In you’re opinion is it a safe car? I was about to boost my 86 to 400whp on a stock motor but now I’m thinking to sell it for an Elise. Everyone telling me I will be trying to fix cooling and miss fire issues at that power… But I’m seeing so many horror accidents of an Elise. Being a much older car the safety must be a lot less then.
Always nice to see some really good in car footage. You had the bit between your teeth when you were stuck behind that pickup with the huge wing. Great fun. More please.
Any crash you can walk away from is good, you can always fix the carbon fiber. How much fun passing all those German cars, I lost count, that is one fast Lotus. Thanks for sharing the video.
I hope he’s watched this and is grateful! If you’d stayed on the track I’m guessing you’d have tagged his rear end, sending *him* into a spin and a crash? So glad you weren’t badly hurt and the car was rebuilt.
Glad you are ok and awesome to see that FAST Elise back on the track kicking more ass. I'm all factory 2006 Lotus Elise - Normally aspirated. Subscribed.
Absolutely brutal watching that wreck. I tracked, and street drove an Elise for a few years till someone tapped it from behind. Lucky to walk away in one of them....
Very much what i wondered. Hard to know either way but the timing looked intentional, he at least deserved to be taken out with you. Schumacher would be proud.
That first crash shown was the worst, he destroyed two cars and his wasn't even hurt because of the bumpers he had put on his car, there was a major rule change after that crash to not allow any cars like his. He said he was fiddling with something on his shifter and he wasn't paying any attention that there was cars stopped ahead.
Wow, you do it all. Same as the old school moonshiners + Nascar drivers. After seeing that crash, though, maybe stick to the wrenching. We will have great videos from you to watch for a long time. Be well Steve.
Damn that sucks :( I guess the Corvette didn't see you coming. Here in Europe slower cars will indicate left/right to show which way they'll move and to show that they've seen you approaching. Do people not do this at US track days? What's with the funny wave bys? Doesn't seem very safe driving with the windows down.
It's always sad to see such beautiful works of art like the Lotus Elise get into crashes. I'm happy you and the car are both alright. That seems faster than a stock elise, what types of modifications are made to it?
The Lotus Elise is an amazing car. It’s obvious in this video that the lightness makes a huge difference. It would be good to have a video showing what modifications you have done to the car
I've never been on a track before and feel bad for the owner of the crash but are you allowed to pass on the right? I thought it was the left only? without reading comments I don't know.
It depends on what the rules for the event are and what country you are in, for example if you drive the Nürburgring in German you are only allowed to pass on the left. At this event the rule was that should hold your line and make the passing car pass you off line whichever side that would be.
Wow bad crash glad you made out safe - some very poor track etiquette from the other drivers there though, I hope the Corvette driver realised his part in this crash and learned from it, not to mention apologised to you!
Fuckin corvette, they should hild him accountabke for this and make him pay for the damage. Ibown a Lotus s2 also so this is hard to see, always loved that yellow. Nice you rabuild it and even nicer you were ok. What have you done to the engine for powerupgrades?
What have you done?? This car was supposed to be fast in the corners not on the straights. Happy to know you walked out from both those crashes, and hope to see more videos of you on track. 👍👍👍
I did some googling: The 111R launched in 2004 has a high-revving Toyota engine (mated to a fast-shifting six-speed gearbox) and with 190bhp its performance is stronger still. It will race from 0-62mph in just 5.2 seconds but the nature of the engine means it does have to be worked hard to access the power, which peaks high up the rev range.
You can see the extra side radiator on the damaged side. I bet you the other side also has one. Looking at the lines in and out, they spells chargecooling for me. Which probably means super or turbocharged. Could be anywhere between 250 and 400 bhp.
Moral of the story! Once you’re committed. You’d have been better off carrying on as only two things will happen, either they will get out the way or both cars will wreck.
You had the Lotus set to "Vegamatic " ...... You cut them all up!! I was laughing at the Mustang s as they wallowed thru the corners. You were Out-braking everything!! Vroom vroom. 🚘👏🚗
You obviously watch "Top Gear" (the stig) . What is the power source ? It can't be a "K" series with that sort of performance. We're the later cars Toyota engined? That pick was hard work but it was well sorted and well driven l think you'd agree. I don't think my AYGO is up to the challenge!😂😂

@@ThisWeekWithCars Ah I was wondering how the hell you were hitting the speeds that you were hitting on the straights that explains it! I hit a brick wall at 123-125 on a half mile straight with REV300 with only 258
I feel for you. Was involved in a nasty front end accident in a 2005 last year. Good on you for fixing it instead of getting rid of it!

Good to see you walked away safely from the crash. Will you video what mods you have made to the Lotus? I enjoy your videos 😊
Loved the hot laps at the end.
Selfish drivers can cause a lot of problems even if you drive perfectly.
Glad you survived. What was the excuse of the corvette drive who caused the crash?
Yeah, why did he go inside line, and decided to go for outside line at the last minute?
I know the feeling...I put an Alfa 4C into a wall at Sebring last year. Not a cool move by the Corvette, he did not need to go to the inside.
this car was just crazy fast!! glad you made it out of it safe!
Did you ever talk to the driver of the vette to see what he was thinking at the time??
I hope he’s watched this and is grateful! If you’d stayed on the track I’m guessing you’d have tagged his rear end, sending *him* into a spin and a crash?
So glad you weren’t badly hurt and the car was rebuilt.
This is awesome. It was cool to see your lotus at church the other day.
Great clip and a fantastic engine sound. Driving not too bad either !
impresive driving, always wanted a lotus elise
Very lucky!
Did you have to repair the front wishbone mounts. If so, I’d love to see how you did it? I’m facing a similar issue. Cheers,

What happen with the mofon on the Corvette?
Was that a blue ute/pickup you passed in the last lap, that thing goes really well and nicely driven, but no match for the Lotus, hey Steve?
You dont appear to have done any more content with the Lotus. Have you sold it? How much horse power does the car have? Thanks.
No I haven't sold it, has 400hp
@@ThisWeekWithCarsI am glad you havent sold it! 400 hp - good god! No wonder it was going past everything! Wow! What a cool car.

Great track video. Nice little car.
Amazing how strong the car is considering the body and front crash structure is fiberglass
Did you have a discussion with the guy who caused your crash after?
Himself?
@@PistonheadAsh What makes you think he caused it "himself"?
Yes the track officials got us all together. He said he wasn't paying any attention to his mirrors or what he was doing.
@@ThisWeekWithCars That's totally BS. Jerks like him don't deserve to drive on the track.

Was the manuver legal buy the car in front, prior to the crash.
That’s what I was thinking it looked to me like the guy in the corvette did it deliberately to block him. There is no way he didn’t see him coming.
Pointless maneuver when the other car is that much faster.
He should have been prosecuted for attempted homicide. You could easily have died.
Great job getting the Lotus back in shape and love the hot laps at the end. Please do more of them. What position did you finish in 2013?
Did either of the people involved in both crashes say anything to you after ?

400 now

Thanks for sharing. Wouldn't it be best to wait for a point by in traffic with lower skill level and track aware drivers like this?
Did they sanction that other driver?
good stuff
Glad you are ok. Sorry about the Lotus
Out brake, out corner better than those Porsche’s, just how Chapman wanted it
That's a pretty wicked charger you have there, fantastic to view. What was the idiot who shut you downs excuse.?
He said he didn't know I was there and he wasn't paying attention to anything, still doesn't explain why he would move over on that part of the track.
