So how would a power prolonger/masters touch/ focus set featuring amped sword mode stack against an saed or savage axe approach?

For guard points, I usually hold R2 and wait just before the impact to press triangle.
but if you have offensive guard, i think it won't triggered

Yuutsukari Yuzuki As long as you bring your shield up quickly and GP, offensive guard will still proc, allowing you to utilize the most if it with the immediate SAED.

I like timing mine. I don’t like holding R2 cause it doesn’t feel rewarding. Once you get use to timing R2 and triangle right, you’re basically a god

I'm a guy that struggles with guard points and stuff.
Basically I'm a dual blader pretending to be a charge blade
So I still have that bob n' weave mentality ingrained in me from prior titles.
You explaining it was a big help.
3:20 also about a charged shield it boosts phial and raw damage of the charge blade in question if you're in axe mode. Meaning you should always have a charged shield no matter what.
Don't believe me? Morph into axe mode and look at your attack without a charged shield. Then charge your shield and look again in axe mode.
That ps4 noise is actually kinda peaceful. Especially mixed in with the music

It's not worth it, little extra burst damage but you've got to sharpen after around 500 damage.
never came to the idea to even use it like since it just eat ur sharpness so fast
With protective polish and the whetfish+ you get from the events savage axe and overcharge spam is now achievable (at least for the first 60 secs after sharpening :P)

@Vandole man, consider yourself taking the softcore part of it. I find people acting cocky when their teammates fuck up but one 'thumbs up' given by me when they fuck up hard, gets them to explode and kick me out of their sos quest. Then I get to solo what should be for 4 ppl. Shit happens.
I know man. When I see people intentionally running a shitty build, and without wide range for some saving grace, that too on Alatreon or Safi or Kulve servers, and not willing to change for the team, I lose my shit. Do fashion hunting on your own time, don't waste the time of other players.

Finally a charge blade guide that helps me understand which skills to use! I've personally thought that affinity is important in charge blade but because of most guides in youtube saying affinity is a waste just because charge blade phials don't crit. I have another question tho, when the monster is down would you spam savage axe combo or try to spam SAED ?

You have to also remember that there is other guard points out there, the morph slash is just the most accessible one from a stand still

Hi there, new charge blade player here in low rank, absolutely loved the advice u gave, charge blade is by far the most interesting weapon ive ever seen. It intrigues me on such a level that i almost dream about the weapon and the mechanics
I consider myself "semi-casual". I'm mostly playing to have fun but I ALSO want to know how things work so I can kill monsters fast (I'm going to have to look at some more basic tutorials now, seems like there is a lot I do not know). I also really like the charge blade and wanted to know how to use it beyond "charge, discharge, miss, repeat". So thanks for the guide!

When I'm playing with CB users they're either doing most of the damage or the least amount of damage to a monster (unless there's bow/gunners in that lobby). That tells me that learning it is important and you can't just unga bunga with it.
Process some people are so bad with it, or they just spam the fuck out of ultra. It makes me so mad, because i put in so much time learning how to use it properly.

Your video is really good to help new CB users. You’re biggest problem is artillery lvl 5 it’s not needed and there’s a lot of confusion about it. Jin jinx and Tuna covered this by exposing the math. I’m surprised you didn’t fully use there mat regarding artillery. According to them, to make artillery 5 worth it is if you can keep up SAED 100 % of the time. Which isn’t possible. You only need artillery 3. Also you don’t need handicraft because you should be running teostra set. Lastly, elemental CB aren’t good in Iceborne. Impact phial is the best, with blast damage. I hope that if you make future guides you can explain this further.
can someone explain to me why people dont use crit element for impact phial CBs for savage axe gameplay? since phials cant crit anyway what would stop me from using the hydros kardia over the deep terroir II with silver rathalos gear for instance?
Jinx&Tuna said artillery 5 is not worth it. I haven't fully followed their reasoning but things they say usually make sense.

I have a question. How should I make your savage axe sets with only mr armor? I’ve just been using Teo helm, coil, and arms with rimeguard chest and boots. Also it more worth to just go 3 piece Teo or is ele crit that good?
if you want comfort just use 3teo and fit more skills in. Criti element is a nice boost but not that good for Charge Blade (savage axe). Every weapon has different elemental motion values and charge blade is very low, meaning most damage still comes from its RAW.
i think we should note that artillery 5 is kinda a trap. Based on math for it to have a higher efr than artillery 3 you need to do about 50% of your total damage in phial damage with is really unlikely. with teo helm, arms, and belt you can achieve masters touch, and have 1 weakness exploit. the belt is the worst part but is required for master touch. then with Damascus B and yian garuga legs you get focus and crit eye. with just this set you also have 12 deco slots, not including your weapon. with ironside charm 5 you can also get your 5 guard. its bset to watch jin jinx and tuna for their math on it cuz they go more indepth

