I've never thought of using a sheet of acetate in my spray box, good idea! I line the bottom of my spray box with a piece of mixed media or watercolor paper so that the overspray eventually gives me another background. I have one journal page that I made using the overspray sheet and it may be my favorite of all my makes. Thanks for all of the useful tips.
Thanks Gerry. Always full of fun tips. I use a pizza box for a spray box. It’s actually from craft deliveries, not pizza! Doesn’t take up much room and just flips open.
Wow Gerry. These tips are amazing. No have not yet tried the sprays cuz I was nervous of making a big mess. I especially appreciated the tip of cutting a box so that it can store away flat as my craft room is really quite small. Thanks so much you always have some great ideas for us all. 😊
Really like the box idea. I've gathered a few to decide which one would be best, but they're all pretty big. Now I know how to fold it flat for storage!
Love doing different things. I've gotten some sprays, but use CAREFULLY once so far and was fun. Thanks for the box tip, now I can go crazy and have slot of fun. Reminds me of tie dying effect. Thanks Geri. Happy crafting.
Great tips. Thank you for this video. I haven’t used my sprays because of some of the issues you mentioned. I will definitely try these tips. Thank you for sharing
These are fantastic tips, Gerry! Thank you for sharing. I'm always a bit hesitant to use sprays because they are always so messy and hard to control- but with these tips, I'll have to have another go! Thanks again!
Really helpful tips, TFS. Tim also recommends wiping the nozzle after use to avoid clogging. Paper soup: love it. I always thought that would be a problem with the (splat) boxes & the acetate eliminates waste. I like your DIY box, I find the size of Tim's splat boxes too confining.
I do wish they would find a way to make the bottles spray more smoothly. They're sometimes very difficult to control and the ink comes gushing out. So, any brilliant inventors out there, you crafty friends? You could make a fortune. 😉😘
sometimes the spray head is not good (a monday morning one as we say😉) and it can depend from brand to brand also. Yep there is some room for improvement spray development wise😁
I don't really use spray inks, so what I do instead is add a special medium made to be added to acrylic paint, then use that as a spray. I like your idea to make dots. I usually get bigger drops than I want, going to have to try your method.
thanks💖 that all depends on the paper, the m ore it can handle fluids the less curl, some papers soak up fluids and then there is no way you can get it back in it's flat state🙃But once dry I like to add them under the Make-Art Stay-tion (or something else heavy and flat) that will flatten them out if they still can😉
@@GerrysCraftRoom Our "community" is FULL of great ideas - will try my Big Shot - or good old-fashioned heavy books - or strong adhesive when I layer it. Thank you BOTH!!
I just got some Tim Holtz Distress Mica Stain Sprays and some Distress Spritz Sprays. I love the sparkle! How I noticed with the Mica Stains some sparkle (mica) comes off on my fingers after it is completely dry. I don’t want to send cards to people and then have them get stuff on their fingers. Do you know what is best to fix this problem? Thanks.
I only have one distress oxide spray, isvitvpossible to make your own sprays from oxides Gerry? I f so,do you just add water and a bit(?) of the oxide ink s? Thanks in advance, your vidoe will be useful when I get more sprays!xx
I believe not with the Oxides because of the way they are put together, the dye and pigment part🤔 But maybe you have other sprays that you can use with the techniques as well😉
I have so many different sprays with mica in,but i just cannot get the tube and nozzle unblocked & it drives me mad because they are not cheap and i cant use them x
So frustrating when that happens. You can try taking the pieces apart & cleaning them with some hot water & a sewing needle to poke in the tiny crevices. Not that it guarantees it will keep working. I’ve invested in some pipettes to get the spray out of some of my bottles, or use a paintbrush also. At least that way you can still use the product, even if the spray part doesn’t work.
How do we fix clogged spray nozzles? I have a lot of sprays but half is clogged (older ones)... But not all available ones to put a new one in, don't fit... Help
That's a big problem, especially sprays with shimmer tend to clog easily. You can try soaking the nozzle in warm water, sticking a needle in the little opening and cleaning the backend by taking of the little tube, that's about it. But if you have old sprays, try looking for cheap spray bottles and poor the product in those, then clean after using, that's the easiest solution😉
It's possible they clog, but I have never had them clog and because I am sharing my experiences I didn't address it, BUT if you have clogged sprays you can try this: ua-cam.com/video/QyjwKes9Lh8/v-deo.html

Great tips as always, Gerry. Any ideas how to keep the sprayed surfaces flat while they dry? Lots of curl here!!
thanks💖 that all depends on the paper, the m ore it can handle fluids the less curl, some papers soak up fluids and then there is no way you can get it back in it's flat state🙃But once dry I like to add them under the Make-Art Stay-tion (or something else heavy and flat) that will flatten them out if they still can😉
I've seen some videos where they run the warped paper either through a laminator or a die cutting machine like a Big Shot to flatten them out.

I have so many different sprays with mica in,but i just cannot get the tube and nozzle unblocked & it drives me mad because they are not cheap and i cant use them x
yep that's annoying, I have had brands that do that, drives you bonkers, I never had it happen with the dylusions though
