Since I've never driven either, I wouldn't know. But I would think it would depend on the vehicle driven and what it's used for. I can imagine the 3.0 powering an early (2000-2005) Toyota Tundra and Sequoia SUV. A 2.8 would be awesome for something like a Toyota Tacoma.
Best HiLux is 4.0 V6 Petrol. So quiet you can leave in running with Andersen Plug around a camp as a generator No DPF No EGR No Decoke needed No Catch can needed No stink No rattling No vibrations No shakes No expensive “Eco” engine oil needed. Much cheaper running costs when servicing included. 15,000 service no probs 500,000 easy trouble free Klms My mechanic has one that’s done over 600,000klms. He claims these engines will do 1,000,000 Klms no probs with normal servicing
12.3 L/100 around town 10.2 L/100 Highway 110 KPH 19.0 L/100 Towing 2200 Kg caravan And if you get a batch of fuel with water in it it doesn’t ruin $8,000 injectors like in a Diesel.
You are definitely right mate the Diesel one is a headache to maintain properly I got both 2.8 and 3.0 hilux but in some aspects 3.0 is better cuz it has less stress than the 2.8
What bothers me is that neither engine are available for USA customers. Damned if I know why. I can think of quite a few vehicles sold here that would've benefited from a small displacement (2.4-4.0 litre) turbo diesel engine. Hell, maybe even a hybrid (Turbo Diesel-Electric) engine.
Im considering buying a 17ft caravan and a hilux 4x4 3.0 D4D dual cab manual. The van would weigh around 1600kg-1700kg . Will be travelling right around australia. Anyone have personal experience with this setup? Or thoughts on if it would be a good combo .
Get a Unichip, expect north of 40% more power, no adverse effect on consumption, unless you use a heavy right foot. Plus fit EGT guage. I'd rate this as better for 95% of users than any 70 series Cruiser iteration, including the new releases.
I dragged raced my 3.0L with my mates 2,8L the 3.0L was always pulling away everytime

Here in East Africa, petrol is very expensive. Diesel is the way to go, no one is looking at emissions laws

In Chile, gasoline is costing between 1.2 and 1.5 dollars approximately depending on the octane number.
Is the 2.8l D 4D reliable in the new LC Prado?
Yeah the prado 2.8 2020 -present is really good 👍
2.8 is faster
i have both...2.8 has more balls...but 1kd is more reliable with less stress than 2.8...the high pressure pump likes good diesel only...
The 3.0 is far more superior its faster and can tow load without hesiatation
We have a 2015 SR5 n70 lux one of the very lasts of the 3 litre and I wouldn’t swap it for a new one at all.
Yep same and it's the smoothest thing on earth
I picked mine up on April 2015
