- Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin and General Charles "C.Q." Brown, chairman of the Joint Chiefs, took questions following a virtual Ukraine Defense Contact Group meeting. The two addressed the foreign aid package signed into law earlier this week that included money for Israel, Ukraine and the Indo-Pacific.

see? this is why we need education. if ukraine was only using 15 a day for the last 2 years they would have fired over 11,000 of them. which isnt good seeing as little over 10,000 have been produced to date and they arent all in ukraine and we're no longer in the 2nd year.

So the US has the goal of supporting an independent and democratic Ukraine that has the "capability to defend itself and deter aggression going forward". The key word there is "itself".
I assume that the definition of "itself" includes Crimea, Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson oblasts.
