  • The Scubapro Hydros Pro is a great BCD for local diving but also great to bring along on a trip thanks to the removable weightpockets. Although this is a great BCD it doesn't mean that it is without flaws. In this latest review of the Scubapro Hydros Pro we tell you if it is worth a buy.

      Love the Hydros Pro for several reasons. The BCD back pack carries all my gear except the fins. Perfect for travel. I also have the Air2 and made the primary hose a little longer and with flexi hose. There is not a better BCD on the market at this time.

    I'm a new diver and within one year earned my PADI Master Scuba Diver certification. I purchased the Hydros Pro BCS with Air 2 "octo" and its the only system I have dove outside of a few training dives using the shops rental gear. I highly recommend the Hydros Pro! Its super nice fitting, nice to dive, and a synch to pack. Nearly all my gear fits nicely into the supplied backpack. The Hydros BCS dries quickly after exiting the water, means less weight and mess to deal with. I have taken the the HYDROS BCS on air travel once to Hawaii and it was super cool as a carry on even with my fins strapped to the backpack compression straps. Back home in the Seattle area I dive a drysuit in salt and fresh water and have logged over 90 dives with this BC system. I have dove this rig in cold conditions, no ice diving yet, and it worked as intended, zero issues with the Air 2. I'm a gear nut and recommend if you can afford this rig to give it a serious consideration. Of course everything in SCUBA should be considered as application specific gear, however any recreational diver should be very happy whit this system. The other thing I really appreciate is getting away from all the nylon cloth and huge velcro cumber bun attachments found on other BCD. Over time velcro tends to eat away at nylon straps and fabrics that are in close proximity of the hooks. The Hydros Pro is a very smart system and works very well. This is not a paid endorsement. So check out some of my diving adventures and subscribe to my youtube post at @ Cheers!

    1) "missing d ring" is integrated into the strap.
    2) octo clip is integrated into swivel buckle.
    3) extra pieces allow customisation
    4) scubapro patented their quick release method because all other methods are crap. never had an issue with releasing them. on the other hand i have fetched countless mares, tusa, aqua lung etc pockets from the sea bed

      @marksallows113 4 роки тому

      Totally agree with you about weight pockets. solid clip with audible noise, ensures they are secured. Scubapro's Supercinch tank clip is an industry best too. You'll never be reattaching a tank from one of these

    Clarification in what was said in the video. For six years with the Air2 version I have been able to fit a large amount of gear in the back pack. I carry a main regulator set, bail out regulator set, snorkel, mask inside a rigid plastic mask box from the retail shelf, dive computer, Paralanz dive camera, two dive lights, a dive knife. To say I get a lot of kit inside.
    The point of clarification is that you can have large dive fins as I use the Apeks RK3 Fins. The design intent is that you place your fins over the back of the backpack and use the compression straps to hold them to the backpack as you walk around and it works very well. I have used this several times on airline trips to Hawaii as this is my carry-on luggage, with zero issues!

    I got this bcd and used it 3 days ago for the first time. I have to say great stability, nice fit (little hard material whit only a swimming short) ofcourse their are a lot cheaper BCD’s available. But in my opinion it is an amazing bcd, a lot of extra features for attaching extra pockets, knives or lights. Every attachment does come with a price but my opinion. TOP OF THE LINE!!

    I have had the Hydros Pro since it's launch in 2016 and it's been joy to use. Props to Scubapro for replacing both shoulder straps with the improved versions at no charge. Something not mentioned is the provision of a crotch strap mount, which I use (Scubapro X-Tek Crotch Strap). I love the no cummerbund feature.

    I have an Scubapro Equator for travel and have loved it, but now intend to purchase a Hydro. I like the whole concept and the fact that it dries very quickly. With regard to the weight pocket attachments. I was on a dive through coral caves in Fiji, and one of the divers (very experienced) had quick release integrated weights, one of which unclipped against a rock and dropped out in a swim through. It required a buddy the swim back in and re-attach it, as the diver was unable to swim down. For this reason I prefer Scubapro clips. I have never had difficulty releasing them during emergency and rescue training. Just my opinion. Love your reviews.

      Thanks peter! The scubapro system has pros and cons that's true. Still we'd prefer that the come off as fast as possible in case of emergency without losing them when diving. Mares seems to have this down in their new SLS system!

    I personally like the hydros pro a lot it has become my all time favorite, especially the weight pockets super easy and very quick to dump weight if needed. And as for d rings the location is perfect for the necessities, psmb, torch, OCTO and so on and so forth, no Christmas tree here. Plus it’s quick drying... So I guess it’s all in the eyes of the beholder. Can’t please everyone but for me it’s a bad ass BC

    i bought the Scubapro Hydros Pro a year ago and has been using it for many dive trips, in overall satisfy with the performance. The greatest setback is the weight pocket, as i only use 4 pounds weight (2 pounds on each side) and the weight pockets are far too big for it and the weights will move from one side to another and it do disturb my trimming under the water.
    So i actually put the weights at the back pockets of the bcd but it will be not possible to dump weight immediately in case of emergency

    i will say that I'm OK with they way they did the dump weights on this. i moved to this from a TUSA Soverign Alpha and not that the quick release is a bad thing but i had a buddy with the same BCD with the quick release and got tangled in a decent line during a training dive and when he separated himself from the decent line the weight pocket was pulled out and he lost that weight and had to abort the dive until he got additional weights. i dont think the slight additional step of a pinch on the buckle is that bad and i prefer it to know the weights wont accidentally get pulled.

    • @50ftBelow
      @50ftBelow  6 років тому +1

      You are right Jackhigh but now a days many brands have fixed the problem of weight pockets coming loose during your dive. The SLS pockets from Mares don't fall out just like the surelock from Aqua Lung (Without getting it tangled in a line off course). But you can be sure the hydros pocket won't fall out because of the extra clip.

    I am considering buying a BCD but am pretty confused between the AL rogue and the SP hydros Pro.. gonna do my dive master soon..what do you recommend? I read about the hydros Pro getting the shoulder strap damaged every now and then, despite the new design (apparently the company recommends not using the strap to lift the BC even without the tank) .. on the other hand I am quite used to using the dump valve on the right shoulder to deflate..
    Which one do you think is better of the two? Open to any other BCs as well.. thanks a tonne!!

      This is two versions. One with a regular inflator and one with the Air2. Obviously, the air two is a full-blown bailout regulator on the end of the inflator hose therefore the more expensive version you have likely stumbled across on your Internet research on pricing.
