The origins of Cobra Commander are shrouded in mystery, and often contradicted by the villain himself, perhaps in an attempt to perpetually keep his enemies in the dark when it comes to their eternal nemesis.

From "Used Cars Salesman" to "Wanted World Terrorist Leader"... yep, retail will do that to a person.
I work in retail.
So I can see how I could be CC.
If a car salesman is able to persuade you into any deal, he's destined to become a terrorist leader xD
This deserves more likes 😅
I use to work in retail....a path of no where as I call it.... many leave with a grudge but those that stay do anything to get up top...Majority of the times it's bad
The most underrated supervilliain.
I can't believe Antarctica has an opinion on things.
@@highjumpstudios2384 True
Antarctica eeyep an underrated supervillian and one not to be underestimated see that is why I really like and respect the dreaded cobra commander the both of us demand respect and fears within our ranks and Inner Circle and we both strive for power and Global dominance.
Oh Yeah Cobra Commander Was The Best 80's Villiain Of All Times i Also ❤ His Voice Him skeletor And megatron Should Start a Band
No matter how highly anyone thinks of him, he'll still be underrated.
Corporate Commander? Anyone? Okay.
"Youuuuuuu need it!!"
XD
He's a man not a god!!
When Angry Joe himself was not corrupt himself...yea I remember those times
Can't believe I never noticed that reference, Good one Angry Joe.
"Morons! I have morons on my payroll!" - Cobra Commander
So true, since it is a television series for kids. In the comics, his henchmen are compitant.
Where is the storyline where he secretly takes over Activison? you know, when he turns into Corporate Commander. XD
+RealMenDontShave shh that one still hidden because the AJSA has nothing on him so far
+j marine XD. We must be careful, indeed. Or He will unleash another wave of movie licence games upon us!
RealMenDontShave yep
and added supply drops to black ops 3
THis video barely goes into Cobra Commander's origin story. Here's the full story (from the marvel version).
Cobra Commander was originally used car salesman from a fictional town in Staten Island called Springfield, not to be confused with the real-life Springfield, Illinois. Springfield's government was corrupt and put enormous pressure on working families and local business owners in favor of wealthy outsiders.
When Cobra Commander's business fell on hard times, the government refused to help him. The future commander took the loss of his business very hard and wound up driving his wife and son away. He blamed the American government for his misfortune, although it was only partially to blame. Around this time, the Commander's brother died in a car accident that also killed Snake-Eyes' family. Cobra Commander's vendetta against Snake Eyes led to hard master's death and Storm Shadow being framed.
Cobra Commander realized that he could abuse the system as well and began his bid for power. Using his incredible talent as an orator, the commander swayed the residents of Springfield to his cause, officially starting the cobra organization.
Not complete, but much better than the video shown.
I love the idea of Cobra Commander just being an average American guy who dreams up a novel way to make lots and lots of money. He's like an evil(er) Ray Kroc.
@@TheInflicted I agree. The path to Hell is paved with good intentions. In this case, CC wanted to control the government better than they could themselves.
babysinclairfan wow good origin dude when and where should I find the comic book of one my favorite villains.
I was a maaaaaaaaaaan! ~ Cobra from the animated GI Joe movie
+BigTymerz2009
Great movie
BigTymerz2009 It and the 80s animated tv show were the best.
Men may rule, but serpents never!
My favorite part of his original origin was that what got him into starting Cobra was a need for revenge for his brother Dan. From Wikipedia "When Dan returned from Vietnam, he displayed deep psychological trauma, and took to self-destructive behavior, resulting in his death in a car collision with another family. Devastated by the loss of his brother, the future Cobra Commander blamed the family's survivor: another war veteran, against whom the young Cobra Commander formed an elaborate
revenge scheme." That soldier he blamed was Snake Eyes.
Cobra Commander's brother killed Snake Eyes' family as they were on their way to the airport to pick Snake Eyes up when he returned from Vietnam.
Whoa, never read that part in the original comic series. Love it, though. Fits perfectly.
Hail Cobra
Lol
+Da Prez James no Hail lelouch
All Hail Megatron!
