Is Japanese Pokémon 151 still investable?

- With the price of Japanese Pokémon 151 booster boxes at an all time low, is it still a good investment play? Should you be investing now, wait or not at all. Should we be buying to open and collect now?
I’ve got 6 boxes for an average of $57 a box. I’ll be buying more at this rate so I can complete my set and hold sealed long term. If it doesn’t appreciate I’ll gladly open so it’s a win win for me

I think a good comparison is XY evolution. A nostalgia set from 2016 with a high print run, reprinted multiple times, last being 2019 and distributors couldn't sell the stuff. The top card you could hope to pull is $45 and yet 5 years later they are sittin at $830, 830% gains, outperforming the NASDAQ average. This is like when Poke Rev told Cool trainer Ryan to buy up as much of Evolutions for $100 a box and now we get a better set for $50 a box. Just a little capital and a little patience we will all make a killing on this product.
My highest paid was about $160-$170. I did just hop back in to start dollar cost averaging down. Plus it’s an amazing set.

It’s basically printed to demand. So it won’t be investable until people stop buying it.

That’s dope. Grab as many as you can. I’m trying to stack 50 plus boxes while they are low. Be easy to triple your money when they hit $150 again but I’m gonna hold for like 5 years
I was in Japan a week ago and was able to find boxes at ~$33.50 or ~$1.57/pack. It was 2 boxes per day but shrink wrap had to be removed at every Poke Center.
There is no popular set that isn't investable. This is in higher demand then Evolving Skies was at this point in it's cycle. And I can't imagine this is being printed more than evolving skies or eevee heroes.

I grabbed a lot at a high price to the handful i recently picked up got me at like $130
I m going to be blunt and sorry about that but comparing 151 with team up shows that you have clearly no understand of this market. 151 will probably stagnate for 5-10 years , if you are willing to park your money and wait than ok to do what you do. Why? People will not open boxes in the months to come because singles have collapsed and are very cheap , people will rather buy single than sealed boxes and also the attention will move to other sets , you won't see big stream ripping it... because it was released a year ago.... just trying to bring a pinch of reality and pragmatism.
C'mon man, you know thats an hyper underestimation based on history on almost every product released in the last 2 decades, even the worst collections have managed to be up x3 from the bottom within 2-4 years span, and you're telling me this will perform way worse, when this my friend, might be best box pokemon has release in the last 10 to 15 years (and yeah, thats just my perspective, but im not biased unlike 99% of people in the hobby because i couldnt care less about Pokemon as a hobbie myself)
Not here to judge but ask yourself if this statement is what you really think or if its actually you projecting your own desires of the product stagnating for 10 years for some reason.
Ask yourself why in first place even Pokemon company is angry for first time of the product reselling with this one and are desperately trying to bring the box cheap for Japanese people, they know this product is generational, they didnt choose to name it 151 for no reason.
Once again people cheering the product at 200$, now at 60$ i only read shit about it. In retrospective this gonna cause a lot of pain and angry people
@@jsc5814 I would have agreed with you if we were 1-2 years back... now this reprint is happening in a very weak period for japanese TCG, english has taken a big share of it where money and buyers are flowing into Sword and shield and recently Scarlet and violet... then to that add "one piece" that is selling like hot cakes on the japanese and english markets that also take a big share of the money... so the stock will deplenish much slower than in any period we have seen (i.e. like Vmax climax for example)... not saying that people who buy in high volume (the big whales) and sell in low margin can make profit, they will but for anybody else, time is the only option.
All good and no I didn’t compare it to Team Up but said “Can it be the next Team Up?” I threw Team Up stats out there because it’s the item that rise the fastest and Evolving Skies May or may not match it or be close or who knows what set. Could be Temporal Forces fr all we know. All I know is all my sealed boxes besides Japanese 151 have risen an average of 35% since January 1st and that’s what you want to see as an investor. Lots more people are opening 151 boxes that couldn’t before so this is a good thing and it has brought the singles down and if you are an investor who isn’t willing to “Park” your money while your investment matures then you are not an investor. Warren Buffet once said “The patient gain off the impatient”
this is single handedly the dumbest argument. People are ripping this in mass numbers. Including me. Ive opened 20 boxes the past week alone. Locally I've been selling these 5 - 10 at a time and every person i've sold these too is opening them to complete the Master ball set. Youre right that it's more logical to buy singles. But it's a proven fact that in this hobby that people rip shit more often than buy singles. And also singles for 151 have barely moved in the past few months so I have no idea what you're talking about. Also a ton of this reprint is boxes with no seal. At least half of the reprint that's out there isn't sealed. I mean by your logic no one opened up evolving skies. Quit wish thinking, guy.
@@Dire_Hit everyone has a perspective and a take on this set which is good in the long run. Nobody is right and nobody is wrong. We are all guessing what’s gonna happen with this set but I’m a believer in the long time investment. There is nothing like this set and may never be again. Even XY Evolutions can’t touch it and it’s highly successful 5 years after it’s 2019 reprint
