I just made my own version of these a couple days ago with .25cal slugs. I used 26.9gr nsa slugs and put brass tips from h&n crow magnum pellets in the slugs hollow point tips. Had no idea anyone produced slugs that are metal tipped.
I like the concept. There's a lot of good ideas that went into creating this airgun. However, it seems it still has some refinement required to make it more reliable and get full performance from the cartridges

@@CovertGEGN1Any cartridge gun (even a 22) for self defense is probably better than this gun but it seems designed specifically for those place a firearm isn't allowed or for those that can't legally obtain a firearm. They don't fire randomly, although I understand your concern. I had the same concern until using this for almost a couple years now. It's more reliable than you think once you learn to lube the burst discs. They don't go off for no reason either, and if there was a failure it would hiss air out the back rather than firing a projectile.
It's like a really big air powered Derringer. Makes my Bond Arms look tiny. I kinda figured it was going to have air charged cartridges. There was a company importing and selling... I think it was a PCP replica of an old Springfield Trapdoor. It had cartridges you would fill with compressed air and add a projectile to do, then load them in one at a time. Looked really cool, but I think the company importing them went under. Don't know if they're made anymore. There are compressors that run on 12VDC, and can be hooked up to your car battery. You were probably shooting low because the hard trigger will cause you to pull the gun down as you fire. I can't say for sure, but it did look kind of like your barrel did dip a little before you shot each time.
If this air cartridge concept were incorporated into a pump action style like a shotgun, I’d definitely buy. The only company I’ve seen do this before or similar would be Innovairtech with their MAC air rifle.
I like the power but just a little too much work for such a small airgun and with only 2 shots. Not bashing ( with all due respect ) but I'll take my chances on C02 pistols with the capability to shoot 8-10 shots at a time with .177 hornets 😅
nice but... they couldn't think of a better way to indicate it's charged except using a disc that is technically in the process of failing??? I was already wondering about the structural integrity of the air cartridge as that is obviously a potential disaster if it isn't very tough. This bulging disk is not just a poor choice, IMO, it's actually negligent design because it is reasonably foreseeable that it will fail. Thank you for your continuing service to the airgun / less lethal community. You are a gem.
there is a cool 3D printed revolver shotgun prototype out there called the Liberator 12K zig zag revolver shotgun. with very little modifications, i could totally see it shooting these PCP cartridges.
Thanks for the great review. The Defender series has always had reliability issues. Did you test what the performance is at 4500 psi instead of 5000 psi. I think that 5000 is too high and a prime source of failures. Thanks again.
Very good question and point. The maker suggested to actually fill it to 5500 PSI. But it’s just too hard with the hand pump. With the compressor I brought them to 5000, but in all honesty I think I was filling them to around 4500 when pumping in the Everglades. My pump turned out to be pretty shitty, so I really recommend a good quality hand pump for this… I also think the ammo was a tad to big for the barrel… thanks again!!
Hi my friend! You can always find all links in the pinned comment of every video. This compressor is technically a 4500psi one, but you can push it to 5000
I have considered the pre-charged cartridge concept before, but his is the first practical one I've seen. I know this is a first generation of this tech, but I see it being embraced by airgun designers in the future. I can see more efficient revolvers and autoloaders in various calibers coming. If they get too good, I can see PCP getting regulated by the ATF at some point. Watch...
There was a company that imported a number of oddball PCP guns from who knows where... they went out of business years ago. One product they carried was a PCP Springfield Trapdoor Rifle, and it used precharged cartridges. It came with a number of cartridges, which fit into a charging rack. You attach your compressor to it, and it'll fill 3 or 4 cartridges at one time. Then you just add a .357 cal slug and load it into the rifle, just like it was an old 1873 Springfield Trapdoor.
they are in Canada... were surprised you guys dont call em firearms only because they Can do the same damage as some firearms....I had to severely modify my .22 to get the pellets passed 800 fps..... they go through more plates then that thing...... so I figure its a gimmick to sell proprietary ammo... meaning peopl will always have to buy from them whatever the cost.. :-\ oh ps. at 5000 psi at 30 cal will drive a lead pellet through 8 2x4's so this is a gimmick to sell a sub 500 fps air gun lol.
Hi my friend, good point! But I think the main issue here is the hard trigger. It makes it hard to stay on your target, no matter what you’re using to aim.
