Many constructors of the Flying Flea lost their lives before the kit was banned. Mostly because of unsuitable engine choice. It was originally intended to use a small motorcycle engine. Also the airflow between the wing and tailplane was disturbed when in a steep decent, causing spiral dives into the ground. You need big balls to fly one of these, that's for sure.

F22 raptor is specialised in plane vs plane (air to air) combat, where as Euro fighter is for everything (Air vs Air, Air vs land and Air vs sea), then the F22 raptor can fly about 20ft above the floor without any problems of crash landing which is good, give the plane a biscuit, but the Euro fighter which is almost 30 years older has been known at air displays to fly about 3 - 4 ft off the ground at high speeds and sometimes if the pilot is mad enough can fly upside down with the tail just 2 inches off the floor... so F22 raptor... over priced piece of shit. basically all it is, is just stealth panels with an engine which americans keep saying we'll never be able to get a plane that can beat the F22 raptor at flying in stealth, but they're wrong there as im sure the Euro fighter if we replaced all its panels with stealth panels which can be done easily, would easily beat it as most people when they spot a Euro fighter, its already about 500miles away from where you saw it. as for the F22, because its so big, you can always see it and hear it.. hell even a spit fire would beat it or one of the french planes from WWI because they were able to fly extremely low at slow speeds, so slow that the F22 raptor would be going to fast to get a lock on, or if it slowed down to match their speed, it would drop as its too heavy. so basically all america has done is made it then claimed its the best because its american and nothing in america ever fails (apart from corvette, xbox, microsoft, Chevrolet, hummer and a few other things).. nothing from america fails according to americans... they even claim their abrahams to be the best tank ever but russia has them beat at that and basically any british, french or german guy knows that if theres a Big tank sat firing and you want to sneak up on them, simply get people to sneak up on it while its in artillery firing mode, don't open fire on it but simply, take a grenade, sneak around the front, wait till is fired a round, pop the pin and roll the grenade down the barrel, then run like fuck.

This is a great plane! One important element that everyone who flies/drives/operates any vehicle with safety belts must know is that ALL shoulder straps must be anchored ABOVE your shoulders! If they are anchored below your shoulders then in a crash, or even a profound stop, the straps will at the least compress your spine. At worst, it could crush your spine. So please always be certain to have them anchored higher than your shoulders. If your vehicle doesn’t have any structural elements that you can anchor them to up high, then you might need to add a roll bar that can raise the anchor points.

There is a great paperback. "The world's worst aircraft" The Flying Flea has a chapter all to its self. The aerodynamics are just beyond awful. The close coupled wings could aerodynamically lock the aircraft into a dive from which there could be no recovery. There were attempts to rig them more conventionally - the Mignet plans calling for an all moving wing to control pitch and rudder to control yaw/roll a bit (ugh) - but those that staggered into the air looked like the one in the video. Not really flying just moving through the air. They were banned in many countries I think.
designed by henri Mignet who was perhaps the father of home built aircraft. He wrote a book and provided plans. Some builders died...... In a dive the top wing can blanket the tail with a loss of control. Some builders were saved because there were few engines available (in the early 30s0 which could drag the machine into the air.
julian gould I have one of the original hardback book of plans. It's by Henri Mignet. It's a classic piece of prose as well as full instructions to make one.
@@sky_professor3051 That's because it's using a German engine that was designed by a guy named Ferdinand in about 1925 (or earlier). I recognize it - I have two sitting in my garage.
These are actually really hard to stall. The front wing angle of incidence is higher that the rear wing, so it stalls first and drops the nose before the rear wing can stall.
ce meck est terible audacieux courageux tres fort il a tous les ingrédients pour piloter son propre coucou la musique de la soupe aux choux ses super j aime beaucoup chapeau bas !
The Rutan homebuilts of the 1970's used a cannard arrangment in which the horizontal tail was on the front and the wing at the rear. The most popular of these was the Long Eze. Most of them used a foam fiberglass composite structure. Also, there was a plywood cannard homebuilt design from France, but I think I read that it isn't marketed in the U.S.A.
@@davidcash7543 Yes, the Rutan planes are the only others that I know of that are similar. But even they are distinct because the forward wing is so small. The forward wing on this airplane is definitely not a canard. Both wings are fully wings, while the rear one doubles as the horizontal stabilizer, is unique, as far as I know.
@@deezynarAs far as I know, you are correct and it is unique. The only possible example of anybody else putting a full wing at the rear that I can think of is the Langley Aerodrome from the early days of aviation, and it was really a failure anyway. Years ago, somebody designed an ultralight that had forward and aft wings joined at the tips to form sort of a diamond shape, but it seems to have died with the designer, and it would be a whole new concept anyway. I don't study such things like I did as a teenager, but it seems to me that there was some kind of control issue with the early Flying Fleas that had more to do with the way the forward wing changed pitch than the tandem wing arrangement, but I'd have to look that one up. A now defunct Canadian homebuilt plans business used to sell updated plans for the Flying Flea. But you probably know more about that than I do.
@@davidcash7543 I know almost nothing about this stuff myself except that it's an intriguing design. I did a little research, but nothing that makes a person an "expert" though. I'll list a few details that I learned, just for the record. It has no ailerons. Both wings have dihedral, so when the rudder is swung, the wing tips on the outside of the turn rise. The rear wing is fixed, and has no control surfaces at all. The entire front wing pivots, and that is the elevator control. The original design had a flawed feature that caused the plane to nose dive in some conditions. It was something that a pilot who knew what to do could recover from, but enough people were building them and dying, that folks decided to put one in a wind tunnel to see if the problem could be designed out, and they did. Planes built to the improved plans are safe when operated within their limits. One flight characteristic that can't be removed from the design, is that without ailerons, it is not good for cross wind take offs, and landings, on typical narrow runways. I heard that some plans are available that produce unsafe planes, so a person has to be sure to get plans that are recommended by folks who have flying experience in Fleas.
What a fantastic video. It showes that the thrill, romance and love of flying is still live and well.

