- Welcome to Mount Isa, the traditional lands of the Kalkadoon and Indjilandji people.
Our city is located in north-west Queensland on the banks of the Leichhardt River. With a population of approximately 21,000, it is the major service centre for the area.
Mount Isa is situated on the traditional lands of the Kalkadoon people who followed patterns of hunting and gathering, fishing and trade for many thousands of years before the arrival of the first Europeans. Kalkadoon craftsmen were famous for the quality of their stone implements. Hand-crafted tools were traded by the Kalkadoon people with other Aboriginal groups across western Queensland, as far south as Birdsville.
Today, Mount Isa City Council celebrates a wealth of talent, success and creativity in Mount Isa's Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community which includes professionals, educators, artists, musicians, tradespeople, health workers, business owners, entrepreneurs, community leaders and many other passionate, dedicated and successful people.
Our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities include Traditional Custodians, who represent the original Aboriginal inhabitants of the area, as well as a diversity of Elders and people who live and work in the City.
Guys i have been using the helium 3 and 4 and titanium and lime to use boats to protect the coral reef - did you realize that these boats can be used to remove the lead from your water pipe. My dad John Edmonds was with the Canberra water board for over 50 years.
I lived in the Isa in 1981 and 1982. I was school captain at sunset.🤔😂

I like your promotional video but it doesn’t show a lot of diversity.... traditional owners?
its his video like it or not......
It has a whole section of the video saying how diverse it is. Even though in reality it's likely to be much less so than Brisbane or Sydney. Just how the urban/rural thing breaks down.
It doesn't mention the fact that it has one of the highest crime rates, in Queensland in this video.
