Another way of distinguishing between the B3 variants is on the exhaust pipe the oil overflow pipe coming from the oil reservoir. In the 2B its on the end of the exhaust pointing into the end of the pipe. In the 2B1 it been moved into the middle section of the exhaust pipe and in to a hotter section of the exhaust. In the 2D variant this pipe is just after the turbine blades in the hottest section of the exhaust pipe.

There was also a B2 VEMD with a twist throttle as well.

Another question, I noticed that older AS350's tend to have one master switch for power, but later models like the B2 with the VEMD have a BAT and Direct BAT switches, like you find on Honeywell conversion kits with BUS Bars. Any insite on what the difference is and why?

Good question. The direct battery bus has two different purposes depending on if you are looking at a EC130 and the AS355 or the AS350. On the 130 and 355's the direct battery bus will be the only bus providing power to specific electrical components (on T2 its two buses) after the emergency cutoff (AS355) or the emergency switch (EC130B4) or the Shed position of battery switch (EC130T2) is engaged. These switches are engaged after an electrical fire or smoke in cockpit to isolate only the bare essential components. On the AS350 models it is used for a radio so that you can only engage that switch and only power a radio so you can get start clearance in many parts of the world without draining battery too much.

We have a bunch of SD2s , They took a beautiful B2 and slapped a Bell engine in there. Those LTS are such a pain to keep working well but the pilots like them, the B3s just cost too much for our utility sector. We really need to do a cost assessment on the LTSs 80% of our snags are engine related.

Any videos planned about SD2/FX2 kits? They're quite popular in my area.

What the main purpose of heat shield on B3e with Arirel 2D more larger / 2 segments.
    Thanks before Mr. Glenn

A brief history of the heat departing the engine on the AS350.... in the beginning the exhaust was short on the Arriel and Lycoming engines.... so aerospatiale made the first part of the of the tail rotor drive out of steel. Then the exhaust as the the engine became more powerful started getting hotter.... so on B2 they canted it to the left. On Arriel 2 version of helicopter with the even hotter exhaust Turbomeca designed a longer exhaust port to cool the air a bit before leaving the engine. This routed the hot air over the tail boom where there are hanger bearings and the aluminum tail rotor drive shaft. In an effort to protect those items Eurocopter created a heat shield. Believing a more robust heat shield was needed they created the bigger one on the EC130B4. that worked very well. So just eventually brought it over to the B3

Not entirely correct. The B3e is available with both the short or long heat shield.

The B3e is not available with the smaller heat shield. At the very beginning of production it had a smaller heat shield like the 2B1. Airbus then changed the heat shield to the longer one and the short installation is no longer available.

I hate to disagree. I just was in the order process of a new one. And all our 2016 B3e have the short shield. But we don’t have to fight over it.
