  • Most guests at theme parks are great. But there are some that as a guest just try my patience and when I'm trying to enjoy my own visits can make it difficult sometimes. These are 7 of the worst...
A behind the scenes look at what a former worker at Disney World, Silver Dollar City, and Busch Gardens Florida experienced in his time working at the parks. From driving large safari trucks around live wild animals while cracking one silly joke after another, to spending 5 years as a #PhotoPass photographer at #WaltDisneyWorld and seeing and experiencing all sorts of things, to being a conductor and #trainrobber on the famous Frisco Silver Dollar Line at #SilverDollarCity. With 10 years of working in the parks, there's lots of stories to tell. Here is some of them...
Not only did I work in theme parks for 10 years, I've visited a whole lot of them as well. Here's some stories of great visits, not so great visits, favorites, reviews, and much more.

The worst is when a guest decides it’s ok to take their phone out on a lift hill and the ride has to stop and everyone has to wait for the ride operator to find the person with the phone for the ride to start.

The ones that annoy me are the families trying to figure out if they want to ride while blocking the ride's entrance...or the entire group huddled at the entrance to measure 1 kid, holding back the rest of us wanting to get through.
Regarding phones, I've had 2 instances where I had a phone land within a few feet from me on the midway. One was last year, had just walked out onto the midway from backstage only to see this "brick" hurtling toward my left. The phone surprisingly survived - had turned it in.
Another one wasn't so fortunate, was heading up our park's service road where one of the ride's brake runs follow it and as the train hit the brake run, I saw a phone go flying and smack the road. That phone was toast. I had turned it into lost and found just as the guests who lost their phone had come to lost and found to report the lost phone. Turned out they also lost their keys on the catwalk.

One time I was working on Pandemonium at SFNE and was actually hit in the head by flying cell phone. (Thankfully I was wearing a thick ski hat because it was cold out, and the phone hit me at an angle where I only needed an ice pack.) It bounced off the back of my head and landed in the infield grass (a restricted area)-so when its owner asked me if I had seen it, I asked her if it flew out of her hands. She said “yeah, I’ll take it back now,” I explained “your flying phone, which you’re not supposed to have on the ride in the first place, flung out of your car and hit me in the head, landed in a restricted area, and NOW you have the nerve to ask me to just hand it back to you? Not only do I know whether it’s still in one oiece having fallen twenty feet to the grass below, but it’s so dark out here I can’t even SEE the d*** thing!” (I was in so much pain that I didn’t realize ‘til everyone around me started laughing and applauding that the swear word slipped uncensored, thankfully therevwere no children present.)

As a former park worker, i hate it that whenever i had to close the queue due to technical issue or lightning alert, the guests would crowd around the main entrance scolding and shouting at me, demanding for it to be open, or push and shove me or others just to try to get into the queue regardless of me directing them to the other rides that were open . Sometimes they will get so close to my face that I had to ask them to kindly back off. I also hate it when they open queues ropes to cut queue and mess up the whole line, there was once where our single rider queue and regular queue got merged together. Not to mention there will be guests sleeping at random areas such as the exit of our attraction by lying flat on the floor. I love my job but the guests drive me nuts sometimes.

Oh my! The line cutters drive me crazy too. I got quite a few leg bumps by strollers in our last visit to Disneyland; since it was a week day there was an overflowing amount of moms bringing their little lovely twerps and not paying attention to our pained ankles. I pushed my wife through Disneyland a couple of times in a wheelchair and oh gosh trying to get through without killing her and smashing into others was as much of a problem as being run over by granny in her power chair. In other words I can relate very much to these. Oh and speaking of flashers...well I've come across both types at theme parks! Unintentional of the other type you didn't mention. I can't stand people taking flash pictures on the dark rides too. Thanks for the video!!

