What a beautiful Saint! One of my friends in Heaven! Ave Maria!
His motto " Deus Solus", he was childlike, poor in spirit as Jesus said Blessed are those poor in spirit ".
He felt God, and probably had visions but , felt unworthy as all saints did.

Saints such as Benedict Joseph Labre remind us that holiness is for everyone as we discover ourselves to be, that there is no cookie cutter approach to the life of the Gospel, that God takes us as we are and that if we persevere in prayer, surrender and grace, the Lord will fashion us into the saint that he has called us to be.

Thank you dear Father for revealing the beautiful soul of St. Benedict Joseph. I too decided to do the research because my exterior life was beginning to resemble his and I was afraid that God was asking me to live a similar life... I found a great saint and holy patron instead. I read his biography by Ward & Sheed once a year because it renews & strengthens my faith.
May God give you the strenght to go further on!

I ordered a book in 1990's translated from French. Together with an appendix. ECCOPrint Editions.
My Spiritual Director recommended it to me
As my Saint to pray too. I never heard of him before that. This book by Giuseppe Loreto Marconi
The Appendix includes
Giving an account of
Several Miracles said to have been wrought
By his intercession soon after his death.
He died in the Odour of Sanctity on the 16th of April 1783.
There is alot of information in this fuul size book. It is a bit difficult to read because it is translated from French. So every time a "s"is used in a word an f is used instead. He was 65 yrs
When he died. There is a story of his death & what he did after he died or rather his body did. People ignored him alot while he lived.
Some because he was so dirty and smelled and had varmen . As soon as he died the children of that area
Yelled out in the streets "The Saint is. Dead, the. Saint is dead! " I am truly Blessed by this book and information by his parents and an uncle

Information he needed for his Christian and what he needed to know about matters of the Catholic Church &
Helpfull information he would use to inter a Monastery.

I suffer from mental illness as well, and also have an affinity with Latin. I was once banned from the cathedral for crying out right after the end of Vespers that people should be praying the Divine Liturgy in Latin.. I came back though! I got through to them about the vehemency of my belief about this!

Even at the extent of death as a corpse he experienced the path of denial and rejection to God. that is pure divinity.

Further, following your logic, if a man is paralyzed, and cannot heal himself by virtue of his faith, then he does not possess "heroic virtue." If a woman who is blind is not made to see, somehow a barrier is erected between her and God. St. Benedict Joseph Labre may not have been mentally ill, but to suggest that a mentally ill person cannot become a saint, unless they are cured, is a grave mistake born of ignorance. Implicit in your homily is this message - "You, who are mentally ill, are unworthy of God's full love, and cannot hope to aspire to the heroics of the saints, unless you first fully overcome your bipolar disorder, your schizophrenia, your post traumatic stress disorder, etc." The vermin and rags you reject, are the vermin and rags of the mind. Father, this is wrong.
Diary of St. Faustina 283 does not exclude the mentally ill or those suffering with such things.

I have read that one of the books our Saint carried was the "Sinner's Guide" by the Venerable Louis of Granada. I have a copy of "Saint Benedict Joseph Labre" by Agnes De La Gorce and also "The life of the venerable servant of God, Benedict Joseph Labre" by Antonio Maria Coltraro. I would recommend the Coltraro book, first.

@@gladyscompere9392 I use the old Calendar, Pre-1959, I am a Sedevacantist, I love these sermons by these good people, even if I disagree with them Theologically concerning the issue of the Pope and the Second Vatican Council. God Bless you, and as I said before, Happy Feast of Saint Isidore the Farmer! Also, since I live in the US, the feast is specifically on the 22 of March, since May 15 was Saint John Baptiste-da-LaSalle's Feast day. May 15 although is the traditional feast day everywhere else. Great Saint prey for us sinners. But thinking about Him I feel sorry He was not saved to prolong His life and work. He is in a way martyr witout being a real martyr. Because He was obidient any bishop of a given place He was present could ordered Him to receive help as a proper feeding and dressing, and a medical aid as an act of mercy or even make Him a deacon and then send Him back to streets where He wanted to be living a sort of apostolic life among unwanted and forgoten by everyone. Moreover I believe He could make solemn vows to such a biship to have a lawful superior. And surely He would do that simply because He was so obidient lIke CHrist usque ad mortem...