Doesn't charged shield give 2 levels of guard, same as a guard point? But you only get benefits on odd numbers?
I have to say do not go for artillery 5 for CB it's not worth it the Zorah armor isn't the best using other armor you can have more deco space for better skills and do more damage artillery 5 is always bad on CB and always good on GL and sometimes good with LBG the monster hunter math guys did 2 videos on this and math doesnt lie still I did learn something from this video so good job

Holy crap...I didn’t know about the overcharged sword spam, I didn’t even know that was thing, definitely gonna play around with that
If you haven't tried already. The Rajang Head and Waist are both good contenders if you don't have the Mind's Eye Jewel yet. It allows you to overcharge the sword (and keep fighting) without charging the sword. However... no phial damage bonus which is acceptable playing impact phials, not worth it playing (high) elemental builds. It basically allows you to "bank" a full stack of phials mid-fight while not having to worry once about a bounce -> losing dps.
With the charge blade even skills like earplugs and stun resist carry their weight IF you manage to be on top of the monster all the time and have the proper health regen. You can easily dish out thousands more damage during each fight, IF you can consistently hit the monster and not be toppled every (other) hit. This is something "the average" hunter doesn't really grasp that well. That 5% damage increase isn't worth if with a different build you can hit the monster 10% more often. And a lot of players - for example - run Offensive Guard in multiplayer. That 15% damage increase only lasts for 12 seconds I believe. This skill is god-tier in solo play with the right amount of guard. Yet in multiplayer? On average the up-time is horrible. And you barely gain an average 1-4% increase on your attacks, really situational skill, even with the right play.
But if you can stick to an overcharged build, skills like offensive guard do become more interesting. It is much easier to guard block when you attack with the speed of Sonic. Combine this with some proper SAED's...
Just be sure you're running speed sharpen 3, protective polish, or even razor sharp/true razor sharp (I think it works) as that move devours sharpness and you're relying on phial damage after just a few combos on most weapons. This guide is incomplete at best, and outright wrong at worst, feels like it was cobbled together from someone that watched some speedrun guides and had enough experience to barely use the weapon himself. you'll also still see hit lag if you're running a high crit weapon as crits over a certain amount of damage have a frame or two of hit lag.

@Bradley Phillips How? What was missing from this video? CB is my most played weapon and everything that you need to know about CB is in this video. Minus hit zone values, but that is a topic that relates to every weapon,not just CB.
@Bradley Phillips This guide is very good for beginners in CB, telling how to use, what skills to put in the build and etc. There isn't a correct way to play it, everybody need to masterize your own type of gameplay, and this videos explain many tips on how to get to this point.

Aside for the rant at the end I thought it was a really cool video, I said "aside" because I think that people more often than not try to impose their way of playing to people that don't really care or want to play their way not just inform to people about weak points or what not.
As I said pretty cool guide, I didn't knew a bunch of stuff like that guarding in the right moment gives you a guard point and also charging the shield gives u another point, also a bunch of damage stuff with the saed, anyway good stuff.
Santi Fabra people spam the saed and it makes me sad. Because there is so much nuance to the charge blade that a ton of cb users don’t even use.

Great vid mate, the only thing I thought you missed for basics was the guard points for other moves (triangle spin slash, circle slide slash, end of axe to sword transition and savage axe transition). Those aren’t as readily convenient as R2+triangle but can be useful in a pinch especially for savage axe users who will be spending more time in axe mode. Your discussion about skills and their effects are very informative. Crit eye, zorah set and teostra set skills are underrated for CB.
As a CB Main since launch, I approve this guide. You have definitely done all your research.

I don't think ya'll understand where he is coming from. I've been running Alatreon carry sessions and you will get players that are seeking knowledge and trying to learn the game, we are very supportive of these hunters because they are trying. Then you get the players that say f*** off, I play the game how I want with their meta max blast damage set, while the rest of the team is carrying +1000 ice element. It isn't about having an optimal build, it's about the lack of teamwork mentality. IDeVaste just didn't say it in a nice way.
I must say that there is players who aren't skilled, but try to learn how to play the game, and players who just play for scamm. Even today I eventually enter in random players quests to help them kill Alatreon, but I think they just skip the monsters introduction, because why the fuck someone enter the fight with a Blast Greatsword when it explains this monster must be hunted with elemental weapon, even with Kjarr and Safi elemental weapons been so easy to farm.
So after 600~ uses of CB as main weapon i discovered how to charge the axe. Thanks. Definetly an easy weapon to master.
There are 3 guard points. 1. R2+triangle 2. When youre attacking use the sliding dash forward or backwards( you will see the animation of your shield doing the guard point) 3. While on axe mode just press the R2 to switch back to sword mode and you will notice when you change to sword mode you will see a guard point after switching. Hope it helps.