My sister and I went to Catalina Island about 4 years ago. She's been on dialysis for over 2 decades now and long walks are not possible for her. So we rented a wheelchair and I pushed her all over the island. (What a workout!!!) We were squeezing our way into one of the gift shops, talking loudly to one another (she's deaf in one ear, thanks to a nasty virus), and this woman turned just as we were passing her and kneed the metal wheelchair HARD and almost fell into my sister's lap. The woman yelped, items went tumbling out of her hands, and my sister yelled in surprised. It took a minute or so for everything to right itself and the woman apologized all over herself (while rubbing her knee), "I am so sorry! I should be watching where I'm going!" Um...yeah! ;-)

2 pet peeves 1.Inappropriate attire. I could go into detail how how negatively this has changed in the 43 years I have been going to WDW.
    2. The people who jump on the trams after the attendant says “No more more boarding”. Thankfully they changed the rules of playing the safety message before moving. Used to be if somebody jumped on after final call while the safety message had to be replayed .once waited for the safety message to be played 4 times. The jumpers and the Rolls Royce strollers that had be collapsed.

    Some you missed,
    1. The complainers: the people (mostly at disney) that complain about EVERYTHING. The wait is HOW LONG?!? A soda is HOW MUCH?!? Question: did you leave the house today not knowing that Disney was pricey and had long lines? It breaks my heart when I see a kid in a gift shop ask for something and the parent tells them flat out "It's too expensive." If you can barely afford tickets just to get into Disney, just go to a different, more affordable park. You will enjoy yourself more not having to budget dinner.
    2. The entitled people aka passholes:
My family were APs, and we would go out of our way to tell people where the bathrooms were or how to get to small world. We took ownership of the park and understood the park is for EVERYBODY. Then you have the people who want special treatment because they've "been a passholder for 15yrs" or my favorite, "I've spent [insert dollar amount] on tickets..." Yeah lady, so did everyone else. You're not special.
    3. The talker/historian/one-upper:
This one is just a pet peeve of mine but the people who won't SHUT UP. They have to comment on everything! "Oh, this queue is pretty. Did you know that this used to be golden circle? I remember going to the parks back when it was $20."
    Nobody cares!
Anyway, sorry for the massive post but annoying guests is a topic I could talk about for hours. Keep up the good work sir.

I was fuming, because not only did she ruin it for us, she also ruined it for everyone around us because it’s an omnimover system! She also tried to line cut to us while we were in line for It’s a Small World, but an older gentleman told her off, and she had to wait with her other friends at the exit for us. Yeah, she will not be joining us again.

Line cutters are the absolute worst, and are entitled/selfish human beings. I think the worst groups by far though are the Brazilian groups at Disney. They act like straight savages with no home training! I've seen like 100 try to cut in line at once! They scream and chant, to where no one can hear anything, constantly cut lines, don't care who they trample including children, handicapped, and elderly people, and act like they own the park. Disney needs to make them abide by park rules like everyone else, or kick out the ENTIRE group. They never follow any of the rules, and ruin everyone else's very expensive day. The cheerleading squads are extremely annoying as well, but don't behave nearly as bad as the others.

  • @thelittlronan

    About the line cutters -
The bad: While at Disneyland Paris, my friend and I were waiting in line for their Indiana Jones coaster. That line is almost always short, so it wasn't a big deal, but this girl runs through the line and looks like she truly was getting to her party. NOPE! Turns out she wasn't. She was able to get all the way to the front of the line. Granted, it was maybe an extra 10 seconds onto our wait, but my friend and I were very confused.
The "good": When I was around thirteen, I went to Disneyland with a couple of my friends. A celebrity I loved at the time happened to be there. Being thirteen, I went to follow him onto a ride (funny enough, the Indiana Jones ride). I was NOT expecting to get through the line AT ALL because he went through the fast pass line. But the fast pass people let us through! The celebrity went to have their own Jeep to themselves but it was fun being able to follow him and get onto Indiana Jones in record time. I would never suggest someone doing this but it's a fun memory to look back on!

