Thank you for creating these videos. One suggestion, when you introduce a formula out of the blue it can be very confusing. Maybe a reference would be nice.
so you explained what happens when a light hits a mirror, substance boundary and lense. What is missing: how do you detect that the ray has hit something? I am guessing that this is related to the time stepping vs event-driven simulation.
You could be doing some these animations and/or showing examples of a real physics engine driven ray simulator written in pure Julia called DynamicalBilliards.jl. It can do refraction as well as ray-splitting.
This isn't even just a class on raytracing, it's a great explanation of every concept in-between! Thanks for this!
I have a feeling Pi will show up in surprising ways
16:55 Where did this equation come from? Does it follow from the foregoing? Or is it some new equation that was pulled out of a hat (pun intended)?

ray hit is detected by solving a quadratic equation in terms of time step t. Can have no hit, or 1, 2 hit position according to the equation solution.

I wonder if James is a real human or a virtual creature.
All due respect, I still wait for Grant here
Grant is awesome, but James's video is also great
@@oghry I would like a paraphrase, I am waiting for Grant while quite enjoying James.
Why would you even need to coment this? The amount of time this guy made to give you education for free and you have to make rude comments
