- I've been sitting on this unfinished song for a long time now, mostly because I'm not really happy with how the Synthesia turned out in certain parts. But now I finally decided to finish it, and even if I'm still unhappy with the final version, I hope you can still enjoy listening to it =)
For those of you who aren't familiar with the context of this song: This takes place after the well-known "Alive" song in the "Jekyll & Hyde"-musical. After locking himself up in his room for a whole week, Dr. Jekyll gets a visit by his friend Utterson who tries to reason with him. At the same time, Jekyll's fiancée Emma tries to convince her father (who is the chairman of the Board of Governors) that Jekyll isn't as obsessed with his work as it might seem, with poor results.

For years, I've played this cover of my fav J&H song in the background occasionally. And now, it's an inspiration for a song I've written for a parody crossover kind of fanfic I'm making: Mario Gear Rising: Ztar-evengeance (released by hopefully 2024). One thing about it is I'm including my own original plot points in it, that are either parodying other things that I love or are straight up original.
I wrote a few songs in the fic with the inspiration of 3 songs from Jekyll and Hyde and one of them is this but it's a completely different situation that features the Sam (and half-Jekyll + Hyde?) equivalent, Thunderstreak Luigi.
A portion of the fic will be a flashback-like journey of his dissent into madness and power from something awful Tatanga did to him and Luigi getting his big revenge, which will result in even more catastrophic things in the main story to happen.
To tease you further and because I can't resist the urge any longer, I'd like to share the song I've written that's inspired by His Work and Nothing More now. Written specifically with this cover in mind as well because honestly....this is 100% the best instrumental of this song on YT, easily.

An awesome song and synthesia cover! I've foudn this picture yesterday on geraritydevillefort's deviantart page and it looks so cool! The picture really fits to the song. It shows some sadness, hope that he loves her more than his work, the careness of Utterson and the disbelief of the father. I love this song!

It's one of my favorites from this musical as well. Though working on these Jekyll & Hyde-songs is quite a lot more difficult compared to other musicals. I'm still not sure why that is x)

Y'know, if you just put the lyrics in the description, I wouldn't be questioning what they were singing.
I absolutely adore all of your work so I wanted to ask you a question. I was recently digging around your channel and noticed that on two of your subscriber specials you provided the sheet music for two of the songs from Frank Wildhorn's "The Count of Monte Cristo" and I just wanted to know, where did you find it? I have searched the internet for years now and you seem to be the only person who has access of his sheet music and a production of the musical, how did you find them? If you will respond to me ever can you please send me the links to the sheet music for the entire score? Or can you post them on your channel? Thank you so much for everything you're doing in regards to preserving Frank Wildhorn's work, it is highly under appreciated in the musical theater world, thank you. :)
Thanks! Yeah, I really like Wildhorn and his music, but sadly his work is really unappreciated in America, that's why he's mostly working for european musicals now.
And I was able to find the full score for this musical after digging through google for long enough. But the person who gave me the sheets told me to not share them openly since that's illegal. I can share it with you though if you can contact me in private (for example on my DeviantArt-page) and if promise me to not share them with anyone else.
Is Wildhorn doing any new stuff in Europe then? His age in the US ended in the early 2000s ish which is a huge disappointment because he was such a talent. I will contact you on DeviantArt right away then! Granted, I haven't used the site for several years now lol

Yeah, he's been quite active over here in Europe. "The Count of Monte Cristo" is actually a good example, only now is it slowly appearing in America when it originally came out here in 2009. Other musicals that he recently made that I have seen are "Rudolf" and "Artus - Excalibur" which I both consider really good, but he also did a bunch more that I haven't seen yet.
I'll have to check out "Rudolf" and "Artus - Excalibur," thanks! I know the "The Count of Monte Cristo" concept album was released in the US in 2008 and in 2016 they did one performance in Utah, but that was it. Thank you again for everything, and please never stop your work on this channel, it really is fantastic :)

hehehehehe, EXACTLY like nosferatu from Dracula in some parts... no dispute, can't refute it, or deny it in any way, shape, or form. I don't know which came first, but one is a copy of the other.
Having said that, both are Wildhorn's musicals, so he has some... creative freedom to copy and paste, but the instrumentals are both unnervingly similar. Every time I listen to Nosferatu, I sing "You have your work, and nothing more..."
I'm pretty sure this one came out first, but it's still weird that Wildhorn felt the need to copy his own work x)

Can You give me the lyrics for the German version of the song? I've been looking anywhere for the lyrics, but I couldn't find them anywhere and my German isn't good enough to understand what they're singing. I've been trying to write it down as I hear it(for over a year now, I think, if not longer), but that didn't work. I'd be IMMENSELY grateful for the lyrics