Most of the worst line cutting I've noticed has also been at Disney Paris. I suspect they might be a bit less strict about it there so I have seen several line cutters get away with it. If they are called out, it's usually by the people waiting in line, not the CMs. Hope they'll change it and get more strict. Generally with most rules the CMs seem to be more lenient there. There have been a few times where I just thought: Oh c'mon, you can't NOT have seen that.

In one of your videos, can you talk about how their disability stuff works? Like renting wheelchairs, how to be in line while in a chair, what do they accept as a disability etc. I have bad arthritis in my knees and ankles so I can't walk or stand long and even though it might be awhile before I can go, I would love to know how it all works.

    • @SirWillow
      @SirWillow  3 роки тому +3

Outside of helping them board at the SDC train and letting them through the exit gate I really haven't dealt with disability access and how it works. To make it even more challenging, it can change from park to park and company to company. What Disney does is different than Universal, which is different than 6 Flags, Herchend, Cedar Fair and others. And it can also vary based on the disability as well. With all of those various differences and factors it makes it nearly impossible to do a video for an area I don't know well in a way that will give good accurate information. :-(
The best thing to do is to check the individual park's websites or contact their guest services and talk to them and they can give you the best, most accurate information.

One guy was holding his phone above his head (filming, I guess) and he couldn't walk straight. I stopped (which makes me guilty) and he still walked into the side of the stroller.

Walking walls drive me crazy, especially during races!
I wasn't there but am told my mom accidentally bumped into several people with a rental scooter once because her blood sugar was dropping and while heading to a restaurant she got confused and wanted to slow down since they were approaching a crowd but got confused and was thinking pull the handle to stop like on a bike, but for anyone who doesn't know on most ECVs that makes them go faster! Luckily no one was really hurt.
There are times when you're loud? Not sure I can picture that... As long as you aren't singing it's all good!

Line cutters are one of my least favorite, especially when I'm fairly certain they don't have any family or party members a head in the line. And people stopping in the middle of a path when its crowded out is really annoying to, if its a single person its generally ok but I really hate it when a huge group just stops in the middle for no reason and is talking creating a big roadblock.

All 7 of these are great examples of terrible park guests. I have done a couple of these by accident in the parks such as stopping in the middle of walkways. But I think besides Illegal Line Jumpers as I usually I am one who will pay for that perk in parks that I don’t get to very often. The one type of guest that annoyed me as a employee was a guest is didn’t have any clue about the park. I worked at Kings Island in Mason Ohio, people would not have any clue of what rides they had or even what kind of experiences that parks offered. While it is understandable for some guests to not know too much information but I would have guests who didn’t have any clue about where they were going and not have a map on them. In the 3 months of working in a park I have had guests that just followed us employees sometimes backstage when there was a sign saying authorized personal only, Guests who would be violent with other guests and employees. Whenever I visit a park I read up on it first get the basic gist of things that the park offers (ticket information, fast track upgrades, Attractions, dining) prior to my visit