Thank you! The one and only shot that I chronographed doesn’t really say anything. One needs to shoot multiple shots thru the Chronograph in order to have proper readings and results… I’m sure I would’ve got bigger numbers had I taken more shots. But I honestly had no more energy left in me that day
Another great vid with something new. But, this gun requires way too many steps to shoot just a couple of rounds, but seems pretty powerful. I'll stick to my Umarex HD 50 T4. Simply insert the co2 click to activate, and shoot away. Thanks for this new update!
Be careful with those umerex airguns. I had the same model explode sitting next to me on my workbench last summer. I was unharmed, but the schrapnel destroyed my laptop, and a 50 inch TV.....
Was it hot in your shop where the co2 exploded, these co2 cartridges can't be in heat over 120 Degree, I was just wondering. I keep mine on my desk, I may have to reconsider.
@@humor62 I'm in California, and it was a summer day, but no hotter than 100 degrees. The cartridge itself didn't explode, but the cartridge housing, the threaded cap, and the back half of the grip blew into pieces. The cartridge itself went completely through the laptop screen, and the rest of the parts destroyed the TV. Gotta be honest, it scared the shit outta me when it blew, lol...
My absolute pleasure and thank you so much for watching!

Excellent video as always. I enjoy your channel very much. I have version one of this when it first came out. The barrels were loose and wobbly in the frame. That would greatly effect accuracy. I had to wrap a little electrical tape around the barrels to snug them up a bit. I have never fired it. There is no way of knowing if the loaded air cartridges have leaked out the air until it is fired. If this airgun was needed to defund oneself and the air leaked out, not good 😂
The bulge in the burst disc indicates if it still has a full air charge. You can easily see that by opening the frame, which you should do before carrying.
Hey Jon, great to hear from you! Quite innovative indeed, first time I ever saw this technology. Looking fwd to see how it further develops… and best of luck with your channel! Thank you as always!
The Design and Concept of Both the Pistol and Ammo have Serious Potential. I think that if the Right People focused on just the Air Cartridge and Redesigned it and made it Totally Dependable, then it could be Safely carried for Active Self Protection. Thanks for the 411.
For a self defense tool i think a hard trigger is fine, and accuracy for close range would be fine as well. I suspect you could do some home tuning for a great tool. Great video that answers all questions.
I'm 68 yrs old and I luv the new air guns, Ive had airguns sInce I was 12 yrs old and got my first within which was the pump action gun . Pump it about about 20 times and could see the BB come out. Lol Today's air guns are awesome I would have a whole collection of these new air guns if I could afford it.
@@AirgunAlley Your very welcome, Gian. I read a comment one day from one of your subscribers who called you Gian so I thought I would give it a shot and they were right! 😆👍
Thanks for another great video I wouldn't trust that platform for self defense it seems those cartridges always leak. I will stick with my gk1 hey what compressor do you have that goes to 5000 psi? Thanks😊
Hey thanks so much Vinny, truly appreciate it! I’m on my phone now and unable to copy and paste - but I put a link (with discount) in the pinned comment of this video. It’s towards the bottom. If not here it is on Amazon amzn.to/42S4NIP It says 4500 psi, but the gauge goes up to 6000. When I fill to 5000 psi I do it in a couple sessions. Let it rest a bit before pushing into the red
Hahaha! When compressors were giant, complicated and costed a fortune! Yuuup! Now you get one for 200 bucks that you plug in the wall, switch on/off and it’ll last you a year or two
whats stopping me from carrying my 4.5 or .177 remington navy replica single action chambers 6 but i lost two of what i had so i really could do the john wayne load twice
Can I store PCP air guns with their tanks full for a long time (like weeks or even months) without having to worry about it exploding or degrading?? I mean the conceal carry and self-defense aspect of this would make 0% sense if you need to empty it when not in use but I just want to clarify things since I'm trying to get my first air gun.
The disc acts like a primer, except instead of creating a indentation, it makes a hole rapidly for the gas to escape in uniformity to send the projectile. I'm terrible at explaining things but that's the purpose
Ok, so am i the only one who's going to point out the rounds turned completely backwards in the ballistic gel? The point looks good, but even on the boards, it would appear as if the bullets were tumbling.