+apedreitor Lelouch can beat Megatron just by geassing him
+überguy i seen some G1 on tv i am more of a beast wars fan?
If I remember the comic book correctly, CC tells Destro that starting COBRA after being a used car salesman was a step towards becoming more honest.
I still prefer the Chris Latta version best. Especially the out there over the top origin in the 1987 animated movie. "They just don't make Terrorists like they used to.........COBRRRRRRRAAAH!!!"
You didn't like Joseph Gordon Levitt?
I thought he did okay. His version was a compromise just like the 2 live action films were a compromise in general. I understand that your going to have to recast Cobra Commander and Starscream regardless because the late great Chris Latta died in 1994. I just want somebody that will channel Chris Latta's versions as much as possible. Because how can you top those 2 characters he made his own.
COBRA LALALALLALALALALALALALA
strike4able
In the animated movie from the 80s they shout that.
Lol I was hoping someone would do that. From Serpentor.
+rodster6
Best scene
nice. someone revealed their age!!! i was happy someone else remembered that slogan!
I was a man. A mmmaaannn.
"Cobra!!!! Retreat!!!!! RETREAT!!!!!!!!!"
Wait, when they change he's origin, as far as i remember the Cobra Commander was the young brother of the man (a vietnam vet i think) who car crashed and killed Snake Eyes family, and because of that he started the cobra organization (first as a ponzy scheme and sort of a cult) to get he's revenge and eventually take over the world, was much later when he started the "Fred" program to get duplicates in case he died.
that's the version I recall. the car crash with his son is unrelated. the comic has a much more in-depth story line that is much more realistic! I wish they would have a TV series based on those story lines.
They skipped that part of the origin. That was revealed earlier in the series than 55.. and later....
IDW had a different origin than Marvel
You need to do a origin on Fumbles
It wasn't always fumbles
Classic robot chicken sketch. Lol
+KINGSEANFAME yep
"Wow, uh, great job... Trouser Snake."
"It's Fumbles. It was always Fumbles."
Am I the only one who actually kind of likes the GI Joe movies? They're so action packed!
Yes, the *true* Cobra Commander. Not that swiveling weasel from the tv show. The Cobra Commander of the comics would kill the tv Cobra Commander, with his bare hands.
lol, that's kinda true, but still the OG has an iconic presence to it, literally it was a kids show made to market toys Hasbro made.
i like that the voice actor of Starscream in the 80's also voiced cobra commander, there was one crossover episode in transformers where cobra commander had a cameo in the show with him wearing a fedora and and an inconspicuous coat, that version of cobra got an action figure model and it looks sick.
The GI JOE comics are great!
+HamanKarn567 100%. The feature film movies were awful though. Especially when Joseph Gordon- Levitt showed his face and no mystery left in the first film. Those popcorn movies did not have much replay value.
alanguages I liked that version of Cobra Commander. In the sequel.
as a kid & later a teen, I liked Marvels gi joe: special missions. it put the elite or tier one joes in more realistic situations.
They should make a live action movie adapting the comics.
Hail Cobra! Hail Cobra Commander!
this is something i didnt think i needed. but something im glad i got
When did his tenure as CEO of Electronic Arts begin?
+Whitakerguy Don't you mean Capcom? lol
+Ahmon83 It was Activision wasn't it? :P
+Whitakerguy Right after he gave command of Ubisoft over to Skeletor.
Long live Larry Hama
who next? Starscream?
+deadplanetdalek1963 Nope they already have enough videos of him.
Yes!
+deadplanetdalek1963 same voice
+drunkencabbage yup
+joann dortch Well they are both Chris Latta.
It would have been neat to incorporate the origin presented in the animated movie.
+Manuel de la Fuente Hassler Which was sooo much better than any of these. *sighs*
I like this, you guys should do more gi joe stuff or more non hero comic books
G.I.Joe are heroes, a real American that is.
+Martin Guzman GI Jose
Yuri Azrani oh OK, that's good too.
Can't wait for the Zartan video. Maybe a Bongo the Balloon Bear, too. Lol
Thanks for using the Larry Hama origin of Cobra Commander.
