actually being a musician is a total different thing than actually doing the job of a sound/mastering engineer or anything like that :P a musicians job actually is to play an instrument, some of them probably actually know how some effects working, for example someone playing an electric guitar for sure is familiar with compression, chorus, reverbs, distortions and most of the effects and probably at some point will use /experiment with all in a period of time.... how mixing/mastering works other than just playing one instrument... is totally a different story...
This taught me a lot about mid/side EQ that I wasn't aware of using just glorified plugins. That's why stock plug-ins work so well...what you see is what you get.
You boosted the mid side, and cut the mid mid. What about the side side, topside and starboard? Producing is confoosing. I'm considering changing my career path to firefighter.
Oh-K so check it... you really should subscribe to Skill Share. You are the perfect candidate. Sorry about your confoosing. Perhaps take up foosballing?
Finally someone explained it in a way I understand. It's super simple but people making videos about it seem to not understand what it does themselves. So big thank you, I now suck less at mixing.
Dude, you're hilarious! You have the best intros and outros ever! Every time you mention your childhood I burst into laughter 😂(just because I believe you're joking, I really hope so!).
i really love your videos. we need more mixing tutorials. when do you equalize your single tracks? bc in the first mixing lesson we've learned to kick out all those little eq's n shit, which doesn't affect the sound in general. I'm really confused about the right order of this whole process. when am i supposed to mid and side eq?
I've got nothin clever to say but just thanks. I 'd hit a roadblock and all your lessons are exactly what I needed. I like your style, you crack me up.
Okay so maybe I'm a dingus but...doesn't the "bass mono" function in Utility do the same thing as a low cut on sides for the bass? If so, why do one vs the other?
I'm confused. I want my mix to play well in mono. Does that not mean I should cut all out of phase sounds. In this regard it seems bad to boost the side of anything, so why boost the high frequency content at the side? -my guess- for a separate stereo mix? separate mono mix? really asking here
God, the way you explain everything is so compeling!! I'm learning a lot with this chanel. Do you know anyone that explains how to work with Logic at this same level??
I went to a song I made a few months ago and tried using the technique where you go to the sides of your bass first and cut out some of those yucky frequencies, and my bass in the song had nothing for the sides. It was analyzing nothing. Whats the reason for this?
Hey underbelly, I dig your channel, been watchin for a while, you break shit down in an easy and amusing way. It's dope. Two full minutes on skillshare in a 6 minute video on mixing kinda sucked though, I spent the whole time writing this comment and didn't even learn about this side mixing stuff.
Ok so check it : Do you give lesson on line and is it possiblle to send you an ableton project so you could tell me how much I'm suck at mixing and producing ?
Great vid bro, but I’m still a little confused. So when you raised the sides and took away the mids of the drums, wouldn’t that phase up the mix? Just wondering if I’ve been viewing mid side wrong till now
When he said „you realised that music isn’t for you“ I really felt that

once im all done crying and feeling sorry for myself I actually end up learning a lot from these videos, thanks man
He destroys your musical dreams to promote skillshare now thats good marketing
im pretty sure that segway had them drop their sponsoring of his videos
This taught me a lot about mid/side EQ that I wasn't aware of using just glorified plugins. That's why stock plug-ins work so well...what you see is what you get.
Only joining skill share if there’s a beating off section.
new lesson on skillshare: Beating Off with P i x e l W a x
best advertisement ever. gotta stop making music now

I'd rather fight fire on a professional athletic level than confoosball. Or cut sides of hair, or lambshank.
well said

That grin at the end always cracks me up

Ive been watching all of these and they're great, but hearing the mid of the drums change made my jaw drop. This is so useful
I went through all of these mixing vids and you've really helped me re-evaluate my whole system. Thanks for that!
Perfect timing bro, I was just at this step for one of my first tracks. TYBasedUnderbelly
Let’s get started.. 😃
Ookey so check it.
"you already tried that and didnt work out for you" LMFAO🤣
Again, really informative and told in such an easy to digest way. Thank you!

I feel the same - great individual lessons but I'm confused as to the process in general. Did you end up figuring it out?
this is honestly the most helpful thing on youtube for mixing
botany
that kind of humour...priceless :))) i'm gonna subscribe straight away
bro really out here saving people 4 years of study with 45 minutes of video tutorials. bless you sir
literally changing my life with each video
you are a very good teacher a part from producer, thanks for sharing
Wow I just learned a lot from this
Well you just lost all your audience to little frogs, didn't you?
I've got nothin clever to say but just thanks. I 'd hit a roadblock and all your lessons are exactly what I needed. I like your style, you crack me up.
Dude...I can't stop laughing! Thanks for that and the mid side explanation.