The only thing I didn't know was that you have faster sword attacks when you are overcharged.
I often see people complaining about speedrunners vs. casuals, but I really don't think that it's a huge debate. I always thought that the mhw community was pretty nice, but I'm not a content creator so I probably see fewer opinions...
TheKurama9 this is because these groups try to impose their way to play the game, I used to do it with my friend(that don’t search too much about the game), but I realized that this is a bullshit action(and he also have many other games to play) , and now I just relax

I love using savage axe mode if I'm hunting solo. Not so much on team hunts with randos. I just feel bad for tripping everyone. Except maybe if I'm with LS users with no regards for their teammates. I love sending them flying with the rising slash!
That rant the end was funny! Although to be fair, I've seen some speedrunners that are dicks and just loves starting flame wars. I mean constructive criticism are fine. In fact they're awesome! But dickheads exists on both side of the speedrunners and the casuals spectrum.
do it anywa, you're doing more damage than they are with savage axe :^)
but what ive noticed, is you can do the element discharge II, but as the animation ends and your character pulls the handle in front of her body, you can press forward and attack and the axe will swing around and do a down attack instead of an upswing, which wont throw your teammates up into the air. it seems to have a unique animation too but im not sure, i didnt see this move in the video tho

Dries Brus yea why do speedrunners always forget its not about how fast you kill a monster but that you also have fun killing it... If I need to choose between an armor piece that has better skills and one that just looks better I almost always choose the one looking better, even tho layered armor kinda solves that dilemma but still...

when i look at that zinogre rating, the ice HZV actually does end up being the highest overall, which is why on zinogre, its shown as 3 star
i think when it shows 3 star it means that its high RELATIVE to that specific monster's OTHER hzvs, not relative to other monsters hzv
Its 3 star if the hzv higher than 20. Doesnt need to compare with its other element hzv

@@peachy7776 No, we have the data miners on PC for this accurate information & Capcom's design of the game. I haven't seen the adjustments made since Iceborne released so these values might have changed when it comes to what number is 3 star weakness. But it's something to look up if you're interested.

The community wasn't like this before. :( I played a bit of MHFu and a lot of MHp3rd. It was a small community but everyone was just trying to help. As world exploded in popularity, well you guys know what happened. 🤷🏻♂️

I mean Im still kind of a noob at MHW as I just picked up the game a couple weeks ago... This is my first MH game and I gotta say the community has been extremely helpful to me when asking for it. Im just now entering some of the master level difficulty stuff now and I still get tons of help and support from the community when asking for it.
@@boshy2376 Quite honestly, I've been with this game since March of 2018 & the only elitists I ever find are the Pro's who don't want someone not running a max DPS set outshining them. I also can't count the times they'd join a quest, get carted once, then leave the quest or they'd get carted multiple times while you were helping them on a quest & then kick you if you tried joining their quest to keep helping them after they failed the last one by taking all the carts available or when the end screen showed up saying that a casual was the damage dealer (haven't seen Damage Dealer pop up at the end of a quest since Iceborne came out).
While I agree with your rant at the end, making that cringy imitation voice and going off on a tangent isnt going to convince any of the players you are referring to. If you had talked about it in a calm manner it would be far more convincing.

I'm torn to what the most complicated weapon is--HH or CB. After learning from this guide I'm convinced that HH is the more headache-inducing weapon to use (pun intended). The amount of multitasking and queuing up the most efficient attacks WHILE queuing up songs, playing encores and performing songs WHILE evading the monster is just so confusing. In CB you just have to learn the right sequences, and GP is at most the skill mastery needed. As much as I want to master HH, CB is just more rewarding and most fun to watch and use.
Using the extend all melodies song list makes hh very easy. Play all your songs, then spam echo notes and play the one song every few minutes.
IG needs to be in that list a well, it's two weapons in one that makes you micro manage what amounts to an NPC to use it to it's fullest. CB used in a speedrun setting is actually pretty simple and that's obviously what he's been doing, IG, HH, and most ranged weapons are far more technical than the little 3 move combo string that you use with a basic CB technique.

Ah yes if I combine them then I can use the momentum to increase the damage. If I use my mass with gravity and use the energy from the earth I can unleash an amazing explosion. By my calculations this should work.

JinJinx and Tuna put out a video a while back showing that on Charge Blade, Artillery Secret is actually not a good build (mostly because the Zorah Magdaros armors aren't that good). I understand that it's hard to edit an old video with updated information, but maybe it's worthwhile to add a video annotation or something in the description with a correction? Especially with the rant about doing research at the end, it doesn't make much sense to ignore existing research in favor of just opinions. Very informative video overall though, I didn't know about overcharge beforehand.
Artillery 5 is perfectly fine, Math on paper is not gameplay. Especially on the new dante charge blade with so much sharpness you really dont need master's touch. what jinjinx and tuna said was very theoritical and mathematically correct but not always true depending on the playstyle. Especially if you are bad at cb and miss the saed Meelees.
@@IDeVaste Worth noting that if you unga bunga SAED, you're still doing non-phial damage when you're charging your phials with sword hits so it's not just about missing the SAED melees. That said, at the end of the day the EFR difference isn't that large so it doesn't matter, but it would be cool if you put out a research video of your own showing Artillery 5 is better in real gameplay.
