    I've managed to squeeze the 40mm ear pieces from the Cardo Packtalk Edge into the helmet for anyone else wondering if you can get them in the pre-created spaces in the helmet.

    Not a single word about the aucostics and noise in helmet....
    For me its going to be either this Shark or Schuberth S3.
    Both looks great and have nice materials but i would like to have some more info about that noise in Spartan.
    Cheers from Croatia 👍🏼

    It has really bad wind noise on the top of your head when you open the face shield more than half way. You have to adjust your head to a weird angle to make the noise go away. There might be a way to make it go away but I just don’t know yet. Overall it’s a good helmet.

    I have to change my helmet, I am currently using the Shark Race-R, on a sports touring bike (Triumph Sprint ST 1050). The current helmet is too loud, it has worn out (it is already 7-8 years old), the visor is already scratched ... it's just time for it. I am thinking about 4 more "touristy" helmets (integral, with Dropdown sun-visor ), I measured all of them and they are OK, the paintwork is completely irrelevant to me, but I couldn't ride a motorcycle in any of them.
    Helmets that interest me:
    - X-Lite 903
    - Shark Spartan RS
    - Scorpion EXO 1400 AIR
    - HJC F70.
    All of these helmets have at least 4 stars in SHARP tests, but which one should I choose? Is there something that a person without much experience in this field like me (I had two helmets in my life) could miss? Which one is the best made and has the best quality / price ratio? It depends for me that the helmet lasts for years.
    Please help.

      Interesting selection of decent helmets there. The fact you've had a Shark before and got on with the shape of it for so long counts in the Spartan RS's favour. It's also the only helmet in your selection with ECE 22.06 safety approval (the SHARP ratings for the others suggest they may pass if submitted, but we can't know that). I feel the Shark and X-Lite stand above the other two with regards to build quality and expected lifespan. The X-Lite has an anti-mist sun visor, so if riding in damp conditions (including chilly mornings) that is a plus point. The Scorpion and HJC have fog-free sun visors as well. I hope that helps you reach a decision. Cheers, Tony

      Tony,
      Thank you very much for your answer!
      I tried on all the helmets again and decided on the Shark Spartan RS - it fit my head best. Quality at a high level, although I think that the X-Lite X-903 is a bit better finished, but it may be a matter of the fact that I tried the carbon version and the Shark was a multi-composite version. The HJC offered the best visibility and specially torn intercom cable space, but the quality of the finish felt worse than in the Shark or X-lite. Scorpion was OK, but no fireworks. The only drawback of Shark is the lack of a prepared place in the EPS for intercom cables and the part surrounding the neck could be a bit "bigger". Besides, I am very pleased and hope to enjoy this helmet for thousands of kilometers. Thank you for your advice, she was very helpful and I think she influenced my decision quite significantly.

      @@Loberpl Really interesting to read your experience. Can I ask what size you chose and if you are happy with how noisy the shark RS is at speeds? I will be buying a large but as this is the smallest of the sizes which uses the larger shell, am wondering if it looks or feels big when worn. Thanks.

    When you say that Cardo Speakers didn't fit right, what do you mean ?

    • @sportsbikeshop
      @sportsbikeshop  2 роки тому

      The recesses inside the helmet are too small for the Cardo Packtalk Bold speakers to sit in neatly. You'd need to put boosters in the recesses for the speakers to stick to, which might mean there isn't room for them between the helmet and your ears. I hope that helps. Cheers, Tony

    I have a Shark Ridill, which fits me well so when looking to upgrade this helmet would be the first one I'd try. However as an all year round rider in Scotland I find the Ridill let's in too much air so is a bit cold and drafty for winter how does the Spartan RS compare in that respect?

    • @sportsbikeshop
      @sportsbikeshop  2 роки тому +1

      I found this one pretty good. There's a close fit around the neck and the vents don't seem to leak air through when they're shut. I've only used this helmet in winter and it's not been an issue for me. Hopefully that would still be the case on your bike, with the way the lid fits you and the conditions you ride in. Thanks for getting in touch and I hope that helps. Cheers, Tony

    Would the chin vent fit the Spartan gt?
    It looks like it may direct more air to the visor than the one on the gt.
    The one on the gt has the vent at the very top meaning you have to tilt the helmet as though you're looking downwards to get anything through.
    Utterly terrible design. Without a pinlock the visor mists quicker than my cheap shark s900 the gt replaced.

    • @sportsbikeshop
      @sportsbikeshop  Місяць тому

      I doubt it would help, even if it would fit. The only holes in the Spartan GT chinbar are those at the top, so air could only come through there anyway. It's often the case with Pinlock-equipped helmets that the visors mist up if the Pinlock is left out. The designers are happy to have a more secure air seal as they rely on the Pinlock to stop the visor misting up. Helmets were very different before the Pinlock came along, with a lot more air flowing around the face, as manufacturers knew it was needed to keep mist at bay. Thanks for getting in touch. Cheers, Tony

    Hi Tony, does the Spartan RS have Emergency release liner?
    I've just tried the Nolan N80-8 and found it quite noisy at motorway speeds so am looking for something quieter (bikes are Sports Tourers and like you I do a daily commute).
    Thanks

    • @sportsbikeshop
      @sportsbikeshop  Рік тому +1

      Hi Alex, no - this helmet doesn't have emergency release for the cheekpads. Have you considered an HJC RPHA-70? This has emergency cheekpads, a good reputation for noise (4 references to 'noisy' in the customer reviews and 96 references to 'quiet') and I found it a good helmet for the commute. There's an RPHA-71 coming soon to replace it, but I've not had chance yet to try one. Cheers, Tony

    How is this compare to the skwal i3? Is it worth the extra money going for the rs? Thanks

    • @sportsbikeshop
      @sportsbikeshop  7 місяців тому

      The Spartan RS has a composite-fibre shell, D-ring strap fastener and a plusher liner. The Skwal i3 has a plastic shell, quick-release strap and the headline item - the LEDs. There's a £30 difference between them at the minute. Taken as straight helmets, I'd say the Spartan RS is worth the extra (unless you want lights, obviously). Cheers, Tony

      Hi. I've not worn the Spartan 1.2, but I have tried the Spartan GT and Spartan RS. Based on my experience of those I would place the Shark above the Nolan. As ever, much will come down to your own personal needs and preferences, and also the way the helmet fits your head. Thanks for getting in touch. Cheers, Tony

    What's the difference between the Spartan GT and Spartan RS apart from safety rating? Struggling to find much online

    • @sportsbikeshop
      @sportsbikeshop  Рік тому +1

      The GT is a little more touring-focused than the RS, which is more of a sporty road helmet. The aero, venting and the lining are a bit more distance-focused on the GT. If you're looking at the Spartan GT V2/GT V2 Carbon then that has a micrometric strap fastener rather than the D-rings on the RS. However the original Spartan GT/GT Carbon had D-rings. There's also a new Spartan GT Pro/GT Pro Carbon. This has gone back to D-rings, has an anti-mist sun visor and is rated to ECE 22.06. I hope that's not made things even more complicated for you! Cheers, Tony