So please always be certain to have them anchored higher than your shoulders. If your vehicle doesn’t have any structural elements that you can anchor them to up high, then you might need to add a roll bar that can raise the anchor points.
He looks like he has the spirt of man for freedom just thank were we are to day in aviation , cars . boats, and electronics and so much more.
We owe a det of thanks to those with the spirt to try as he may have build this aircraft base on old date it still made it work and so many in the past paid with there lives or came close at times, some were made to look like fools and others made history.
If you never try you will never fail and if you never fail its possible you will never have susess and make history .
Thanks to all who try for its much safer not to risk looking like a fool or paying with your life but win or loose at least you took the risk from those crossing the seas or strange lands or starting a business or building a aircraft
Cerfontaine Belgium, I remember seeing that in the hangar! never thought it could fly. Nice ending with the Pink Porter, Caravan and AN28.
From the way it sounds Herbie gets wings
O wie schön, mal eine "Himmelslaus" wieder zu sehen!!
pre- flight check wings two wheels three prop one lets go and do it
CRAP, who dares wins!!!
comment ne pas apprécier cette vidéo .
newsflash: the berlin wall is down. you can just drive now
But Snoopy said to fly.
Looks like "cargo cult" from Africa, that actually flies!
Tim Byers lmfao you broke the internet 😂🤣😂
😂😂🍻
Okay boomer.
Very cool little plane! I like the video, it's true to that time period... well done!
designed by henri Mignet who was perhaps the father of home built aircraft.
He wrote a book and provided plans. Some builders died...... In a dive the top wing can blanket the tail with a loss of control.
Some builders were saved because there were few engines available (in the early 30s0 which could drag the machine into the air.

I have one of the original hardback book of plans. It's by Henri Mignet. It's a classic piece of prose as well as full instructions to make one.
Kits for sale in the ply wood section of home depot.
Builders use aeronautics or at least marine grade plywoods.
@@FrenchCrow German marine ply wood is also very good.
absolutely brilliant.....my utmost respect for this man!
When your bedroom furniture no longer works for you....turn it into an airplane! Cool airplane!
What a wonderfully weird, funky little plane, I love it!
I think that is nice. It reminds me of a plane called The Flea.
Thomas Lee Mullins it is called the Flea !

Ya, das Flying Flea from France we-we!!,😉
2.5 million views for an obscure French homebuilt airplane video! Pretty amazing. Vive le pou!
Looks like something from Charlie Brown cartoon.
Tudjuuu !! Faut oser se lancer dans un "truc" comme ça.
Chapeau pour la réalisation, et le courage de l'essayer.
RAF should have had these in WWII. Germans can't shoot and laugh at the same time ! LOL !
This looks more like something you would have seen in WWI.
@Yen Tao Can you give us examples?
Germans don't laugh ...
@yesca jasta well sir how does he smell?
@@sky_professor3051 That's because it's using a German engine that was designed by a guy named Ferdinand in about 1925 (or earlier). I recognize it - I have two sitting in my garage.
Damn thats awesome.
Would i fly in that.Yes
Would i be freakishly terrified.Absolutly yes.
Would i be smiling.Definitely XD
Looks tail heavy to me. That angle of attack must be unsound (can't tell if he's cruising near stall speed)
It does look like he's 'plowing' thru the air, kind of like a motorboat before it planes out on the water.
Damn heavy rudder huh?
These are actually really hard to stall. The front wing angle of incidence is higher that the rear wing, so it stalls first and drops the nose before the rear wing can stall.
You're an idiot according to Chuck Yeager so I say You're an idiot.
Henrik Carlsen it is not tail heavy, look at the placement of the wheels and you known the CG is past the pilot towards the front.
ce meck est terible audacieux courageux tres fort il a tous les ingrédients pour piloter son propre coucou la musique de la soupe aux choux ses super j aime beaucoup chapeau bas !
MAN YOUR ENGLISH IS ALL FUCKED UP.
Are there any other planes that use the elevator as a wing for lift? It makes sense, but it is not common at all.

I know almost nothing about this stuff myself except that it's an intriguing design.
