart in CPM 3V with their special heat treat. It would be interesting to see how this steel performs. DBK test, Carothers knife…win-win!!

Hello DBK,
I bought the Modestas Skirmantas Infinity. This is very identical to the TRC South Pole.
However, you can do much better scrape a fire steel with the Infinity.
With a convex grind it is the perfect allround Knive for me.
Skirmantas Knives are really amazing, love their design!

I would be very curious to know how you guys quantify that TRC's heat treatment is better than Bark River's. I have never had a Bark River that underperformed for steel.

I wondered this too and I think in some other vids they mentioned that they had some elmax BRK blades and some of them chipped doing the same tasks that others in elmax didn't so in their opinion BRK is inconsistent sometimes when it comes to heat treat.
From my research ontop I haven't seen any complaining of poor grinds or chipping from trc but seen a few reports on BRK (although i own 3 BRK and have no complaint either).
