Hope this little sketchbook was an interesting watch. Let me know of your challenges when filling sketchbooks (of any size)
You gave excellent advice to young artists in closing this video.
Thank you so much for this great video! It was really inspiring to see how your pictures changed over the course of this sketchbook! Thank you for reminding all of us that we have to make a lot of bad art, through diligent practice, to get to the pieces that we love! Sometimes it’s hard to use “coveted” and “special” supplies on bad art, but it does make it more fun enjoying nice supplies!!! Am loving the mixed media class on Skillshare!!! Fantastic! Anyone on the fence, you won’t be disappointed!!! Please consider doing a class for drawing people/ faces!! You’re so talented at that too! I love how you create the idea of hair with just a few marks!
Thank you so much for this sweet and considered message. I’m really happy that you are enjoying my Skillshare card. I’m hoping to explore finger work and portraiture soon.
I hope you enjoyed your time in England TY for the tour.
I wish more coveted artists showed their "less liked work" & admitted their struggles. It's so easy to get caught up in the social media make believe.
Thoroughly enjoyed seeing your sketchbook work and hearing your thoughts. Thank you so much for sharing.
You are so welcome! More to come! And thanks for watching
Thanks for bring my memories of the cote d'azur back 🙏 I really like especially these pieces. And I enjoyed watching the whole sketchbook of course. Thanks for sharing.
You are so welcome! Please check out my latest video!
Loved this one Ohn Mar ❤
You are amazing! Super!
Thank you so much!
just wonderful walkthrough!😍😍😍
Thanks so much - what was your favourite
it is wonderful. you are a great fellow, cool sketches, especially for a quick hand, from the farewell ceremony with the queen !!!👏👏👏👏🖌️🎨🔥🔥🔥🔥🥰🥰🥰❤️🧡💛💙Peace to Ukraine🙏🇺🇦
Thank you so much 😀
Thank you. I find your videos so encouraging and inspirational. I have always been so critical of my art but as you say it’s an ongoing learning process. Thank you.
You can do it!
I'm loving your sketchbook tours!
I'm so glad Maria. I'm just about to finish another one!
It's encouraging to see such an accomplished artist tackle a new style -- urban sketching (which I have also been trying recently) -- and be willing to display early attempts that are not entirely satisfactory. I have been wary of committing my work to a proper sketchbook, thinking that there would be too many failures in it. But you show us that it's okay to not love everything that's in your sketchbook. It's also interesting to see you use different implements, like brush pen, pencil, watercolour-only, acrylic, even collage, as you develop an urban style of your own. I totally love your sketches of people, so few lines capturing so much. Thank you.
I think you've made a very important point Ruth. So much with social media is warped and you may not see the real thoughts behind sketches. This gives a false sense of the time scale of the process and that every piece MUST or HAS to come out. This is far from the case as you see in the sketchbook. I always wish to be authentic and realistic about what I am able to achieve even after many years of sketchbook keeping.
Thank you for sharing your tiny sketchbook, thought process and comments. Truly inspiring:)
You are welcome Angie
Wow! Thank you for sharing this with us! Your sketchbook is inspiring my creativity… 💕🙏🏼💕
You are so welcome! Takes for taking the time to watch and comment.
Best advice!!Don't look to IG for validation! (Thanks for saying that!). I loved seeing this and hearing about your source material (even some from the TV). These sketches are memorable and wonderful- I always love seeing your work!
Thank you so much for sharing this tiny sketchbook. I especially love the pages with the ink wash and collage to build the scene. Maybe your next Skillshare class or UA-cam video. 😊
Thank you so much!
"Go with your joy and paint what interests you." Good advice! Thanks! Thanks for talking about your sketches, too. I admire your work!
You are so welcome! I really appreciate your kind comment
You get so much more out of looking at the sketchbooks alongside your descriptions & thoughts, a great way to see them.
I think it's really important to write down all verbalise what we feel about the pieces once we finish them so that we can learn from each stage.
You are such a joy. Beautiful and inspiring. Thank you.
Love seeing your sketchbooks! They inspire me to loosen up physically and mentally and try things that I don't think I can do.
I'm sure if you guys yourself permission to explore you'll get there
Thank you for sharing! I love hearing your commentary- what you like, what you might have done instead, and the frequent reminders to not be afraid to try something new or create ugly art. I just tried something new this morning and it did not turn out well so your reminder was just what I needed to hear today.
I was also fascinated by the painting of the trumpeters- such an interesting picture and the movement you captured let me hear the notes they were playing.
It's really important to self assess the pieces that you create so that you can learn from them beyond 'I don't like this ....or... I didn't like that ...' so you can understand how you can improve and evolve as an artist
Thank you for posting, you are crazy talented, skilled, and generous !
You are most welcome and thank you so much!
Love all of the sketches especially the ones of the queen’s funeral and procession! It’s also really nice to hear you describe how you approached the subjects, what you liked and what you didn’t. I really love everything you do, but I especially love when you talk about growth and practice. So important to realize how many sketches it’s taken you to get to this point in your career!
Hi Emily. The Queen's funeral was very spontaneous and it was really interesting for me to work so quick. Every artist needs to find own ways of growing and evolving.
Thank you Ohn Mar. Loved seeing your sketchbook. Saw it from my email just when I needed to see it on a stressful day. You bring such calm to me.
I'm really glad to hear that my video had a calming effect. That is marvellous to hear.
Love your sketchbook! You've captured the places you described in such a bold, emotional way. I would like to get more used to sketching on location, and I love your collage pieces too.
I think it's very true that a lot of my sketchbook pieces are an emotional response to where I'm at and that enthusiasm carries through.
I really love the blue you used for your collage pieces…what blue ink are you using?
Do you have any videos on collaging? Your collage work is so beautiful!!
Coming soon!
Hi Ohn Mar, new subscriber here! I have been watching this video and taking note of how you analyse your drawings… I’d love to know what’s your process to critique yourself, and particularly finding how you deal with failed sketches. I often feel like I want to bin my sketchbooks because I’m not sure what I can get out of them after the fact if I’m not satisfied with my work.
Thanks for subbing! We learn from every single piece - you don’t lose by trying. You gain loads every time
Recently you asked what I was interested in learning. I love all of your flowers!I would love to take a workshop with you on urban sketching. Any possibility of that?
I have plans for several urban sketching videos and a new florals class - its organising my time and myself ! But watch this space!
