Thank you so much Claire... I have been struggling for months to try and get a decent bokeh background without spending the rest of the decade working on it. This tutorial was exactly what I needed! Thank you again!
Jack Northart oh cool!!!! It’s always very satisfying to hear I’ve been of some use :) my colouring style isn’t endless layers. You can get perfectly good results quickly with a few tips and tricks 😉❤️🎨
I’ve tried for some time to figure out how to do this, watched many videos, but yours is the first that actually shows the technique. I finally figured out what I’m doing wrong. Thanks for showing me the correct technique, start to finish.
Wow that's awsome. Will definitely use this technique. I am horrible at backgrounds and through your tutorials you have given us some great ideas. I just love all your videos thank you so much
Thank you, your method for this effect is definitely easier that others I've seen & tried. After just a few minutes of watching this video, I liked, subscribed & clicked the notification bell~ I really appreciate your making sure the camera can "see" what you're doing, showing an example of the completed effect before you start (as well as referring back to it now & again), thoroughly explaining the steps & what you're doing, including tips like pencil lead sharpness & pressure, &, finally, your voice is pleasant, calm & well paced (not harsh & rushed) as well. I think I'll consider experimenting with eye shadows as well, to see how that medium might look with this technique : ) My hands are fussy & get tired & sore easily, so I find using eyeshadows & chalk pastels easy on the hands for achieving similar effects. Thanks so much for sharing this technique, I look forward to watching more of your videos!
Thank you so much for doing this! I'm really enjoying your videos. The way you speak...I don't know it just calms me down. And I've been needing a lot of calming down lately lol. So thank you.
This is a fabulous tip, Claire and so fun to do. One of the smarty pants fine artists I follow pronounces it bow-key, but I like the way you say it, lol. Happy Valentines Day and so thankful for you and your channel.
Ça faisait longtemps que je cherchais un tutoriel facile qui m’explique cette technique . Même si ma compréhension de l’anglais est moyenne avec vous j’ai bien compris .Votre coloriage est magnifique. Un grand merci pour ce partage.
Lol...lime peel is of one of my most favorite colors ever!!! Thank you for your videos I’m learning a lot!! I like the way you explain things and I find your videos pretty easy to follow. I like it when you tell us how much pressure to use because I find I’m heavy handed sometimes. I’m kinda new at this. I can’t wait to try your technique here and I love the color palette you chose!! Keep up the good work and I look forward to learning from you!!!
Well that made it so clear! I've watched several colorists doing bokeh and I stared in disbelief, how did they decide where to put in the circles? This made me realize that you pre-think the location of the bubbles first, then proceed. I will attempt to do this again, after a few disappointing trials. Thank you again for your very gentle and sweet approach to coloring!
Patti Graham I’m so glad you enjoyed it! The bubbles don’t have be symmetrical but it does help with placement and planning. Bokeh can be made overly complicated. I find this way I developed the best way to teach so that everyone can have a go.
@@ClaireHoloway you succeeded and made it so much easier for me as well i love these colors together i am going to try to replicate this into a halloween witch picture I am going to start later today Thanks so much again
I just discovered your beautiful work today thank you for sharing your masterful skills with those of us who are learning to improve our coloring skills. Please clarify for me the name of this blending technique
Rochelle Beach I guess there’s no overall name for it as I tend to do my own thing 🙂 but the small circular blending motions are ‘scumbling’ - it’s a way of layering :)
Hanan Kamak white stamps??? I appreciate your feedback but our members find the time and work difficult. This is what it says it is - Bokeh made easy 😉😉
I’m late to your party but it takes a North Eastern lady to demonstrate this technique without any nonsense. Brilliant. 🙏
Brilliant. Best comment of the year so far ♥️♥️😎🙏
Thank you for breaking this down and explaining this in such an easy way to understand. I can’t wait to try this out! This is fantastic. ❤️

Brilliant demo Claire thank you.
Great ideas
How do you pick the colors?
Connie Tang the easiest way to explain is to pick a family of colours of the same shade.
Thank you so much to take time to teach us this technic!
Is it this technic used for the blue door by Rosana Penze who posted recently?
brigitte bertrand I’m so glad you liked it! I’m sorry but I’m not familiar with the other post.
No problem Claire! Your work is astonishing and a precious help to improve!
I
Hi Claire .. this very nice way for this Bokeh effect , but it needs work & time .. so how about the white stamps ؟؟؟
Hanan Kamak white stamps??? I appreciate your feedback but our members find the time and work difficult. This is what it says it is - Bokeh made easy 😉😉
Claire Holoway Colouring yes dear Claire .. I was thinking about use the pastels colors then over it the white ink by the stamped pads

camcab147 you’re very welcome! Building up bokeh layers is far from easy - hopefully this helps make it more accessible xxx
