  • Dottie, Reba and Buck Rambo compose the gospel trio, The Rambos. Dottie penned most of the songs the group sang. They were very popular in the 1960's, 1970's and 1980's. Many hymnals today include songs written by Dottie. The trio were pacesetters in gospel harmony, inverting harmony as necessity when the melody got too high for the lead singer. This way of singing had not usually been done before The Rambos. Today it is done all the time. Build My Mansion Next Door to Jesus was one of the Rambos most well-known songs.

She certainly deserves a special place in heaven. Was kicked out by her father at age12 because she wanted to sing Christian music. But through all her trials, her faith never faltered. what a testimony!

I grow up in the rural area, listening and singing these songs, so thrilled that I can still enjoy them today. I am forever grateful to Jehovah for preparing that mansion for me and all who will stay faithful to Him. RIP Dottie, see you on the other side of Jordon.

I remember, as a child, the Rambos coming to our church in Ohio. I was always fascinated by Dottie's deep voice, Reba's ability so scale any note thrown at her and Buck's smooth sound. They brought the music alive and put their hearts and souls into it. These videos are priceless, and something I thought I'd never see or hear again. I'm 46 yrs old now and I can still hear Reba belting out "Build My Mansion" from their live album. God bless them for what they've contributed to gospel music.

I love the Rambos but it's really hard to believe that there was a time (in the
70's or 80's?) when these outfits were considered okay. I think Dottie Rambo has written some of the most beautiful songs in gospel music and, of course, she and Reba and Buck could flat tear up the songs. I hated it when this family no longer performed together.

I have always loved Dottie, even from the time I was just a little boy, about 9 years old, and the first time I ever heard her singing. :-) I actually met her in person once before too. She placed her hand on my right shoulder and smiled, and told my Mama, that God's hand was on my life. She's up there, making heaven's bells ring, I'm certain of it! :-)

I've never understood the obsession with "mansions" in Southern gospel music. Maybe the poverty of rural communities led them to assume that heaven is just dripping with gold and mansions, diamond encrusted harps, etc. Especially considering it seems completely at odds with the central theme of Jesus in the Bible of GIVING UP material desires.
