- There have been several made-up stories about Sadhguru’s wife death Vijaykumari, fondly known as Vijji. Death isn't an appropriate word to use. In yoga, it's popularly known as "Mahasamadhi". In this video, Sadhguru explains "How Vijji attained Mahasamadhi?" and clarifies the controversy with CNBC about her death.

I am someone who has been following Sadhguru for a considerable period of time, I feel his truths are leading my life in the right direction, but since I came to know about the death of his wife him, my trust in him was severely shaken, and all the things I had received from him before were no longer absolute, nor could I agree with the saying: you borrowed borrow this body and the time will come when you return it, that's true, but the way she did according to what he said, to me is against the laws of nature, isn't all life on this planet equal? wish to live or anything, except humans. Makes me think that's just a romantic way of saying suicide.
But I still really want to aim for and understand what he's saying is the ability to see things the way they are

It is easy to make stories and assumptions. You can see many live videos of Buddhist monks leaving their body . It was common in this culture for someone who has attained certain mastery over the body and mind.
Exactly only monks who have have meditated all their lives have done this. A housewife cant do this. In samadhi a body is not cermated but buried and that site is prayed on. His father inlaw wanted to do postmoterm. But he cremated his wife before her father arrived, why a father ws not allowed to see the body of his daughter. Tmrw any husband will say my wife died took samadhi and cremate body wthoout her family.

Actually, you are all wrong about this. She did not die. She just went to the spiritual world. She still has the spiritual body and spiritual soul and helps Sadhguru and her daughter from the Spiritual Realm. Nobody dies, we live forever. Dying is just a crossing. When we were born we died for the womb and the environment was water there, and we were born into the Physical World where the environment is air, when we die, we leave the Physical World and be born in the Spiritual World where the environment is not air or water but love, true love. If you experienced true love on earth, you will be free and easy in the Spiritual Realm as well. Vijji was most loved when she crossed the line so she is very happy now.

It's not suicide in the same sense you are speaking of.
Basically speaking: The claim is that with enough will power and belief that an individual can "will" themselves to sickness and another can "will" themselves to better health. And some believe they can also "will" themselves to a physical death...Departing/Separating their soul from their body when they wish to move on.
In the sense of suicide you are stating in your comment...Suicide is assisted by some physical means (drugs, weapons, drowning, jumping, electrocution...ect).

I like sadguru, but some of these gurus love putting a twist on words to make things seem like something more complex than what it is. When someone makes a CONSCIOUS decision to no longer be alive, living and breathing in the physical flesh.. that’s literally what we define as suicide. There is no other way to spin that. Just strange she decided to “exit her body” knowing she would be leaving behind a 7 year old daughter who was not capable of taking care of herself.

But in the context of what's being said, did she suicide to end her life in the same sense that a person jumping off a bridge into water is? Definitely it is not the same. At least, in the yogic explanation of what is Mahasamadhi. Mahasamadhi is a very intense exiting of energy that bursts from the peak, often leaving from out the top of your head. Very intense sadhana is required to build up and reach to that point of energy... so it is said in the yogic lore. Now when people ask "Was it suicide?"... Well that doesn't exactly pinpoint what is means to attain Mahasamadhi. It is the ultimate attainment of Yoga, and it is done without any misery or shame.
Mahasamadhi is in every way a complete obliteration of yourself, but to the average person's perception, I do not think consciously dieing like that would at all be simply sufficed by the word "suicide". Do you think so?

As the story goes, in her travels with Sadhguru, she visited a yogi that had asked Sadhguru how to leave his body, to die a yogi, instead of a rogi(old man). Sadhguru went through the process with him, on how to prepare himself and attain to mahasamadhi, and when the day had come, Vijji saw it. She was drawn by the whole process, and decided that she wanted to leave like that also. Sadhguru did not want it. He asked why, brushed it off, tried to distract her, everything. But she was persistent, eventually Sadhguru told her a process thinking no way she would be able to maintain the commitment to the sadhana.
She did. And she also decided to leave at a time when she felt everything was going right in her life, when she was feeling her best. People said she said this. So Vijji was not depressed. And likewise, you cannot be depressed and attain mahasamadhi. They are opposites. One is lack of intensity, and the other a maximum point of intensity.
So....This is the story, and the account of Isha foundation. I'll leave the rest to you. I will say, from what I see in most people- if science had not YET said that air is present, most people would believe breathing did not exist either.

I am completely late with my comment. However, it is nobody's right to judge or accuse Sadguru of his wife's leaving her body! It is personal and yet he agreed to interviews when he did not have to. Don't judge what you don't understand or what you feel is not according to your beliefs. He accepted what his wife wanted and no one can know how he felt in that moment. He honored what she wanted. Well her father filed an FIR agisnt him for murder , her body was cremated before an autopsy could be done. Her father did not want her to clbe creamted as this could distroy evidence . But sadguru did it anyway they very next day before sun rise .
