Did You Know? Some Airbus A350s Sport Different Winglets
Вставка

- Let's say that you're sitting at an airport gate looking out at all the big jets parked on the apron. Because you're already familiar with the basics of planespotting and aircraft identification, you see that two Airbus A350s are parked side by side. To your knowledge, there is only the A350-900 and the A350-1000, but the jets you see are both -900s.
And…with no updated 'neo' type variants yet to be announced.., it seems odd that the two A350s in front of you have different winglets. So why might this be? Let’s explore the answer to this for today’s video!

It would be good to see how much more efficient today's A350 are compared to the original A350s.
i actually expected to hear some info on that here in this video actually.
I flew on today a350 not og a350
The a350 feels way newer than 10 years
I was thinking the same!
ok so i dont have schitzophrenia
when did lufthansa most recently change their livery

This is what I love about this channel. The devil is in the details. I thought I was crazy when I fly A350s and see the different winglets, or that I was just seating at different seats and seeing the winglets at different angles.
A350 has become one of my favorite planes over this year
Goodness me the A350 is such a beautiful looking plane.
Great aircraft . Game changer for Airbus following the demise of the 380.
Unfortunately it took some light from the A330 NEOs.
...which is also a very versatile wide body and it's my favorite for the way it flies, the way it lands and looks.
Due to Boeing company name, everybody praises the Dreamliner, but the truth is that it's not that better than the A330neo. All things considered: Capacity, passengers and cargo, range, operating speed, operating costs, price of acquisition, cabin noise, state of the art cockpit, the Dreamliner doesn't win them all and I don't even know if it wins most of them. It's better on some, less on others.
To me, 330 is not dead yet. The surge in demand and Boeing's internal issues plus the backlog of 350 and 321 can push customers towards 330. It is also worth mentioning that old 330s are just starting to retire. It won't definitely beat 787 in sales but might have a remarkable come back.@@miks564
@@miks564 B787 is by far lighter then A330neo, this is what makes the diffrence. If you only compare the statts you counted above, then the original A330 and the A330neo are same too.
@@dogukantosun5547 Yes, the 787 is more efficient because it’s lighter. But the NEO also brought better figures than the old CEO’s precisely because of the engines. More power, better efficiency, more range.
They also made changes to the wings and even to the cabin.
@@miks564 read the comment again. You didn't get my point.
Airbus has also over time, for example, upgraded the A350 cockpit from ordinary screens to touch screens.
up to airline not manufacturer
@@randomwaffler no?! The airline can't just retrofit screens at their will
@@MrSchwabentierthey mean it’s not a standard feature on the A350, but an optional extra that the airline can choose when placing an order for a new plane.
@@MrSchwabentier the manufacturer doesn’t put the seats on the plane… it’s all up to the airline man
@@MrSchwabentier further, how do you think there is a different between emirates first class and british airways first class if the airline doesn’t do it 💀💀💀
The newer A350s also don't have the 3 side slip angle probes in front of the cockpit windows, as well as new LED taxi and take-off lights in the nose gear (compared to the older halogen-type lights in the earlier A350s)
Was not aware of it, now taking a deeper look into my pics from Finnair A350. Also now more than never; would love to see the A330neo with the A350 winglets.
Still one of the best twinjet widebodies out there also boasting a good look
'still'?
@@kingsharkoon As in after the slight changes
It is the best twinjet widebody
i never noticed the A350 have a different winglets design, only thing what I know is the latest A350s have an improved MTOW and interior
OMG... I just traveled from Atlanta to Cape Town South Africa on a Delta a350. While sitting at the airport I did notice the winglets on 2 a350 that were parked side by side were different, I actually thought I was seeing things. 👀 Glad you confirmed im not crazy! Thank you. Hahahahahaha
That's why I love Airbus. Always making subtle improvements that have an impact.
The A350 is the most beautiful aircraft available.
