When you mentioned the internal components being different on these HDMI switches that look the same I couldn't help but think of the "it's got Sony guts" skit from 80's SNL. Anyways I have one of them too and like you stated it can work great w/80% of your devices but it will get 20% A/V dropouts on your other more frequently used inputs (like a DVD/blu-ray player). It's unfortunate that you're rolling the dice every time you buy one.
About the component switch box with more than 3 inputs. Run 2 of the 8in1 composite switches, run audio through one and video through the other. Its the best bang for buck way. It'll cost you around 40-50 bucks. This is the way I've had many of my post n64 pre hdmi consoles for 10+ years.
Another fantastic Q&A Bob! I speak for everyone when i say thanks for your time! ❤
Dude, i thought it was just me who magically has everything malfunction when my friends are over 🤣
Thanks bob

Don't the Wii and the Wii U use the same plug for the sensor bar? (Re: the all-black sensor bar potentially being a Wii U sensor bar.)
Wii and wii u have the same plug.
Wii bar is grey, wii u bar is black.
Wow, I guess you’re right! I was only checking Amazon, but was able to get the right one on eBay. Thanks!