-People going on rides only to make fun of them all the way through, often in a very load voice so that everyone can hear their delightful commentary. As if they automatically think that since they don't enjoy it, no one does, so they better provide some other form of entertainment to the people around them less they get bored. They don't. Other people still like it. The others really don't care about the opinion of a random stranger. It's just attention-seeking. No one thinks you are being brave or cool or funny if you're making a point of demonstrating how you are so above that ride.
-Pointing out everything, throughout the whole ride, without thinking about maybe lowering your voice. Mostly a parent with children. The kids though hardly ever talk and look around and see everything on their own, they're not the problem, but somehow the parent still needs to explain everything as if they were blind. "Look there is Jack Sparrow! Do you see him?!" "Oh looks the dog has the keys! They are in his mouth you see it? Haha-See how they try to get him to come over?" "It's not gonna work'' ''Oooh, spooky, did you hear that?" "Ooh fireflies" "Do you see that pirate? Here behind the...". Up until the very end of the ride. Every few seconds they point out the next thing like a tour guide. It's one thing to point out something really awesome if you see your kid is looking at the wrong direction. But why can't you just tap their shoulder or point your finger, or gently elbow them or whisper? And why not just pointing out the things that are hard to miss, not everything right in front of you- How are they supposed to miss some of that? Can't you just wait a few minutes until you get off?
-People who use their phones during a dark ride, so bright that even rows behind them it's almost blinding. And mostly not just for a few seconds. All the time without ever looking up. If you're that bored why are you even on the ride? It certainly would have been more fun for the others without you and your phone.
    -Flash photography.
-Line cutters of any kind. The "I'm just joining my friends'' kind but also: (this is true especially when you are alone and there is some space to your left and right) those who, if you you leave but an inch of space between yourself and the person in front of you, or anywhere on the side, they will suddenly not be behind you anymore but almost next to you, then next to you, then slightly in front of you, then directly, then they will be in front of the person in front of you, then the next..and so on. Ever so slightly sneeking forward, just a teeny bit at a time, without ever being obvious, so that, just in case someone said something, they can act if it was by accident. And usually people don't say anything because the line cutters only move such a tiny bit closer at a time that it could be unintentional and they don't want to be rude. And these line cutters know it. They exist in parades too. Leave some respectful distance between you and the people in front of you-not even enough space for a child even, they will immediately squeeze in, usually in groups so that now your whole view is blocked. If you don't almost kiss the back of the person in front of you, count on them to see this space occupied.
-People who stand so closely in line behind you that they constantly run and bump into you. Especially if you wear a bagpack. Just standing there and WOM, something bumping against your back. Probably unintentional, you brush it off. BUMP, again a minute later. Another accident probably. BUMP. BUMP. BUMP. BUMP-BUMP. So often that you actually turn your head just to make sure they don't do it on purpose as a way of tapping you to get their attention. Nope. And it goes on. After an hour you almost go nuts. Like, you don't get on the ride earlier this way. It doesn't matter whether you leave a handbreadth of a distance or 20 feet! The distance until the ride starts is not the problem, it's the people you are waiting for.
It leaves you no choice but to move closer to the person in front of you but behind you they keep pushing so you need to keep moving until you are almost squeezed to their back. And then usually, if they wear a backpack to, I also get bumped in the face by their backpack whenever they move just the tiniest bit back. And now you get bumped into from behind and from in front of you. Fun. Result: People bump into me from behind, I have no choice but to move forward to avoid it and inevitably bump into the person in front of me, they move forward too because they are bumped into by me now, and now there is too little space between them and the person in front of them and now they are getting bumped into, so they move forward too and it spreads through the whole line just because one person or one group of people couldn't keep any distance. Or at least they could get the hint once I move away further and further from them to the front, but they just close the space and don't even notice. Maybe that's even what they want.

I have a recent personal story involving line jumpers: when I was in line for Rock n Roller Coaster recently, a group of teens barrels through me to catch up with the group directly in front of me. In the load area, I reported them to a Cast Member, who then gave the hooligans a stern talking to... only to let them on the ride.
Based on that experience, Disney needs to be stricter about line cutting. I'm not saying that line jumpers need to be taken backstage to have their kneecaps broken, just remove them from the property without refund.

I was shouting out “YES!” to every single one of these, especially towards to beginning (I have little tolerance for oblivious people).
Fun fact for #2: your “wall walkers” will almost always be women (example in your photo). Men and women will tend to walk differently in a group (women abreast to one another; men in a cluster). Something I recall from the psychology courses I took in college (and I notice whenever I run into “wall walkers”).
Regarding line skippers, I do the exact same thing to block them. When I see them in action, you can find me maneuvering the “pushovers” in my group into position and then me glaring at the line skippers (I can be intimidating when I want to). 😄
