Zairean President Mobutu Sese Seko received newly appointed
Prime Minister Etienne Tshisekedi at the presidential residence
on Friday (4/4) .
On Thursday, Tshisekedi sacked parliament, annulled the
constitution, and offered Cabinet positions to rebels. The moves
stunned politicians from all sides.
On the issue of foreign troops in nearby Brazzaville, Mobuto
told the press that the presence of armed forces near the
borders of Zaire was merely intimidation.

establishment that chose a name that was proposed by the
opposition. The prime minister has to come from the opposition
and not from the president's political party. It was done like
that with Tshesekedi who is standing here in front of me.";
