Toni Braxton is an alto singer and I love her so much! Gabriel did homage to the original, I was happy there was no whistle notes! English has something unique and not found in most languages anywhere: It is the pairing of the “th” together. I’ve already given several - here are some o”th”ers: this, that, three, their, there, with, thee, thy, etc…. Native English speaker never “th”ink about it, because our tongues have been taug”ht” how to pronounce “the”se words since bir”th”. Next we have the letter “W” which is not used as much in Portuguese as English and the pronunciation is different: Ditto for the letter “R”. If you listen to Gabriel’s cover of this song again you will notice just how much his tongue gets a workout singing this song. God bless & have a happy new year. 👏🏼🥂🎉
Hi Timothy very well observed. And I'd like to point out the differences in phonetics and intonation that we have in different States from Brazil. Don't get me wrong, we all speak the same portuguese and understand each other perfectly, but there are different regional expressions and pronunciations. For instance , a paulista from São Paulo pronounces the "r" and "s" differently from a carioca from Rio de Janeiro. Gabriel is from Minas Gerais and the phonetics from his state has also some particularities. So, all of this summed up reflects on the enunciation of the words in english. Best regards man.
@@ato-2021, The U.S. has a multitude of accents as well. However, for individuals who graduate from a university with a “degree in communication”, and are seeking a job in broadcast journalism: They are taught a generic form of speaking English without accents; such as, the Southern draw, uniquely Boston, or varies New York accents. I live in the State of Florida which is bilingual and a vast number of accents. English and Spanish are spoken throughout the state. I speak English with a Southern draw, meaning I tend to speak more slowly in English and Spanish for that matter. My God Mother is a native Spanish speaker and has helped me with my Spanish. The Pop/Rock Music Industry can be rigid also with their desired pronunciation of English. In my humble opinion to our loss as listeners. I am Catholic and I pray in Latin quite a lot. I have found my years of learning Latin helpful in understanding Portuguese. I truly appreciate Portuguese, wish I could speak it, and would love to go to Brazil. God bless you, Timothy ❤️✌🏼

Some years ago I studied spanish that is actually close to portuguese , and before the pandemic, I was studying french which despite being a latin language it's hard to learn specially the phonetics. I live in São Paulo, the biggest city in Brazil. I've been in New York long time ago and for sure I want to come back when this disgraceful pandemic finishes.