I am glad they thought of the PIP (performance improvement package) for their A350's also including tweaked carbon brakes and wider cabins, allowing 10 abreast seating (as compared to 9 across). I wish they had thought of it earlier, but now they know what to include with the A350NEO.
The A330s are still my favorite, but the A350 comes close.
I prefer the round node design of the A330 and 777s.
Could have had a rollout ceremony.
Always been my favourite aircraft from the get-go. I was familiar with the difference in its winglet design since the Singapore had their first ULR. It kind of looked familiar with the A320 sharket.
I didn’t know about this at all as an aviation lover. Thank you Simple Flying team :)) This is why I’m subscribed ❤
Gorgeous plane either way it goes the A350s 💙💙💙
I've always thought that there were differences in the winglets, but was never sure of it until now. Great video!
This is what I like about this channel, I thought I was seeing things, I knew there had to be a difference... Thank you for confirmation and the explanation 😁
If it just a change to the winglet, can't the older 350s be fitted with the new winglets?
With raked wing designs (removing the need for a winglet) they too can undergo evolution. The 767-400ER introduced the first type and the 777X and Embraer E2 regional jet program use the 4th generation (there was a previous 3rd generation the 787 started with before it was improved to the current 4th after making the midsized variant)
The 777-200LR/300ER and freighter also has raked wingtips.
@@thatg6838They are the 2nd generation type and then the 787 brought the 3rd before that quickly got improved to the current 4th which the 777X borrows but scaled up (when the folding wingtips are down in regular flight position) whilst Embraer took inspiration and did 3 much smaller different sizes to suit each E2 variant to maximise efficiency
I saw, I think it was a TUI 738, that had mismatched wingtips.
I find it crazy that you can get to Dubai for less than £100. Not sure if that's still in 2023 with inflation.
The A350 is truly my favorite modern airliner in the skies right now.
-1000s still use the older winglets
It’s weird to see BA having the original winglets when they got theirs not that long ago.
I flew on efficient a350-900 not og a350-900
Which is which, just tell!!!!
But why the a350-1000 doesn't have the new winglet yet
The new winglet was introduced on the A350-1000!!!
@@nathd1748 it's not what i'm seeing !
@@clems33fr The new winglet was tested on Airbus' own A350-1000.
How much lower is the fuel burn?
very interesting!
Interesting find and for the CX fleet this is easily seen with the older B-LRx fleet having the original winglets but the newer B-LQx fleet having the new design unless they were fitted with older design winglets
Some other changes include the sideslip sensors just below the cockpit window have been removed on newer models
Great report! Although, you did not provide any visual cues to properly indicate which winglets were the new design 😢
New drinking game: take a shot everytime he says "quote unquote" 🤢
Very interesting, didn't know. Best aviation channel 👌
Wasn't it just the winglets from the ULR ?
originally yes, but they are now available on the other models as well
Agreed. The ULR definitely needed to be as aerodynamic as possible. So there’s a very good reason for newer winglets.
What do you mean by the ULR???
@@nathd1748 A350-900ULR. What Singapore Airlines ordered for really long haul flights like SIN-JFK.
🤯🤯💙💙
It was a rushed design so they had to make refinements after roll out. Wings are not an area Airbus leads in. Modern composite wings on a wide body shouldn’t require winglets to reduce drag
boeing does it too with their new 787
@@randomwaffler they have not had to make any changes to the wings. They got those right and don’t require winglets and are more efficient.
@@johniii8147 you’re wrong - they have the equivalent of winglets (swept back and raised wings) which have the same effect. new wing designs also do come around later, both companies have done this multiple times, even on modern jets. both wings are also efficient
Another theory ia friend who flies Airbus is Airbus Sharklet's vary in which factories they are built. The Chinese Airbus builds have larger winglets making them llook like wing nuts.
This is more like when automobile manufacturers make minor changes to a model before giving it a redesign every 5 or 6 years
Not comparable at all
