He makes it seem so easy. I taught English Conversation to adults for 16 years and very few non-Americans can pull it off. I appreciate his effort to explain how the American r works.
It was really helpful for many of us.
"R" sound is totally different from all other alphabets.
Thank u
@@Zauvs in most other languages it's either guttural or rolled, english is the only language i've come across that uses such an awkward tongue position.
@@bryanfongo327chinese and dutch also have the same /r/ as english
I cried watching this, I hate how I have a speech impediment, but I like how you interact with the viewer, and made me feel like you were actually talking to me, it was fun, enjoyable and nice, I’ll watch this video a few times a weak to practice, thank you.💗
Same
youre not alone trust me
Me, too
Something I wish I knew when I was a kid is that it’s not permanent, you can and will learn it correctly over time, I used to be scared to even say my name, now I sing confidently, I remember watching these videos stressing out feeling like I’d never get it, you will, don’t give up, don’t feel bad, you are special and god made you that was for a reason, don’t let it make you feel bad, you can do ANYTHING you set your mind yo
I remember watching these videos and breaking down feeling like I would never get it, now I do, don’t give up, don’t get down, don’t stress, you have the power and one day you will be able to speak even better than anyone else
For me as arabic speaker originally "R" is the toughest letter in english cause in arabic R is pronounced by tongue touching the upper frontal teech which sounds like strong and repetitive
Same for russian speakers.
Ok
@@HotdogflavoredwatermelonI think also Spanish
@stasstropsa5328 but I found it is to say better and native for me with correct pronunciation it's weird

You have such a clean voice, no mumbling at all, and you speak at the perfect pace (slow enough but still natural). Thanks so much. Keep up the brilliant work. 👍
You are my favorite teacher, your english is so natural and clean
woohoo!
Nice work Luke! Just want to mention that this teaching is valuable for tutors who work with dyslexic kiddos. They need to understand sound production and the physics involved in our very complicated language. Thankful Tutor-
Hi Luke. Thank you so much for your lessons! You do such great job for us. I have already studied your eight courses and I bought two more a day ago. They are old ones. One is about making clients happy and another one is about job interview. I am enjoying learning them now. I don't have deal with clients but I find this course useful anyway. Sometimes we are clients. So this course can help us to understand people who provide services to us and to get along with people in our daily life. Thanks again!
So glad to hear it! I noticed you had started those courses
Native English speaker here, never been able to say it, this really helped thanks!
this is hands down the best explanation of R sound i've ever heard.
This was awesome! You've helped so much! Gonna follow your advice. Thanks!
Luke! Thank you for your videos! I founded your Chanel today. Congrats!
I am now correcting my r sound thank you so much teacher Luke, it really helps a lot. God bless always.
Thanks a lot. You're brilliant.
I bought the full course and I'll start watching all of it. Thanks again. ❤️
Thank you for making this video! I am dyslexic and I have troubles with speaking, this really helped me!
You are a Genius. I have always struggled to pronounce word ending with letter R. You have made it so easy for us. Thank you
As someone who lives in Massachusetts and has to listen to people with Boston accents, I thank you for this video.
I always had an issue while pronouncing the hard R , thank you.
Lmao
Thank you for this video. I’m an Italian “R Flipper/Triller” living in the US and the R sounds is the hardest to produce properly for me. You made me realize that I was overdoing it! This helps me a lot ❤
I'm from Iraq I love Italy very much
As someone who has struggled with a speech disfluency for a long time, I appreciate this refresher.
This video really helped me among other videos out there.Thank you so much,Sir.
Brillant ! Your explanations are very fluids and your language very comprehensible. As French, I can understand.
Oh man! Thanks for helping us about this. I'm from Brazil and I'm also teaching english to a friend and I she's from Minas Gerais, which is a place that anybody speak words with "R" sound. They used to use the "h" sound instead. So it's something like that: Hadio (radio) and it's so hard to teach her to change this "R/H" and make her speak like "Restaurant, Radio..." but I'm going to use your video.. let's see if I can do it 😄
Thanks a lot!
That tongue tip actually helped me so much, I can feel my pronunciation got a lil better
I'll keep practicing
how is it going
can you say it now
Omg this really helped me, I usually make people misunderstand when I say words like red and then they think it sounds like wet, but this video really helped me, thank you.
Same, if I say "reread" for example, it always sounds like "weweed"
Thank you for this wonderful video!
Your English language is so clear😊
Sure, I liked it! Thank your for your work!
Thank you so much, native English speaker who has always struggled with this, this helped a ton
You're not Obama I am!
Thank you so much for your help.
Me as a non native speaker find it very easy to pronounce the r ,i think what’s really difficult is to pronounce word combinations like „either way“.
„Either“ alone is no problem ,“way“ alone also is no problem but as soon as I have to put them together it sounds so weird and I end up just saying the r flat .
Man, you are the best! Thanks a lot, now my Slavic accent is way better))
Your knowledge is very important , thakns bro
THANK YOU this was extremely helpful❤❤
Wow thanks you ..i will train as much as possible.INSHALLAH
The American R is a nightmare for us Arabic speakers.
Thx G 👍👑
you really helped me, THANK YOU
Its really helpful
Thankyou so much😊
extremely, useful. thank you very much!
Rolling the tip of your tongue up is only 1/2 of the job. If you want to really make it sound native, you also need to push (or pull) your whole tongue a bit to the back (towards your throat)
Great video, thanks!!!
Love the tricks.
Thank you so much Sir . Brilliant way of teaching, I like it . Your English was very nice to hear . Keep doing Sir
I'm always follow you ❤️✨😊

Using this to help my adult students learning English. Thanks!
My English accent is already pretty good so I definitely have some sort of idea on how the pronunciation works but wow for some reason hearing you enunciate r that way just made something click in my head
Hopefully it was a good click
Helle! Thank you for this lesson, I wonder why the R is so difficult make properly.

Hey ,thank you ,this helped me ,since I'm European
Hi Luke, although I can make the R sound correctly-I hope :-) ( I am a choir singer and I have a good music hearing and I also like an American accent), I 'd like to say you are a great English teacher ! I've figured out how I can explain how to say my name -Jarmila to you. :-) I've figured out it now :-) The 1st letter-J is said like when you say YOU but only the first half of it-just J. And the rest of my name you said correctly. Greetings, Jarmila.
I still have troubles, I grew up mute here in America but my family is Asian and Mexican, was in speech for 10 years, it's still hard for me, thank you for this video

thanx brother
Amazing. Thanks. He sido sorda toda mi vida entonces. What about RARE?
American (r) is a vowel. You can sustain it until you run out of breath and it sounds the same from start to finish. It's the single monophthong vowel in the word 'drt'. Usually we use the combination of 'er' to represent the sound (ie 'better', 'gather') but that's only because we were brainwashed into believing that (r) is a consonant which led to the false notion that we needed to insert a vowel.
You're totally right in practicality; that's exactly how I teach it to students. I think the speech science wonks have termed it a 'semi-consonantal vowel', though. Which means essentially what you said, but with some weird technicality which gives it a consonant flavor.
@@Vagabondobiondo Yeah. It creates difficulty using vowels as if they are consonants. It's hard to figure out what we're doing with our mouth parts as well. I believe we do similar things with the word 'coordination' where a /w/ approximate may be used between the two /o/'s which gives the second /o/ a consonant flavor but we tend to recognize the /w/ as the consonant sound but we do the same thing with the 2nd /r/ in the word 'error' where we do a vowel /r/, consonant flavored /r/ and then another vowel /r/, an ill-begotten word for certain but we're stuck with it.
Thank you 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
