Bruce - thanks for your work on these videos. Your explanation about group riding (in one of your other videos) is spot on the way I feel about them. I much prefer to be on my own pace and agenda. The problem is - exactly what you point out well - the risk factor. Because of that I hesitate much (too much) to get out there. Just like you I decided to try downsizing as a way to get over the hesitation to get out there and explore/ride. I love my big ADV bike (I have a KTM1190) for long road moto camping trips - but I am hesitant to take the big beast off road. I'm fortunate that I can have multiple bikes so I'm not committed to getting rid of the big bike yet, because it's so fun on the road (and comfortable). I just purchased an anemic RE Himalayan but now I have no excuse to not get out and explore with it. Your videos are very inspirational to that end. I live near the new NorCal bdr route and I can't wait to get the new Himmy out and on the route! I don't even have a bum knee so I have no excuse now!! Heal well and keep up the great adventures and content you're giving us with it!!

I've got a soft spot for the anemic RE Himalayan 411 as I rode it (and crashed it) exploring the Yukatan Peninsula in Mexico. It will chug along like a small tank.

@@MySeniorMoments Sorry to hear that was the bike you went down on. Anything I should watch out for re the Himmy?

Am glad to see your recovery going well, and good to see that you are strengthening the muscles that support the knee.👍

Too bad we’re just seeing your video. We hosted a Raptor Pack Chili taste at the event. Hope ya had a good time. My rally ended before it began. Went down and broke my clavicle on Wednesday. Look forward to meeting you

Good for you! I hope you have a blast. I will be looking forward to the videos. I admire your determination. I had a relatively minor meniscus surgery a couple years ago, and the effected knee still isn't quite 100% (or even 90%). But I keep banging away, going for hikes and doing the PT. Never surrender. You are an inspiration.

Hi Bruce, as a fellow senior rider (68) I find your video’s very relatable and well done. Glad to hear that you’re going to be at the GL rally. I’ll be heading there from AZ on Wednesday. I’ll be hauling up my CRF450L. Hope to see you there !

There are plenty of easy routes if that's your desire. I rode last year with a guy I met there who was 72. They also have meetings in the mornings to meet up with similar skill riders. Sadly I can't go this year. Enjoy the hot spring every night after a long day of riding.

Another informative video, have fun at the rally - keep on getting stronger on the knee and take care. We are heading out for a two day ride going to Newport/South Beach for an overnighter.

If you’re still using the stock foot pegs definitely ditch them and get some rival pegs. I’m not much of a doodad guy but the foot pegs were worth every penny. It was way more comfortable for standing and even better while sitting.

I’m attending the event also. I went last year and it had rained hard during the night and the first day was literally a wash out. There are several routes to take that vary in length and difficulty. May I suggest that you make friends with the people that are riding bigger bikes, that should keep you from getting into trouble.

There is a book i have replaced several times, of Hot Springs of the West (that might even be the title) including Geothermal maps, that I think you would enjoy. You are in those areas.

Good luck with the knee . I found the 390 just to cramped for me . I’m waiting for a new model

Be careful on the rides from the Giant Loop Rally. Last year, there was no indication of difficulty for the different routes. I crashed, but it was 100% due to my own incompetence. I hope you have a great time; it's a little far for me to come from Canada.

Are you wearing any Knee braces ? Kinda tough healing when you are in your 70's.

    • @MySeniorMoments

I am wearing O'Neil knee pads, but not braces.

My buddy and I will be there. I'm 71 and will be on a wr250r with saddle bags.He will be on a klr 650. Hopefully we can meet. I have knee and a disk that give me fits, but doing it any way. Also I just purchased a set of the Leatt knee brace. Amazon has them for $99. Double flex with nice padding. It will be my first time using them. Walking and bending is easy because of the two articulated hinges. Solid knee cap and shin protection.
