Brother Ive saved your video a couple months ago because I had the same problem after 3 encoders 2 tccms 1 new buttons and 1 4wd actuator and cleaning the ground but i went back to the ground and found that the strands of wire were black corroded 3inches up into jacketing stripped it way back re attached it and she works 💪 hope you've figured yours out by now but now that my whole system is new hopefully I won't have any more issues with 4wd I should looked into the ground a little better before I threw 600 in parts I didn't even need
I believe you can plug in the new motor, turn on your ignition, and push the selector button to which gear your transfer case is in and that should change the new motor to the same range then bolt it into place
I saw a vid where the encoder motor had a sticker on it "Do not operate when not installed, permanent damage can occur". IDK if all or some of them are like that, but its worth checking. Stay gold.
Yes I unscrewed the cover, lifted out the gear and clocked it to the location the tcase stud was in. The internal contacts of the module are placed in the appropriate position wherever you position the gear. Slip the module back in over the ger and button it up.
Take the old one apart. Then take the selector gear on the TC by itself. Get a pair of channel locks on it and turn it, changing it from 2wd to match the new motor
Ok, when I took my transfercase out it was in 2hi got used the old actuator motor slid right on so I'm guessing it was already in two hi, and is it ok to put it back in the truck in 2hi
You’re supposed to plug it in and select the position you want before install. Otherwise how could people whose truck is stuck in 4wd install the part?
The encoder is right! you have to put your transfer case in nuetral by using the gear from the old one! Its obviosly in four low when you pulled the old one!
Turn key forward to acc. Push the button or turn knob to 4wheel low. Turn key to off, plug in encoder. (both the encoder and switch should be the same). turn key back to acc and then push the button or turn knob for 2wheel high install encoder on case
2004 GMC Envoy transfer case is stuck in neutral. Whats the problem? When i place it in park its a loud grinding noise. I need help bad please. Its my only vehicle and i walk 45 minutes a night and day, 3rd shift back and forth to work. Its just horrible. I took it to 2 shops already. The first one was a transmission shop and they say transmission is fine its electrical. Its at a electrical shop now and they say, Transfer case is stuck in neutral and they cant get it out to see the problem. First thing he said was, " You're missing a motor that belongs with the Transfer case, but the Transfer case is stuck for us to find the problem, so i looked up a used transfercase for $748. Start there and then we can find the problem" I dont have 748, i already owe 102 for diagnosis and thats not counting labor if i did have 748. I honestly think there trying to play me. I think they know whats wrong but want to milk me. It was driving fine until i stopped at red light, then when green, it didn't move. It just reved. No gears work but all move but envoy just revs. If only i can get it out of neutral i just know it'll work. If it electrical than it may be i only need a Encoder Motor, the part that could be missing. Im the one that told him, "Well is it the Encoder Motor missing". and he was kinda shocked say um um umm. I think if its electrical than i can very well only need a Encoder Motor. They probably lied to me just to try to milk me. SORRY FOR SO LONG. Please help🙏🏻.
Hello if anyone is still having this problem just open it up pick up the gear ⚙ with the sensor turn it were your gears are like hi low just but it were your gear case to working from don't worry about it I just fix my and open it up and but it were my broke at hope this help I will try making a video soon
Thanks for this advice! I couldn't get my switch to put it back in neutral and I was scared to change the gear position, but I did it anyway. Slapped it back together and it works flawlessly!
Actually your transfer case is in 2 high but the motor's are shipped in 4high and should have instructions on how to manually turn the transfer case into 4high. Read the instructions always

I got a new one sent to me it bolted right up had no problems with the new one
I hope you saved those old parts... have you seen how hard everything is to get now?
You can change the gear by putting it in neutral and changing the gear on the transfer case with plyers
Are u sure?

After doing this, DONT do this. It screwed the computer up. Ended up swapping back in the old encoder so it had a good neutral and that made it happy.
@@ZoeyTaylor1994 wdym? I just did this too

Yes, the old one has very valuable parts. Especially the main drive gear. Put it in your toolbox.

Did you try turning the spine coming out from the transfer case manually?
How do you do that? I’m about to change mine and don’t want to run to this issue. My truck is stuck in 4lo.
@@brojamessistertrise5289 you take off the adaptor motor and there's a gear behind there in the transfer case
Counter way or clock wise @@davecarlson9584
Pull the black cover off the motor. the power wires for the motor are on top. Add 12v the motor will turn the gear.

@@BenSmith-rf9hb may be too late but it´s possible to unscrew the cover and put it in the right spot. i just did it and worked for me
@@BenSmith-rf9hbit probably didn’t have ground. Run a wire from the actuator to frame or battery
you see that line and set it mark on gear and case inside alien both and check wires they break all the time
Could you open it up and adjust the encoder ring?
So what did you do to fix it? My dad has the same exact problem
Its working with any posicion

Did you figure it out? Having the same problem
Did you figure your problem I'm having the exact same problem
that link shows how to change you have to move the shaft on the transfer case to Matich the position of the new motor manually with pliers
How is this problem fixed?
Its not that hard. Grab a pipe wrench and turn it. Problem solved.
Put a 9 volt battery up to the two wires that run the motor and turn it till it is in 2 H.
some have to be in 4lo change your transfercase to 4lo manually and install motor
