Canandaigua NY. I was tending bar when the whole micro brew movement started in America. Sam Adams was the best choice in many restaurants and bars that only served cereal grain beer your Grandpa drank. They sponsored a home brew contest and the winning recipe became one of their offerings. It made it's mark and hence deserves our respect.
So what beer are you referring to that won "a massive home brew contest", that became one of thier regular offerings, because it sure as hell wasn't Boston Lager, since Koch himself claims Boston Lager was his father's recipe that was recreated by him in 1984.
To me the remastered version tastes like Boston Lager Light.

Near Tacoma Washington. Sam Adams is a great choice for gift giving to a person that you don't like. It looks like you are being nice and care, but you don't.
Nelson from Melbin, Australia, I enjoyed Sam Adams when I was in the U.S.A in 2019 so I don't know what tastes like now but Sam Adams is also what got me into Sour beers, which I understand is not for everyone.

It's garbage
The remastered Boston Lager has a softer taste. Yes, the bitterness is there. But, it's not as pronounced.
They ruined it.
I kept trying Sam hoping I could find something to love. I go away feeling that there is quality yet I don’t want to drink more than one. For mass produced quality beer I prefer Sierra Nevada beers.
I just picked up some today and it does not say remastered anywhere on the case or bottle anywhere

I will stick to the German brews. Thanks for trying it. I like the beer brewed within the German purity law. Sam Adams just seems off a bit to me. Have a Happy Thanksgiving!
I believe Sam Adams conforms to the purity law in that it doesn't use adjuncts or brewing syrup. They do add different spices, pumpkin, and other natural ingredients to their brews though
It isn't terrible, but I will usually chose other stuff over them. Like almost always. The German Beer Purity law is required that “nothing other than barley, hops, and water” be used to produce beer.@@ExecutiveCounsel

@@ExecutiveCounsel Water, yeast, hops, malt. Literally anything else violates the Purity Law. It was a good idea 500 years ago but today all it does is stifle experimentation and creativity.

Tried a longtime ago, it was meh. Tried the new one yesterday, liked it a lot, but it was smoother, rounder, less bite than I recalled it having. Beer City, NC
I used to enjoy drinking Boston Lager before the "remastered" thing. It used to be my go-to beer. Now not at all. It's pretty flavorless now, and it has no real body to it. Watching from Hartford, CT while drinking a Bells Two Hearted IPA.
S. Central Kansas. That's funny. Boston Lager is one of my favorite all time brews. That and Boston Ale. Not keen on any other beer they make, to be frank. This remaster is lighter and not as full. I can see how someone who doesn't dig the original might like this one better. Cheers!

Boston Ale will never be again. SA doesn't give a single shlllllt about making good beer again, hence why they discontinued their 8.8% double bock in 2008 after the whole fiasco of glass shards in their bottles, in which they pulled al their beer from stores for an entire 3 months.

Watching from Berlin, Germany! I grew up in England, where it's possible to get Sam Adams on draught and in bottles (unlike here - forget finding American beer for the most part), I always liked it. I dare say it wasn't imported, though, rather brewed on licence...
If you live in Germany why in the world would you even look for American beer ???
@@squiremuldoon5462 because I find that German beer on the macro level, although in many cases fantastic (love a good Helles), can get a bit same-y with their whole Reinheitsgebot obsession. Allowing for a bit more variety would be a good thing, I think.

Out here in Springfield, Oregon anything less than $10 would be considered a cheap beer. (Must be all the state taxes ). I’ve never been a “Boston Lager” fan. We have so many craft breweries here. Life is to short to drink cheap beer 😀

Their original Boston Lager still tops their stuff for me - haven't tried this remastered, little concerned haha.
I have really enjoyed their Chocolate Bock, put that one on tap during the holidays. Surprisingly good, would have thought Chocolate Stout or Porter, but Bock and absolutely nails it.
The original chocolate bock that came in 22oz bottles with the metal labels was great. The version they put out after that was absolute garbage.
I drink Boston Lager regularly, and I was halfway through a bottle before I realized it said 'remastered' on it. I didn't notice any difference.
They completely ruined it, it’s basically a watered down version.

I loved Samuel Adams Boston Lager for a long time. The remastered formula was OK, but now there is a beer scam going on. The packaging and bottle have changed with lots of red up close to the cap. Beware of that beer as it tastes like crap. It is not the same beer. The bad beer comes from a local distributor in my area called Keg1. Just 12 miles away I can still get the good beer from Grellner Distributing. If the company is trying to boost profits by changing to the "bad beer" it will not work. The public will not stand for it. I finally was able to contact their HR department and the woman there assumed I had gotten ahold of a "bad batch." NO. I am seeing a company switch to cheaper ingredients in order to make more money.
Remastered to taste like a hoppy IPA. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. I'll return to Sam Adams when they bring back the original formula. This reminds me of New Coke back in the 80s. 😡🤬☠️ Minneapolis but born & raised a Yinzer from Pittsburgh.

That lingering bitterness is what turned me off on Sam Adams. I could still taste that nasty in my mouth long after I drank it. That's a big no for me.
Boston lager was first in Munich before Boston and had the approval of Germany because it adhears to the purity law. He is German and this recipe was made w German hops and it isn't identified as any style, its literally its own style of lager. Hence the secret recipe his brewmaster father had from 1860 Im Josh who requested the original BL vid. Tucson Arizona, a town that thrives on crime and drugs primarily. Meth is in highschools now. cheers from Mass, never really a fan myself of sam adams either though I will get their variety packs from time to time for holidays and parties. It feels a bit hoppy now (even though it claims the same ibu still) but it feels like theyre just chasing the bitter ipa trend rather than sticking to their maltier roots. If I wanted a bitter beer id get a pale ale but that being said I never liked either that much. But now a part of me longs for the og one but I guess that ship has sailed.

I opened the bottle not knowing what it was, took a swig and entered IPA heaven.

Let me start off by saying I am a fan of the Sam. I was introduced to it back when it came out and have always put it right up there in my first picks. This new stuff is NOT the Sam I have grown accustomed to. The lingering finish is gone and replaced with a bitterness I do not enjoy. I am sorry, but that is hoe it is for me. I grew up and live in the Boston area about 20 miles north. Like I said, I was there in the beginning, collected many glasses throughout the years, big fan and go get a Murphy's or Blue moon instead. This is a disappointment. If it is not broke, why fix it?

They took a really great beer and ruined it. It now tastes light, has no body, or head when poured into a glass. Three original was my go to lager. I'd rather drink a Narragansett now.
