    Hi! I’ve tried transitioning my dog over to raw from dried food. However, she starved herself for two weeks until I caved and put her back on dried. I read up on a lot of forums which told me to not give in, but I felt so guilty. Do you have any suggestions to make the raw food more appealing?

    • @CoopertheHappyCorgiHD
      @CoopertheHappyCorgiHD  4 роки тому +6

      We don’t have experience with this situation, but you could try mixing in the raw with the dried food little by little and slowly increasing the ratio of raw to dry. It is ok to mix the two for a short while and hopefully your dog will take a liking to the raw. You could also try other raw brands in case it is just the brand your dog is not liking. Good luck!

      I know this is old but try cooking the food and cook it less and less over time. Also using the food as a training treat and trick them into eating it! NEVER feed cooked bone of any kind!!

    my 83lbs goldendoodle got his frot limb amputated on may 28th about a week ago due to osteosarcome in front wrist. I dont give him any more kibble. I been feeding dr harveys paradigm food for about a week and he loves it but its too expensive cause I still have to add protein and fats. its costing me about $300 a month. I was looking into sundays and if I read right it will be about $179 for a 144oz box that will last him a whole month. Just dont know about nutritional value.? does my cancer dog needs about one gram of protien per pound of body wight?

    I found this video a little late. I'v been feeding OC Raw, but it's expensive so I decided to try myself. I ground 5 lbs of chicken legs, one pound of beef liver, one can of salmon and some spinach, carrots and apples. My poor dog loved it but got very bloody diarrhea. He's fine. I kept using the Only Natural dehydrated raw and mixing it. This is my first go at it, so now I know I have to do this differently. I will check out your store, It's just that I am retired with two dogs and was trying to do this for less money than the 8 dollars a pound that raw feeding turned into.

    • @les3259
      @les3259 Рік тому

      Maybe you feed too much liver. Beef liver is super rich in nutrients. Also organ meat loses the stool. But with enough bone the stool will be firm. Or maybe you changed your dogs food to quickly.

    • @CoopertheHappyCorgiHD
      @CoopertheHappyCorgiHD  4 роки тому +1

      That’s a really great question! Some dog pawrents use alternatives to raw when they’re traveling, like freeze dried or air dried/dehydrated treats/chews and then just rehydrating them with water for meal time. When we flew to another state with Cooper (see our travel videos in our channel!), we actually took our Coleman with us that contained Cooper’s frozen meals.

    Do bone in chicken tight and leg quarters count as the requirements for bone? I already have an idea of how much food to give my 87lbs goldendoodle 8 years old dog. But they are supposed to get 12-15% of bone/minerals a day..this is where I get confused . Will a leg tight or chicken quater or just single chicken neck be enough for bone requirement? Also I don't need to grind anything right I can just give it to him whole right?

  • @Ethorsen21

    Do you give him the bones too? I'm worried my dog will choke because she eats so incredibly fast

    • @CoopertheHappyCorgiHD
      @CoopertheHappyCorgiHD  5 років тому +1

      Cooper has been raw fed since young so he knows to chew up the raw bones well enough. If your dog is not used to eating raw meaty bones then supervision would be required. In general though, dogs know to break up their food into smaller pieces before swallowing. Also, you might know already, but never feed cooked bones as they can splinter and cause internal damage or blockage. Let us know if you have any other questions and thanks for watching! ❤️❤️❤️

    • @rodolfoslzr
      @rodolfoslzr 5 років тому +1

      Someone told me that raw bones don't make dogs choke only cooked bone can make your dog choke cuz it gets brittle and breaks into tiny parts that are sharp and that is what makes them choke.

      If you are serious about preparing home made raw meals for your dogs then we suggest doing as much research on the topic as you can. Every dog is different and the guides available online are a good starting point but would need adjustments for your dog’s specific needs. We are constantly adjusting Cooper’s meals based on his weight and trying to provide variety for nutritional completeness. Our advice is to do research, research, and more research before jumping in. Good luck and thanks for watching!

      French Bulldogs usually vary in weight between 16-28 lbs depending on gender. The estimate would be close to how we feed Cooper but could be less than $100 per month. It really depends on the weight goal you set for the dog and where you purchase the food from and what kind of add-ins are chosen. Good luck!

      Cooper the Happy Corgi Can you recommend anything for itchy skin? I currently feed my dogs a grain free, limited ingredient food. They’ve been eating it for a few years now, and they’ve never had a problem with itchy skin since I started feeding them it.. However, we had a pretty bad flea infestation for almost 3 months, starting in late January. (I live in Florida and we had an unusually warm winter, even by Florida’s standards.) Anyway, they haven’t had fleas for almost 3 months now, yet one of my dogs (my 4 year old Australian Cattle Dog) can’t stop scratching. I’ve tried Benadryl and a variety of different shampoos such as oatmeal, flea itch relief, antiseptic, and another one that I can’t recall. I’ve also tried coconut oil and a few different kinds of wipes, yet _nothing_ is giving my baby any relief. Do you have any suggestions?

      It is pretty hard to diagnose online (and we are not medical professionals), but a good place to start is an apple cider vinegar and water mix as a topical wipe/spray. It is a natural antiseptic and has helped some of our other doggy friends in the past with itching. Generally the itching can come from grains or some form of starchy/carb substitute in place of grains within foods. This is just our opinion so please take it with a grain of salt, but you just have to find what works for you and your dogs. Good luck and let us know how the ACV mix works out!

      @@fsociety3659 I know this comment is 2 years old...I'm only speaking from my CHRONIC ECZEMA~~~the best thing to remedy itchy skin was for me to STOP hot water bathing. I started taking cold showers and applying spring water to itchy areas. It cured my symptoms without having to rely on a steroid cream. Good luck

    Meat can mix with rice or sweetpotato?...

      That would be each dog parent’s choice but we would not personally do it because we do not think it is necessary.

    That isnt homemade though. You’re getting premade and then adding to it. With premade, you don’t necessarily know what you’re getting.

      Awesome video by the way, my friend has told me to feed my dog raw but I haven’t gotten the chance. This definitely pushed me towards to put in the effort to feeding him raw.

    How do you know the proper portion size for your dog's weight?

    • @CoopertheHappyCorgiHD
      @CoopertheHappyCorgiHD  5 років тому

      Usually people start with 2-3% of their dog’s ideal adult body weight per day and then make adjustments based on the dog’s activity level and calorie requirements.

      Sorry to hear about your chow chow. Dogs don’t just need protein in their diet. Their food has to be nutritionally balanced

    I’m scared to death to feed whole bone 🥵

    • @CoopertheHappyCorgiHD
      @CoopertheHappyCorgiHD  5 років тому

      You can try bones ground up with the meat as it will be easier to digest and should not cause issues. But if you are uncomfortable you do not have to do it. You should do what you think is best for your pet and that is ok. Don’t let others tell you what you should do. Thanks for watching! ♥️♥️♥️

      Jami Carpenter raw bones are soft and chewable for dogs. Cooked bones are hard and definitely not advisable. 😊

      @mona lisa on crack raw bones are soft enough to chew. You shouldn't feed hard weight-baring bones.

    Good video. My dog just eats ground beef I hope I’m giving her enough calcium I give her 1.25 pounds of food a day and she gets 1000 milligrams and cow kefir is that a good source of calcium?

    • @CoopertheHappyCorgiHD
      @CoopertheHappyCorgiHD  4 роки тому

      By ground beef do you mean including bones and organs? Kefir is good for probiotics. Green tripe is an excellent source of calcium and phosphorus in the right ratio. If you can stand the smell, your dog will love it!
