Will Britain stand up to Trump over Greenland?
Вставка
- Опубліковано 5 лют 2025
- Denmark’s Prime Minister is clearly worried enough about President Trump's threats over Greenland to embark on a tour of European capitals to drum up support. Is the UK able to offer clear and unequivocal support to Denmark - our NATO ally? We ask Secretary of State, Peter Kyle.
But we start with China’s AI model, DeepSeek RI. What is it? Why is it causing chaos to US markets? And is it a security risk?

I totally agree with you. What has the UK become - scared and weak, it is shameful and I'm so sorry. We need to realise the US is no longer our friend
@@Mugtree This is what happens when a country turns towards isolationism. The UK leaving Europe through Brexit was the worst move we could have possibly made. Some of us knew these scenarios were possible, but people with little ability to consider "what if.." got us into this position.

This is why Trump got into power. Politicians waffling on and not answering the question. FFS.
why do you think he’s not answering? cos he doesn’t want to escalate/and put the labour gov in the crossfire over a minor likely non material issue?
Hmm. But also. If I want the interrupting type 'cotcha' questioning I'll watch the BBC. They put him on the defensive and made him revert to rehearsed answers. We have more time on UA-cam. No rush. Let him talk.
@-JT-543 Is the idea of countries randomly annexing bits of other countries really a minor issue? The USA doesn't even have to do it: the very fact that their president is spouting off about it as something he considers a valid option _in itself_ seriously erodes the international taboo against such things. Even Putin invading Ukraine _claimed_ he was doing it for other reasons (however truthful they may have been!), even he didn't feel he could just publicly disavow the prohibition on taking over places just because you want them!
@@zak3744 yes, considering it’s almost 100% certainly not going to happen
@@zak3744 Nobody has ever cared about some international taboo. You think China cares what the International Community thinks about it taking Taiwan. China only cares weither they can and what it will cost them. The only "taboo" is the risk of economic or military intervention by the United States and always has been. The Ukraine war is a great example of this, outside of the US and it's allies no country has taken any stand against Russia practically or rhetorically.
Peter Kyle used to be my constituency MP and I voted for him twice. Very sad to see his total transformation from a charming and caring local issues MP to a completely spineless minister who can't even give a definitive answer as to whether we'll defend one of our European allies from attack.
It happens when MPs become ministers - nothing new in Peter Kyle’s stance. He now has to conform to the collective responsibility of Cabinet. He has to be careful what he says.

It is the 1930s again. The names of some of the players have changed but it sounds like the spirit of Chamberlain is still here.
Lord Halifax?
Such a simplistic view. Chamberlain went to war with Germany to protect Poland. Churchill snd Rosovelt let Stalin take over the Country in 1945. Countries will act based on national interest and circumstances of the time.
There's a body of opinion that says Chamberlain and others were delaying going to war with Germany because we just weren't ready militarily. They knew long before that there was going to be a war. My father, who was too old to serve in the military, became a part-time Fireman in May 1939, going full-time on 1st September 1939. He told me that everyone knew war was inevitable. By 1st September, he was fully trained and ready to go. By 29th September, all UK citizens had been registered, clearly something that had been planned months before.
However, I think that the Secretatary of State should have stated that we are always against sovereign states being invaded without mentioning names. The UK must make a decision about which side of the fence we will jump off to make it clear to all parties. If the UK carried on dealing with the USA in the event of a US invasion of Greenland we would become the enemy of our closest friends and biggest trading partner.
Chamberlain was right.
@@JohnBarrington-g1x Exactly, and look at what a joke it would make of Europe's stand on Russia (also at the behest of the Americans, who started all the trouble in the The Ukraine in the first place). When are people going to wake up to the evil that is controlling our countries?

It’s time for the Love Actually moment
It is disgusting how a government official will give an unqualified "Yes!" when asked whether we oppose a hostile take-over of Taiwan by China, and that same politician winds himself in an endless series of loops while avoiding having to say even the most timid "yes". In the meantime France already offered Denmark French troops for Greenland ... the cowardice of Kyle's answers is just flabbergasting.
It’s an incredible embarrassment that the French are first out the door with a stick and these British politicians already have a white flag!
With Taiwan theyre not obligated to do anything but strongly condemn. With Greenland they actually have a NATO treaty obligation to come to the defense of Greenland and Denmark with troops.
So much easier being "brave", when theres not really any stakes in it for u.
@@dfuher968 The NATO treaty obligiation has never been binding. Neither France nor Turkey chose to participated when the US triggered article 5 after 11 of Setember. Also, the treaty doesn't really work when it's a NATO member attacking another Nato member.
@@havilend3450 France only re-integrated their military command with NATO in 2009 again. and there is a reason for why it didn't initially do it and why it seperated it in the first place.. chief amongst them was America's treatment of France directly after WW2. they basically wanted to split France into 2 nations just like how Germany was split even though France was an allied nation in the conflict, also it didn't trust America due to American servicemen's actions inside France afterwards and how American banks and companies profited heavily from loans for the Reconstruction effort of Europe, they were very affraid that America would be the new Imperialistic force that Europe would have to deal with.. so yeah there is a loooong and winded history of why France has been how they are inside the NATO Alliance and a lot of it stems from American actions. esp since America and Britain kept France out of basically all dealing during the war. despite France having fought side by side with Britain and fell way before America even entered the war and the French had the largest amount of Exiled forces in the service of the Allies.
so yeah France is an outlier, and yet here they are being the first to give affirmation to the fact that they would honour those treaties when it is countries that don't act imperialistically on the world stage.
@ This is absolutely not relevant to what I said but, still you made a lot of misleading to outright lies in your comment.
France left NATO command in 66' and it had nothing to do with treatment in WW2. Understandably France was concerned with sovereignty and didn't want French troops under NATO command and wanted a solely French nuclear deterrent. They didn't pull out of the treaty however so article 5 still applied.
There is literally no evidence the US wanted to split France full stop. There was loans to rebuild Europe but the Marshal Plan itself was aid not a loan.
Also, France has a much longer history and was much more actively pursuing imperialism at this time period. It was France that blackmailed the US into supporting there war to re-establish control in Vietnam by threatening to seek support from the Soveit Union if the US didn't militarily assist them.
France has a long history of mistrust of what it views as Anglo-Saxon dominated institutions like NATO. We can argue how much that is justified by US actions but, the examples you gave are false.
This country really doesn’t have any moral courage anymore. Spineless and shameful.

If even Danish companies like medicine company Novo Nordic and shipping giant Maersk stop selling their medicine and shipping services to the USA the US federal government = all US military globally would be losing their only shipping service supplier and the US companies only own 0,5% of global shipping capacity, Novo Nordic has 52% of global insulin production and all new alternative medicine against diabetes which is also a weight loss drug very popular in the USA, only other companies producing insulin is two French companies 48% so 40 million Americans with diabetes risk 0 supply just like all of the US military because European shipping companies dominate global shipping, maybe China has enough ships to supply the US military 😂 despite combined being smaller than one danish shipping company China is rising so they could do it 😊 I’m not sure Trump knows about how the world works, putting all of your points in military navy and 0,5 in logistics and supplies and getting your allies to provide your logistics and supply needs for then to threaten war against those you are totally reliant upon 😂

I understand that this minister is probably trying not to get involved or escalate, but hope behind the scenes he is pedalling hard to give full and unequivocal support to Denmark and Greenland.
