Fleetwood Mac's Rumors is an amazing album. It took 2 years and a GIANT pile of cocaine (seriously... they had their dealer on speed dial and he would deliver to the studio) to create the Rumors album. Fleetwood Mac at the time consisted of two sets of couples and Mick Fleetwood, one couple had recently divorced, the other couple were on again/off again and fought often and Mick had just discovered his wife at home had had an affair with his best friend. They then did some partner swapping that created even more hard feelings (I'm sure the cocaine was very helpful). The album is alternately full of scathing "f*ck off" songs and optimistic "love is great " songs. At times, the artists refused to be in the same room with each other and recorded their tracks separately. The story of the creation of Rumors is insane. You should look it up sometime. What came out of the incredible mess is one of the best albums ever made. You will generally find it in just about everyone that matters top ten best albums of all time. It's a frickin' masterpiece. There is not a single bad song on it.
I knew a yacht owner /Capt. In OC. MD. That ferried them up the east coast to their summer tour stops for that album. Said they like to party. I partied on the same yacht with the owners son. Saw lots of pictures.Very cool.
In the 80s, everyone had that dealer on speed dial. It went to a beeper lol. No cell phones in those days...no texting lol. Generally, the dealer on any given weekend was at least one Close friend who had some to part out. Fleetwood mac was just using like almost everyone cool. All the stars of everything were coke heads. Ruined many a band too.
@@LandPhil210 Lindsey Buckingham is the lead guitar and the lead singer of this song and many of their others. To me, he is one of the greatest guitarists of all time. : )
You mentioned that you were struck by the vocal interplay between Stevie Nick's and the male vocalist. That was Lyndsey Buckingham, who also played lead guitar on the song. But here's the thing- Stevie and Lyndsey were a couple for several years, and they were going through a painful breakup at the very time they recorded that song. In fact, the song was about their breakup- the "Chain" was the romantic bond that had been broken.
They each wrote songs about the other and made each other sing them standing next to one another... Go your own Way was written by Lindsay, while Landslide was written by Stevie
It's off there album rumours. Which is one of the greatest albums of all time. They almost broke up during the making of it, but years later they actually did break up. Great reaction video as always.
Modern country is starting to sound like rock rather than the other way around but I can understand why you think in may sound like country. Fleetwood Mac have 3 vocalists. Stevie Nicks, Lindsay Buckingham (guitarist) and Christine McVie (Keyboards). John McVie is the bass player and Mick Fleetwood is on drums. (this is the most famous line-up for the band)
Yes, so much genius coming together to create these masterpiece songs. I love John McVie's baselines, especially in this song and Mick Fleetwood is an underrated drummer - he is fantastic. I love playing air drums in this song especially!
Known this song like a lover all my life. Music doesn't get much better. Written from the heart during a very difficult time in the author's life. Glad to see someone outside the circle appreciate it. Liked! Thanks for the share
I've been a FM fan since the 60s and saw them in tje early 70s. I was totally blown away by Mick Fleetwood's absolute powerhouse drumming, which never seemed to come across in their recordings. You should checkout some of their earlier stuff with Peter Green on guitar.
Fleetwood Mac originated in London U.K. in 1967. By the time the album rumours came out in 1977, there were musicians from the U.S.A in the line up. It’s hardly accurate to claim this track as solely U.S. influenced.
Darlin you just opened a can of worms you put back in the can. There's not mediocre track on this album. Lastly this album is 44 years old as of this year. Glad you took the time to listen to this track. You'll more than likely appreciate this album if you listened to it in its entirety. As one individual already stated. Buckingham is underrated. Keep it going young lady. 👍✌
This is good song Stevie Nicks wrote the lyrics about Lindsey Buckingham as their relationship was falling apart Buckingham & Nicks sing on the track so it a break up song
So many good songs on this album. My favourite one is “Dreams”. Now it’s time for more Iron Maiden and Skid Row! Take a listen to “22 Acacia Avenue “ or the studio version of Skid Row’s “In A Darkened Room”
This song is actually four songs in one. They pieced it together, that's why ALL the members of Fleetwood Mac have writing credit on it. It is very unusual to do a song this way, but they made it work... "Go Your Own Way" really showcases Lindsey Buckingham's guitar playing and singing.
The Nicks-Buckingham iteration of this band is the most well known, but I'd urge you to listen to the original line up. Peter Green laid the foundations for everything that came later. Check out Oh Well and The Green Manalishi from the Peter Green era. You won't be disappointed.
Try a group called Whiskey Myers. I would say their Music is somewhere between Blackfoot and Lynyrd Skynyrd. The name of their best album is Firewater. In my opinion their best songs on that album are: Bar, Guitar and a Honky Tonk Crod; Guitar Picker; and Broken window Serenade. I believe you like that Allman Bros. two songs I think you'd enjoy would be Woman Across The River from the album Hittin' The Note. Another good song by the Allman's is You Don't Love Me/Soul Serenade. Great song with a lot of extemporaneous Jamming. Classic Rock song. The Allmans transcend any particular genre.
The whole band was like a a love story and break up they wrote songs for each other that the other had to sing in The Miz all about the pain the other was making them feel it's really what I my opinion made the rumors album so strong and powerful
I love songs, particularly from the 60s & 70s, where the band decide to take a left turn at the lights and change the whole tone of the tune. Other examples are like "I Got The.." by Labi Siffre and "The Question" by The Moody Blues.
ua-cam.com/video/wgmRb3MlpHQ/v-deo.html Rhiannon"- one of the best of their early performances - Rhiannon" The ' name, , derives from a Proto-Celtic root which means "great queen,"
5:06 - "I was surprised by how it had like that country vibe to it... Is this like common?" - I find there's quite a bit of 70's era rock that has a heavy Southern Rock / Country sound to it. Bands like Molly Hatchet, Creedence Clearwater Revival, The Allman Brothers, even Boston and Led Zeppelin, have this certain southern sound that evokes a country feel. I've never thought of Fleetwood Mac as having it though. But I can definitely see where you're coming from.
The original Rumors version of this is nice, but I highly recommend the version from their live album, The Dance. It's got a bit of a stronger sound to it. I think because Buckingham contributes a bit more on vocals in that version. Honestly, the whole performance from The Dance is incredible. Best version of Tusk you will ever hear. Anyway, great to see you doing reactions again. Always look forward to them :). ua-cam.com/video/kBYHwH1Vb-c/v-deo.html
One of the greatest albums of all time...Some of the best music ever recorded.
How much bloody money did they make off this album?...Cheesus... it's mind boggling to think about.
@@ObiWanGinobiliTopFan They admit to doing a great deal of cocaine back in those days so i'm guessing the money went as fast as it came for a while.
@@rogerdaly6326 Probably. They also admitted to diving in deep to consumerism and buying excess cars, houses, boats, etc. Lol
