What a pity he is going but the younger generation is much more selfish with different goals and values. It sounds like the culture is to far gone. I worked with people like him and that is why old types of businesses worked and were very sucessful, you were part of a team. Your word and commitment was everything. What a shame.
I have always respected Leon Louw for his commitment to free market principles and have listened to him in the apartheid years and beyond. It must have been tough for him to make this decision and I admire, once again, his honesty and dedication to free market values over political shenanigans. Hope he finds that there are, among the younger generation, those that share that and who will work with him in a new organisation where he can hand the reigns to a young person passionate about a free market economy for ALL South Africans and not just the Elites.
In July the FMF, via its Khaya Lam (My Home) Land Reform project, transferred 713 properties from municipalities to residents, turning tenants of the state into home owners. This brings the number of transfers effected to date to well over 8,000, putting FMF on track to transfer 10,000 by the end of its financial year. Khaya Lam is the FMF's flagship project, and one that disproves the allegations of elitism.
This man is not who he pretends to be. And I find it sad that so many otherwise intelligent people are taken in by him. Ask anyone who is involved in the running of the FMF what they think of him. The true scandal here is Louw's behaviour. The lies he has told. The never ending blizzard of dirty tricks and nefarious behaviour. There is no "noble cause" he is fighting for. He tried to attain absolute power at an organisation that would not allow him to. And now that he has been unsuccessful, he is setting about destroying a great freedom advancing organisation using those very same dirty tricks. Louw did not "found" the Free Market Foundation. The founding of the foundation is well documented. When the FMF was originally constituted his title was "Secretary".
You should really dig a little deeper on this story Alec. This man is not who he pretends to be. There is a major scandal here. And it does not the lie in the actions of the FMF or her board.

Leon Louw’s story is really sad, but not believable. How can he pretend he did not know of the changes that happened under his watch. Mr Louw is either totally ignorant, no longer able to assess his surrounding environment, or a total naive opportunist not capable of mastering the reality of his responsibilities. For one, he should not have brought his failures to a public forum like this, but rather adopted another approach. He now seems like a loser. There are ways and means to resolve conflict inside any business, even call upon the rule of law. But to say you did not know your signing powers have been suspended reflects badly on him. It is your house, you created it to the image you wanted, no you clean your house up like the adult you are.
Perhaps you should then wonder how we South African citizens allowed a bunch of gangsters like the ANC to pull the wool over our eyes for so long. Or were you up there fighting them every step of the way and making your voice heard about the short sightedness of BEE. Let he who is without sin cast the first stone.

Life is full of surprises, would never have thought a non-binary Leon Louw was possible. So here you have it, Louw cutting his baby loose with tough love and a call for neutrality in political outlook.
The number of times he uses the term "non-binary" tells us all we need to know about his politics. Anyone that ignores the criminality of the government because they are "non-partisan" should be held accountable for the indirect support they provide to those destroying this country.
Check out his presentation on behalf of the FMF to the legal profession on how the framing of laws has passed from the legislature to the executive and you will see what a brilliant and incisive mind is at play here. If the Broederbond and the ANC hierarchy hadn’t colluded at CODESA we might have a decent constitution instead of the disaster we live with today. What happened then is similar to what is happening at the FMF today .. narrow vested interests and greed still prevail.
I have worked /interacted with Leon Louw in the last 10 years or so. A gentleman of note…great soul indeed.

There is much more to this story than Leon lets on. The whole FMF is to blame, except him.

I remember a couple of years ago I greeted Leon at an FMF event. He ignored me and walked right past me. No sympathy from me.