The design looks very similar to the Detonics Gladiator from the first or second generation - a modern Czech-made percussion deringer. A completely unique weapon, with a similar purpose, they just went about it in a different way. The likeness is so big that I thought it was about him. :)
I actually like it. Yes, it’s a 2 shot and that’s all you got type of weapon. In an altercation, this gives you a chance to escape/evade, or a small snickers break to figure out what to do. Or, maybe a chance to close the distance for a clinch if it’s a must. It’s an option. I love options. So, pick your poison wisely fellas....
Important question you never discussed. Since the gun above is .68 caliber, would it be ok to shoot nylon or kinetc rounds instead of pepper rounds and if not why? What damage could be done? I'm not saying heavy aluminum but mere nylon or kinetic rounds from say Byrna? Please get back to me. Great video by the way.
Hi there! Just caught your comment… this gun only comes .in 35 or .45 cal (min 2:20). Also this has rifled barrels, so you’d want to use pellets or slugs with it. Hope this helps
Carrying around 2 little metal hand grenades holding back 5,000 psi seems a little terrifying. I mean, I would never carry any gun...I barely tolerate carrying around a cell phone. But the idea of having two little bombs tucked into my waistband scares the crap outta me.
I don’t recommend the one I bought. It’s in the 70$ range and I think once should spend more for a high quality one. Or you’ll be huffin and puffin and breaking your back every time you fill up your gun
It may have been able to go through 2 trays if you would have shot center but near the edge it's a lot more strength. Do a reshoot and shoot center tray target.
I was really thinking about buying this gun but after seeing this video it turned me off. It's described to have eliminated the same old issues but obviously not yet fixed. I'll stick with my s45 mini for now. Thanks
Great vid. Where's the shot string? Kidding. What a workout! ... it is quite anti-climactic when you pump 40 times and the thing blows out the back. Thank you for suffering through that.

AEA has a double barrel version that is pretty nice.
That electric pump you have is made for filling in the field. It’s set up for battery power too.(car) at least in the one I got that’s the same model.
Why they dont make pcp air reservoir in the handle like co2 guns?
I like the power but just a little too much work for such a small airgun and with only 2 shots. Not bashing ( with all due respect ) but I'll take my chances on C02 pistols with the capability to shoot 8-10 shots at a time with .177 hornets 😅
How long will the cartridges maintain most of their air pressure?
nice but... they couldn't think of a better way to indicate it's charged except using a disc that is technically in the process of failing??? I was already wondering about the structural integrity of the air cartridge as that is obviously a potential disaster if it isn't very tough. This bulging disk is not just a poor choice, IMO, it's actually negligent design because it is reasonably foreseeable that it will fail. Thank you for your continuing service to the airgun / less lethal community. You are a gem.
there is a cool 3D printed revolver shotgun prototype out there called the Liberator 12K zig zag revolver shotgun. with very little modifications, i could totally see it shooting these PCP cartridges.
Very interesting piece of equipment. great review. thanks man.
Thank YOU, my friend!!
Great in depth and honest review
Thanks for the data brother. Saves a lot of time and frustration 👍🏽
Thank you my friend! Truly appreciated 🙌🏼🙏🏽
Is this weapon legal to carry loaded in a vehicle
?
I assume that would depend on what state you live in.
It's not a gun, so you would follow any laws regarding pellet guns, more than likely there's no laws about it
@@nightmarestitcher Never underestimate California
Hi my friend! I see you already got some answers, which are all very accurate. It all depends on your local laws… good luck!
What compressor are you using to get 5000psi? Could you please provide link?
Hi my friend! You can always find all links in the pinned comment of every video.
This compressor is technically a 4500psi one, but you can push it to 5000
I have considered the pre-charged cartridge concept before, but his is the first practical one I've seen. I know this is a first generation of this tech, but I see it being embraced by airgun designers in the future. I can see more efficient revolvers and autoloaders in various calibers coming. If they get too good, I can see PCP getting regulated by the ATF at some point. Watch...
Hi Johnathan, all very good points and I much agree with you on all of them
There was a company that imported a number of oddball PCP guns from who knows where... they went out of business years ago.
A British company called 'Brocock' made pre charged cartridges, and was banned because it was considered easy to convert to live fire.
BROCOCK did this in the 80s but for 177 and 22 cal... this is not a new concept.
Imagine if they made those shells to fit in a 12 gauge pump action shotgun such as a Remington 870
So the problem is that it is always leaking some by design & you never really know if it’s mostly empty because you have no gauge.. ?