Underbelly is secretly Bob Ross
Exactly my thoughts
Bro you really make my day 🤣🤣
Wowzers.
I feel like this is a hidden gem for mixing. Thank you
Okay so maybe I'm a dingus but...doesn't the "bass mono" function in Utility do the same thing as a low cut on sides for the bass? If so, why do one vs the other?
I was wondering this same thing. But the way he uses it on the snare is something utility can't do.
omg i'm crying and learning at the same time.. what sorcery is this!
"..or you could get started with email marketing!"
I lost my shit
I literally typed I suck at mixing in the search bar and this came up. Lol. Great vids dude.
“I ‘m gonna cream myself...” hahaahhaahahhahaahahhahahaaha
Im loving this series
after that add I subscribed without thinking it twice
These videos are so helpful.
thank you mate. Could you please make a tutorial how to make that reese bass style bass sound (serum)? I really dig the sound!
I'm confused. I want my mix to play well in mono. Does that not mean I should cut all out of phase sounds. In this regard it seems bad to boost the side of anything, so why boost the high frequency content at the side? -my guess- for a separate stereo mix? separate mono mix? really asking here
No extra questions get answered here..lol
The sides completely disappeae in mono, try it
After all of these tutorials are done, do we still suck at mixing?
That's up to you to decide, ya dingus!
that's the end goal
i showed these tutorials to my 3 year old, and he sucked at mixing before, now he is worse at it
5*
That damn Skillshare ad hit the heart.
Just started watching your channels and damn....I'm a fan 👍👍
Bruh this guy is full of humor ❤
i like your smile at the end
best thumbnail yet
Superior training, UB. Thanks
I’m 4 videos in and just realized I knew nothing about mixing thanks bro
Goddamn I love these videos
This was the most useful tutorial so far, loving it! But did you film this with a potato?
P O T A T O S T H E T I C
I'm guessing that utility feature was added in Live 10?
no, its also in 9
@@LiBB111111 No, it 100% is not in 9.
thanks for learning me how to mix, I really appreciate it!
yo underbelly u da goat
Underbelly is the funniest human on UA-cam.

woodland craters?
God, the way you explain everything is so compeling!! I'm learning a lot with this chanel. Do you know anyone that explains how to work with Logic at this same level??
Thanks so much for this! Definitely something I would not have stumbled upon myself.
"Trunks...something that I didn't have growing up."
I really don't like where my brain is connecting that to.
Could you use the stereo separater in fl studio to do this easier?
Thats great man
"Learn how to mix music well we already tried that one didn't really work out for you" 😭
very helpful and hurtful
Exactly how my subconscious talks.
Thank you, you are so sweet
okay back to frog making everyone. No dreams allowed.
I went to a song I made a few months ago and tried using the technique where you go to the sides of your bass first and cut out some of those yucky frequencies, and my bass in the song had nothing for the sides. It was analyzing nothing. Whats the reason for this?
It was probably already mono?
Thanks 🙏
Should I do this to each track or just the drums and Bass....?
Isn't boosting the side at the end going to disappear in mono? Wasn't this whole thing for the sake of mono compatibility?
Hey underbelly, I dig your channel, been watchin for a while, you break shit down in an easy and amusing way. It's dope. Two full minutes on skillshare in a 6 minute video on mixing kinda sucked though, I spent the whole time writing this comment and didn't even learn about this side mixing stuff.
this guy is great
Next episode. We look at OTT . I cream myself
For those of you who don't like frogs 🐸 let's get back to the mix.. Ok so check it ✊🎤🔥
This is super useful, unfortunately I use FL studio. Which plugin would I be able to apply it there?
Ableton 10 thats the plugin
FabFilter Pro Q3 have mid /side option
Is it just me or does Underbelly sound a lot more serious than he usually does in most of this video (the actual tutorial part)
Thank you for this information though
I really, really want that bassline sound. What is it?
Can't you just mono the track with the utility tool?
Wowzers I just made a mess in my trousers
Sheeet. Your lessons so easy for understanding and so it powerful. Just amazi.. chek it.
Ok so check it : Do you give lesson on line and is it possiblle to send you an ableton project so you could tell me how much I'm suck at mixing and producing ?
Very subtle Shoenice vibes
what is the equivalent of the Utility thing in FL ?
this is the perfect way for me to learn because this is how i teach people lmao
So ready for skill share nothing wrong with a bit of basket weaving…. thanks made me laugh!
... i love u.
can anyone tell me what bass this is?
the intro on this one probably bummed some people out lmao
ohhhhhhhkayyyyysocheckit
man i love tutorials. He so sarcastic haha
This guy fuckin cracks me up,😂and so helpful.
you don't want your mix to be 100% mono though right? don't you want specific higher frequency sounds (fx, leads) to be more stereo?
I only have eq3. how do u do it with that? es impossible?
.lmao......."learn how to make tiny little frog sculptures......wowzers".......as Skill Share slowly backs our of the room......
🔥🔥🔥
how can think about this?
Dr. Dre uses this technique!!
Great vid bro, but I’m still a little confused. So when you raised the sides and took away the mids of the drums, wouldn’t that phase up the mix? Just wondering if I’ve been viewing mid side wrong till now
yeah no
