Because they really want the local kid to workout. As a prospect myself not too long ago, love watching the Canucks growing up but when you under the hockey business, you don’t want to play or sign here. If they mold this player and he becomes something, it’ll change our views of the organization
@@jmalo4537 we all know its not just because he's 'local'. that's not all that uncommon. we have others that they don't make a big deal about. (Juulsen, Heinan, Alcos, Mynio etc) ...they're hoping he's a marketing cash cow.
He was playing well in the AHL and that got him a look, with the hope that an infusion of fresh blood could kickstart the team out of their slump. Sometimes a player gets overwhelmed by the big lights, but it's hard when Vancouver was being carried by the Garland line at that time. Tough spot to find himself in but he didn't do anything to stay with the big club.
@@gordonmacdowell8117 that's just it for me. i can understand no traction if it was individual game call ups. but that was an extended stay with various situations / opportunities. didn't do much. but hey, if he pans out - that's great.
With all the depth players the Canucks brought in, it felt like management felt that nobody was ready to step up to the big league this season and given how shallow the prospect pool is that probably won't change next season either.
@@warshawgameshd3432 the way that management filled out the roster in the offseason was for a team that realizes they still have a bottom third ranked prospect pool in this league and their prospects need at least one more season before any of them are ready to become regular roster players. Lekkeramaki could get called up to cover an injury at right wing (Karlsson might have something to say about that), but he's not likely to take a job from Boeser, Garland, Sherwood, or even Sprong.

Dreaming in your sleep? Sounds fake

Bains had 8 NHL games to show something. 0 points/ 6pim / -5. Why are we still talking about him as some kind of great prospect.

Well he was an AHL all-star and only has 8 games in the NHL. It would be silly to give up on him.

@@nsldsfv1202 The Canucks. They were talking about soccer a couple days ago if this is confusing.
You don't think Lekkeramaki has a shot when he said he was impressed by him playing with petey?
