      exactly. who the hell cares. i wish we could just all go back to using autocad 14. all this 3d nonesense and revit hasn't solved anything. in fact it has simply made doing drawings harder. it doesn't make it easier to fit MEP stuff above a ceiling on old buildings with 12' floor to floor heights and 33" deep beams. REVIT will not solve that problem for you. neither will anything auto cad is selling. to hell with it all we should just go back to hand drafting. honestly it would take less time. on top of that all of these changes to the interface just make it that much more difficult for me to use. oh thanks for changing text commands again. I used to type ZE for zoom extents. now ZE is Zebra.... what the hell is zebra and what the hell does it have to do with my chiller plant.

      @@psilocybemusashi I do land development. Land Desktop Development was hands down, the MOST efficient and user friendly software I had ever used. It took two weeks to set up and a few months to learn. I had to shut my one man shop down completely from 2015 - 2018 to build templates and content and custom this and that because OOB stuff didn't do what I needed it to. Over 11,000 hours worth of invested time + around $50,000 in re-seller training and of-course, the $12,500 buy in which was swapped with "you can't own your own stuff any more. So, you must switch to a subscription. We'll give you a couple dollars off though for your patronage." If there was another alternative to C3D, there would be a techtonic shift from all the people who would abandon the platform just out of spite.

      @@psilocybemusashi Hot damn. You sure are one short-sighted, narrow-minded asshole. LMAO. Design your own software if you want it fully catered to just yourself. Autodesk's job isn't to make AutoCAD "woodstock" approved. It'd also appear you don't know much about the software anyways, because text commands are extremely simple to change. I suggest some schooling.

The only thing that cad 2007 missing is annotate, but people developed a technique for dim in model space since 2007 so no need for that.

      The 2020 release remains a predominantly single-core application, but Autodesk continues its AutoCAD Fabric project with this release. Central to the fabric project is Autodesk improving the foundation AutoCAD code so they can use it for the web and mobile versions of AutoCAD. Even if you have no interest in the web and mobile versions today, the process of preparing the code for those secondary platforms means the performance of the functions released on those platforms improves in the core desktop project.

      Revit is, of course, the primary tool we recommend to those designing and constructing buildings, but there are some design functions it doesn't support especially well. For example, the primary tool for the civil engineering and survey industries is Civil 3D; which is built upon AutoCAD. Similarly, while an increasing number of building owners are moving to BIM and consequently Revit, the operations and maintenance of existing buildings is still predominantly accomplished in some way with AutoCAD.
      Like most things, it's about choosing the right tool for the job. Thanks for your comment! :)

    Great Video.
    Regarding Block Palette:
    Can you specify the Block Insertion Layer?
    Is there any SYSVAR or other path customization that can be accessed via LISP for the Block palettes locations? Perhaps in the Files tab of Options?

    • @CADDMicrosystems
      @CADDMicrosystems  5 років тому +1

      While it does provide a couple new options, the Block Palette functions just like the Insert command. Thus, your current layer is what's used when placing the block. If you need to place blocks on a specific layer, we typically recommend creating/using Tool Palettes.

    • @thecadgeek
      @thecadgeek 5 років тому +1

      I see the new Block Palette more as a replacement for/enhancement of the Insert dialog box than Design Center. In that way, I see the two serving different portions. Regarding the Explode upon insert. That's a setting carried over from the Insert dialog box. In fact, it's a setting I use somewhat often when using (nested) assembly blocks that display Field values from a point object within Block Attributes.

    0:16 New GUI colours? Don't care. NEXT
    0:48 Gradients on ribbons? Don't care - RIBBONCLOSE is in my acad.lsp. Seriously - who uses the ribbon? Nobody productive. NEXT
    1:09 "What about core functionality..." Here we go!
    1:29 New Blocks pallette? Nobody uses pallettes except the disorganised. NEXT
    2:00 We're still talking about the blocks pallette?
    2:23 Repeat placement? I'd just mirror the chairs from the other side of the table or INSERT > COPY (or ARRAY if evenly spaced). Or just ENTER twice. Another Autodesk 'solution' in search a problem.

    NEXT!
    3:02 New MEASURE command. I already know the measurements of my drawings - I drew them. If someone else drew them, what does it matter what their numerical measurements are? If the space is the wrong size for the purpose (I do mechanical) then make it so it's not. NEXT
    4:02 I've never used the drawing compare. What are its limits? Does it highlight changes made to blocks internally? Does it highlight based on just object handle i.e. will a line that replaces another line but was of the exact same length etc. be highlighted as a 'change' which can happen easily, like if you trim the middle of a line then later join the two ends again? I'd rather just XREF > OVERLAY and fade the drawing to compare and look for the differences than be lead down the garden path.
    5:19 Let's not conflate OCD with clean though...
    6:21 There is literally no point to this 'feature'. If a block is in use, why would you need to find and purge it? Sure, you can get nested invisible blocks (The three AME carry overs from pre- R13 times - I still see them on occasion but just redefine them as empty - sorted). I've been using AutoCAD long enough to remember having to purge one item at a time... NEXT
    8:00 When the speed of a program installing is a 'feature' you know you're in trouble. How often are you installing it for a 3 minute time saving to actually matter? NEXT
    8:23 Wow it saves half a second faster. Well, why didn't you say so sooner! Shut up and take my money, Autodesk! Yeah, right. Personally, I have ISAVEPERCENT set to 99 and I never even notice file save times and rarely manually save anyway unless it precedes a function that commonly crashes AutoCAD. If I'm emailing a file I'll just do a FULLSAVE, a function I've defined that turns ISAVEPERCENT to 0 then saves and sets ISAVEPERCENT back to 99.
    Summary: Nothing here worth a pinch of the proverbial.