I love your channel and your acting. Also love this new gun!
That’s what I’m talking about! Good morning brother!
Good morning my old friend!! Glad you’re linking this 😎
Noticed everything is shooting very low. I suppose a laser or a red dot sight will be an adequate fix.
Hi my friend, good point! But I think the main issue here is the hard trigger. It makes it hard to stay on your target, no matter what you’re using to aim.
Oh, Brother. Are you about to send me down a whole new rabbit hole? ;)
Impressive power for an air pistol
That is way too much drama to fire that. From myself, I am thankful that you showed me how challenging that one is.
kudos! my question: how does one get the 60 joules they say this gun can reach?
Thank you! The one and only shot that I chronographed doesn’t really say anything. One needs to shoot multiple shots thru the Chronograph in order to have proper readings and results… I’m sure I would’ve got bigger numbers had I taken more shots. But I honestly had no more energy left in me that day
I'd imagine that would be an excellent self-defense tool if you're attacked by balloons.
Could this thing really compare to the air ringer? In self defense terms?
Very good question! I’ve only tried this one so far, so I can’t really say….
First video of yours I've watched. I enjoyed it very much. Very informative, and well put together.
You earned my subscription.
Well thank you sir, much appreciated!
@@thephotoviper , can ask if you had the co2 activated or pierced when it blew? Or just in the housing non activated?
@@humor62 activated. The part that failed, was the threaded sleeve that the cap screws on to. It is made from cheap cast iron.
Enjoyed a lot of your videos. Thanks fir the humor and information. This is an interesting pistol.
Sam, I really can’t thank you enough and tell you how much I appreciate your words, and for your kind donation! Truly thank you from deep down!!
Thanks for making these videos. I think these devices are pretty cool 😎.
If this airgun was needed to defund oneself and the air leaked out, not good 😂
Thanks so much for your hands on input and for your kind words! Truly appreciated my friend
The bulge in the burst disc indicates if it still has a full air charge. You can easily see that by opening the frame, which you should do before carrying.
Heyup chap, quite an innovative pistol, looks like a potential too much fun gun 😁 all the best for 2024 cheers buddy, Jon 👍 Hawkes Eye TV 👍🇬🇧😁
Hey Jon, great to hear from you! Quite innovative indeed, first time I ever saw this technology. Looking fwd to see how it further develops… and best of luck with your channel! Thank you as always!
Nice video as always. Cool pistol. Not legal here. Keep up the good work. Cheers from your friend in Norway 😃
Thank you Maestro! I’m not surprised of it not being legal in Norway, 5000psi squeezed in 3,5cc is a lot of power!
Yes its a powerful pistol. The trigger was quite hard also wasnt it? Not for me I guess. Cheers my friend 😃@@AirgunAlley
The Design and Concept of Both the Pistol and Ammo have Serious Potential. I think that if the Right People focused on just the Air Cartridge
and Redesigned it and made it Totally Dependable, then it could be Safely carried for Active Self Protection.
Thanks for the 411.
Great video, thanks for posting.👍👍👍
Howdy my friend!! Thank YOU for watching and for your kind words!
"Eye want to make some magic for You".....Hilarious!!!....The Genie ride out when He see the Gun....lol!!!
For a self defense tool i think a hard trigger is fine, and accuracy for close range would be fine as well.
I suspect you could do some home tuning for a great tool.
Great video that answers all questions.
You perform a great service sir!
Thank you so much! Greatly appreciated
And.....they still haven't fixed the misfire dud issue on them.
Power seems same or weak as AEA 2nd defender.
Great video. Very informative, thank you.
Thank YOU! I’m glad you enjoyed it 🙌🏼
Where can you buy it? Or order it? Anyone have that information?
Check out the airgun tactical website and try contacting them…. Good luck!
Great video buddy happy new year
Thanks a lot man! You too!
Good video! How much energy does the pistol deliver with the pellets your using? How does it compare with other firearm pistols?
It's 45 fpe with the .357 and 50 fpe with the .457
I'm 68 yrs old and I luv the new air guns, Ive had airguns sInce I was 12 yrs old and got my first within which was the pump action gun . Pump it about about 20 times and could see the BB come out. Lol Today's air guns are awesome I would have a whole collection of these new air guns if I could afford it.
