I didn't try to die, i thought about it, but i knew it was impossible, tbh i didn't even know how the game over screen looked like until my second playthrough on the switch where i tried to fight Jevil
I'm going to rant about this, because not only is this orchestration REALLY well done, but this song in general is a masterpiece. Susie is a tormented character who clearly fought her way through life up until this point. She's aggressive, scares everyone off, and holds her ground with the tough front. That's conveyed in the tense, anticipation riddled atmosphere from the very beginning of the piece (0:00 to 0:32) all the way to the break of the beat. Then it's the intimidation act, the baring of teeth that she's always used to keep herself safe. As the song goes on, though, there's a new line of passive instruments that allude to how she feels under all that anger. 1:06 shows the first hint of being sorrowful, but the main carry is still enraged. The tune soothes at 1:31 for the bridge but again, not really sad, just kind of tense. 2:00, beat kicks back up, things are extremely tense again- then 2:14 (chills) the piano comes in with those dramatically melancholic measures, and then the strings at 2:27 along with the climax up to more intense (chills again) brass is just pure fucking heartbreak. It’s miserable, sad, but violent because she doesn’t know how to let herself feel hurt like this. She doesn't know how to get it out of her system. The snare and drum line kick in at (3:03), conveying her front going back up- but we know better, _she_ knows better. She's hurting, and she doesn't really want to hurt her friends.
You've really mastered the sound of the Cajon on this one. If there was ever a 3D remastered version of Deltarune, this is what I want to hear in it! An amazing arrangement with a fantastic utilization of the percussion and patterns. Though it was a bit cluttered near the bridge to the ending, the variation of chords and choice of instrumentation really pulled some heartstrings. Also congrats on 20k!
Man, the moments when the name appears in screen... Just, MAN THEY'RE PRICELESS Opinion of the song: First of all, the intro was something amazing (and the footage was very clever) just like your other orchestrations that have intros. It sets up the emotion that the song wants to share. The percussion is amazing and if you use headphones, it feels like if it's made right next to you. The overall instrument mix is pretty smart and is able to represent the fury and deception of Susie without even needing hard-heavy-metally rock, wich is hard to do. You truly are gifted.
I first found out about Deltarune by stumbling across the GTLive playthrough (while it was streaming). Without bothering to watch it, I immediately went to check if the soundtrack was available, purchased it, and started listening to it. I heard many of the tracks before finding out what they were used for in game. From my first go-through, Vs. Susie was my favorite track; despite the heavy rock feel, I could feel real emotion and character in it (as I expected from a Toby Fox piece). I later played through the game; when I got to the Susie vs. Lancer scene, I finally got a chance to hear the piece within its context. And I remember my first thought being, "I'd can't wait to hear what the Second Narrator does with this." The brass comes out on top in this piece, keeping the heavy feel of the original while adding the serene affect only an orchestra can provide. The harpsichord in the back really impressed me; I feel it added energy to the parts it was featured. But what inspired me the most wasn't the instrument usage. It was the pauses--the few places where you pulled back all but a few instruments (most notably pausing the percussion) and thereby added to the weight of the piece as a whole. This surpassed my expectations by far. Thank you. Also, it's about time the cajon got used seriously in an orchestral arrangement. That instrument is seriously under-rated.
I think you should do this style more. I think your Battle Against a True Hero Orchestrated was the best piece of music from you right now because of one thing. It stuck to the style of the original all while adding your own flavor to it. You kept the grand feeling throughout the song and kept it soft when it needed to be. You also made your own spice to it which was amazing. I think this piece demonstrated that mentality a lot. I think your "The World Revolving" suffered as a result of the overall feel of it being nothing like the original which was chaotic but also harmonic. Same goes for your "Chaos King". They are not bad at all and are still fun to listen to and I appreciate the effort you put into them but I think sticking to this style of adding more to the original is what created a really good remix. Once again, I'm a huge fan and I only hope your music always gets better.
This is by far my favorite track from Deltarune Chapter 1. I always knew the style of cover best suited to it would be Metal and anyone who attempted to have an Orchestral cover would have to make it really stand out. And I was just waiting for you to be the person to do that, and you have done exactly that and still managed to blow me back in the process, awesome work as always!!!
Jesus Christ as soon as you reach the catch at the beginning you are just hit with a fast paced tempo, creating a sort of heroic theme compared to what other artist do. This point of view that you’ve added to her character is extraordinary and different from most choices I’ve seen with her theme. Most people go for a villainous theme or sort of base oriented, you go for the full authenticity of her character and who she will be as a monster and a hero!
Okay, this is your best arrangement yet. I love how you don’t just move the notes around or stick to the original soundtrack; you make it your own, and it sounds so cool! You can really feel the intensity of the battle in this arrangement. Susie’s anger and how betrayed she feels shines through right here. She’s frustrated, but hides it behind a malicious smile. You can really feel that in the original track, and you can _especially_ feel it here. All around 10/10!
I thoroughly enjoy your orchestral covers always! This one is certainly no different, I love the spin you took on it. One of the best things you do that I wish more music artists did is Explain their music/covers! I like how you give detail saying why you did what you did for a song, it helps me out as an inspiring music artist. Great cover of a great song! Keep up the amazing work!
Oh. My. Goodness!!! I knew that somehow, you would make this work, and I'll be hanged if it doesn't! It was a fantastic track, and somehow the heavy metal converted to instrumentation made it so much better!! Looking forward to seeing this complete, and thanks for listening to the fans; not many do.
