It's crazy to me how a city like this can just, persist and function and operate, like people live there, they still get money, they get electricity, they need food, the city needs large amounts of resources every day. Yet it looks like a lawless apocalyptic wasteland. Really surreal. I didn't know it was still this bad. I have been to NJ but only the very north, and though Newark might have some rough parts, I am not sure anywhere looks even close to this bad.
I remember driving past the entrances of certain neighborhoods with my dad when I was a kid. They had armed police officers standing outside of their marked crown vic’s warning people not to enter in 2012/2013. During that time the CPD was disbanded and in the process of getting replaced by camden county police, the city was completely unpoliced and lawless. Cops didn’t enter, and didn’t patrol. The city was policeless. It was f*cking insane. Like a dystopian post-apocalyptic free-for-all. Most dangerous city on Earth in 2012, highest violent crime rate.
How does it compare to Bridgeport or hood parts of New Haven, I have been to hood parts of New Haven and it didn't seem that bad, drove through Bridgeport but don't know what it's like

It's more like a disconnected part of philly since It's literally 5 miles away, although in a different state. Idk I heard Chicago goes hard but Maybe it's one of those "grass is always worse on the other side type deals". Murder rate and drug sales are def high tho.

Camden is the worst but the downtown, waterfront and college areas are pretty nice. NJ cities are cleaning up. It's a process but one thing rings completely true. These cities are filled with good honest working class people that just want a safe place to live and have pride for their neighborhoods.

I'm from Reading. Happened to be in Camden one evening and met up with a homeless guy to find some. And fire it was. I almost drifted into the side of a semi on my drive home. Probably about 6 or 7 years ago. Everything is fent now isn't it? I've been on subs for 6 years.
That changes fron year to year. Bessemer is usually near the top also along with E. St Louis and several others. Camden has consistantly been among the worst small towns since the 80's, at or near the top of the list more than any other small city in all the worst categories. Also Bessener is really small with only 25,000 not really even in the same class with Camden which has about 80,000.
Many of the houses are far from dilapidated. The neighborhood would benefit from the city’s attention to streets, trash removal and demolition of abandoned houses.
I was in Camden to help a friend once (I'm from Reading). A homeless guy saw me nodding off in my car and asked me if I needed anything. I thought "wtf, let's do it." So we met up with his guy and got some real fire. It was just getting dark as we were picking up and I got the hell out of there (I'm an average white guy).
