      Monique-Chicago I did not experience any flaking with this DIY. I am a 3c/4a and my strand really absorbed the gel. Whn it dries it may leave ur hair slightly crispy but that goes away whn u style ur hair. But the hold is only about a 2-3 depending on ur texture.

    Freeze your gel in ice cube trays or silicone baking pans. Put in a freezer bag and thaw out what you need that way or will not go bad. Because I hate wasting product. Also use a French coffee press and it will be a life saver from the mess of extracting the gel from the seeds

      I put a funnel in my jar and then place a strainer over that. I use a funnel that has a good size opening to allow the gel to easily go through. Then I just pour the hot gel through the strainer and use a spoon to spread the seeds around and move the gel through. I don't have to touch the hot seeds at all and I don't have to wait for them to cool off.

    • @doThatGWalk

      James Petty oh snap lol, I hope your hands are ok.

    • @roselemarge9578

      it is reccomended to let the gel sit so that the texture becomes uniform and has time to become a bit more concentrated (if that makes sense)
      1hour should be enough time of sitting

  • @breea07

    I have made flax seed gel before; the only thing I didn't like was the flaking. However, there is an ingredient people say might help prevent that and it's called marshmallow root. I will be doing that sometime this week.

  • @VampireDraco04
    @VampireDraco04 6 років тому +1

    Hey Will! Love your videos by the way, you should actually try adding some aloe to it. It ups the moisturizing effects and makes it unbeatable by anything else honestly ( I also add some drops of Castor, Avocado, and Coconut oils to it). Thumps up on the peppermint oil addition too lol! The smell alone is epic, but the tingle is just sensational!

  • @babybenz8872
    @babybenz8872 6 років тому

    It really is the truth, ever since discovering it I won't use any other gel, and it's super easy to change how much hold you get and the scent by just adding in some essential oils or other stuff when boiling

    Yes I have made it in the past. One thing I added to mine that made a big diff was coconut oil. Maybe even a light carrier oil of your choice makes the flaxseed gel experience sooooo much better. And yes Sis, always put a moisturising barrier before using that FG! ☺

    I’m SO GLAD that you are using FLAXSEED GEL!!! My recipe: ONE TABLESPOON into ONE AND A HALF CUPS OF DISTILLED WATER: boil for 10-12 minutes, stirring occasionally so the seeds don’t stick. When you see the “gooiness” form on a spoon, strain it through a fine-mesh strainer, and I’m DONE! KEEP IN MIND that it’ll thicken as it COOLS. I’ll add some aloe vera powder (like a Teaspoon) sometimes just to bump up the nutritional value!
    You can ALSO EAT raw flaxseeds!!!! Put them in smoothies or oatmeal!!!! Additionally, the nutritional value is OFF THE CHAIN!!!! STAY BLESSED!

    To make it last longer, you can put it into smaller containers and freeze it. Once you need it, just defrost it and it’s all ready to go! I typically do this because it’s easier than having a huge jar of it that I have to get through 😁

    Hey Bae,
    L❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️VE your energy... when you make your next batch use slippery elm and marshmallow root with the flaxseeds too cause the marshmallow root makes it thicker so if you do 1/4tbs it has a level 2-3 hold and 2tbs level 9-10 and if you use 3tbs or more tbs than the stronger the hold is Sis and add rosemary,cloves and lavender oils too when you boil it to grow your hair even longer cinnamon oil works great too for hair growth. 🤗🤗🤗😘💋💋💋

    I make flaxseed gel and recommend it every chance I get! However, you can cook it too long, not long enough, you can store it too long, and be full of regret. (Yeah, I’m rhyming, lol). The economy can’t be beat, you buy a bag of flaxseeds for less than $3, the price of EcoStyler, but you get almost a years worth of product. I use 1/4 cup seeds to 2 cups, maybe a couple tablespoons more, and I get enough to moisturize for a month. I don’t keep mine longer than ten days in the fridge. Great video!

    I always add Argan oil, honey and essential oils to the Gel while it’s hot. I use it as a deep conditioner because it doesn’t work as a styling gel for me.

    How long does that gel last? How does it smell? And what if I wanna add some lavender oil or peppermint oil to give it a scent?

    Son, you are a little late to the flaxseed game, but I can TRULY relate to your elation! When I found out about this, I was re-born!!!!!