How does the firing mechanic work? Is it a hammer strike, or does the firing pin just push against the rear of the cartridge?
@chadsiewert893 thank you.
Thank you for the review, Gian. 🤔 I think your name is Gian. Cool little gun. Love your videos bro. 👍😎
Thank you so much Alan!! Yess that’s my name :) and I truly appreciate you 🙏🏽🙌🏼
@@AirgunAlley Your very welcome, Gian. I read a comment one day from one of your subscribers who called you Gian so I thought I would give it a shot and they were right! 😆👍
@@AirgunAlley Oh yes, I'm praying for you as well brother. 🙏😎
If not here it is on Amazon amzn.to/42S4NIP
It says 4500 psi, but the gauge goes up to 6000. When I fill to 5000 psi I do it in a couple sessions. Let it rest a bit before pushing into the red
Thanks for info (bring back the noems)
Hahaha big episode involving evil gnome coming tomorrow 😎
I remember those bike pumps! I feel old. Lol
I mean the conceal carry and self-defense aspect of this would make 0% sense if you need to empty it when not in use but I just want to clarify things since I'm trying to get my first air gun.
would it work better with razor sharp broadhead darts?
makes me wonder if there is some kind of air soft gun that is charged with something like butane
Great Video 💯💥💥💥💥💥💥💥
Thank you so much my friend!!
Interesting video. Thanks for sharing!👍🏽
What I'm wondering is if I could just pre fill say 12 air cartridges and pre load without worrying about the cartridges loosing pressure.
Probably not these things are not reliable between the o rings and the valve inside coming loose I had one, nothing but problems
Make that with the HDS body design would be cool. But I'm confused with the metal disk. They bubble up?
The disc acts like a primer, except instead of creating a indentation, it makes a hole rapidly for the gas to escape in uniformity to send the projectile. I'm terrible at explaining things but that's the purpose
Thanks for sweating it out and your great work.
Ok, so am i the only one who's going to point out the rounds turned completely backwards in the ballistic gel? The point looks good, but even on the boards, it would appear as if the bullets were tumbling.
I wanted to see if itll break glass.. eill it penetrate fiberglass?
Not worth lugging around. I rather Carry a Gerber tactical knife.
It would make more sense to use CO2 to launch the 5k PSI cartridges themselves, with an impact "fuze".
Frack! *_That's_* scary!
Are you intentionally aiming at the bottom on all your shots?
Is the stl file available? Because I have the AEA defender and a 3 d printer.
i conceeal a gk1 but I think im gonna pick that one up too.
🙌🏼🙌🏼
Thats alot of pressure in that little bullet size container ❤😮
Hahaha it really is!
Dude , your killin me , who would want to go through all that work for a toy gun . DANG !!!!
Hahaha don’t shoot the messenger! I’m just an airgun channel overviewing everything airguns :)
"...pretty lethal... less lethal..." LOL
Carrying around 2 little metal hand grenades holding back 5,000 psi seems a little terrifying. I mean, I would never carry any gun...I barely tolerate carrying around a cell phone. But the idea of having two little bombs tucked into my waistband scares the crap outta me.
think this would be great with a shotgun style round clip on a rifle that is semi or full auto in the 9mm pellet
👆🏽🙌🏼
What brand, type, manual air pump?
I don’t recommend the one I bought. It’s in the 70$ range and I think once should spend more for a high quality one. Or you’ll be huffin and puffin and breaking your back every time you fill up your gun
how many pumps it takes to charge them my awesome brother ???
Man, I just love the intro.
Can it use Lehigh ammo ????
Why does it look 3d printed?
Because it is 😂
It may have been able to go through 2 trays if you would have shot center but near the edge it's a lot more strength. Do a reshoot and shoot center tray target.
Great video alot info 👊🏿
Thanks a lot man!! 🙌🏼
I was really thinking about buying this gun but after seeing this video it turned me off. It's described to have eliminated the same old issues but obviously not yet fixed. I'll stick with my s45 mini for now. Thanks
the derringer of air guns ! nice.
Great vid. Where's the shot string? Kidding. What a workout! ... it is quite anti-climactic when you pump 40 times and the thing blows out the back. Thank you for suffering through that.
Cool, but I'll stick with my Gavle 1.5. Thanks for the vid! Very interesting.
Anytime my friend and thank you
I have the same compressor love it !