Ah Cobra Commander, the comic book version is my favorite bad guy ever.
Do Supervillain origins:Firefly next!
Eh...Firefly is cooler without his origin.
Red Skull vs. Cobra Commander who would win.
Depends if the Commander is wearing his battle armor.
The Krake version of Cobra Commander might take it. As much as I hate to say it, without one of those body armor suits, Red Skull would have the edge against the others in a one on one fight.

What does it pay?
Very Interesting
The question I want answered is when will we get a good G.I. Joe movie?
Retaliation was....tolerable.
@@cheeseburger12 It was. I liked Retaliation. It made up for a lot of the sins committed in the first one.
I didn't like that they killed Duke. Yeah, It was Tanning Chatum, but Duke was my favorite Joe. That said, Cobra Commander was badass. And so was Firefly. So 2 out of 3 ain't bad.
Same that they couldn't do Sgt. Slaughter like originally planned. I like Bruce Willis, but the Sarge would have been something.
In a few months....
When they do, they should take stuff from the comics.
Thank you for not using the movie version of cobra commander s backstory
but that was the best
Some of the best comic stories in the alternate (IDW) universe were of past Commanders, including a female Commander in medieval Japan and my favorite, the easily underestimated gardener who led Cobra in the mid-20th century. This patient, calm imperialist is a much more chilling character than the emotionally weak, Hitlerian despot of the Real American Hero universe. He thinks of the world in the same terms as he would of pulling weeds, poisoning pests, and shaping the growth of plants, all to complete his design. When he sees a need to put down insubordination, he is not impulsive, but waits until the moment is ripe, then crushes the offender, whose arrogance is contrasted with the humility needed to attain power.
About time g.i joe got some watch mojo secret origins love . Now do one for snake eyes !!
Hama never wanted any of the more fantastical elements in his comics. He was forced to integrate characters like the psychic twins Tomax & Xamot and Serpentor. When they came to him with Cobra-la, he put his foot down and said absolutely not, that was too far and he had to draw the line somewhere.
Also please note that the video is not titled "Cartoon origins" or "Movie origins" it is called "COMIC BOOK ORIGINS"! You know, from the comics, not the f___ing animated propaganda video (the intro is cool though)!
they need to make more G.I. Joe movies.
kim snooks they need to make GOOD GI Joe Movies!
And screw this dropping of “A Real American Hero” crap! Hasbro just doesn’t want the Ultimate Task Force to be called “American” anymore! Likely to get more global ticket sales.
We're getting a "Snake Eyes" film
Cobra Commander? Nah it's Corporate Commander ;)
Would've been better if you spoke on how the story lines of Cobra Commander, Snake Eyes, Storm Shadow , and Zartan all connect in the original comic book series.
Don't forget about Firefly...
Heeeey, that thumbnail is my cover I did for IDW... But it's cool, you can use it haha!
can you do one of serpentor this I command
Please do the origins of The Shadow, Black Spider, Black Knight, Crossbones, Elektra and Captain America (redux)
they did crossbones already mate
"DESTRO!!!!!" X-O Hi pitched scream here. I never could forget that voice of his.
+cha5 Chris Latta was amazing as both CC and Starscream. It's a shame that he couldn't get his personal demons under control.
I WASSSSS ONCESSSSSSSSSS A MAN!
+deathberry33
Nice movie
do top 10 GI Joes and top 10 Cobras
My favorite cobra commander moment wasn't mentioned here. It was when he took control of Ultra Magnus, Springer, Arcee & Rodimus Prime's bodies. The only reason he failed is because the people he was working with failed.
+Rich Rusch when did he take a tranformers body over?
He didn't. :::SPOILER ALERT:::Technically he helped a guy named Victor Draft take what I could guess to be their minds out of their Autobot bodies. They tried to destroy what they removed but failed and the 4 Autobots took human forms. They planned on using the Autobot bodies to steal but the main reason they did this is the Aiutobots were being an impediment to their business. They planned on blowing up Metroplex also but they failed, not because of Cobra Commander though. It was a season 3 G1 episode called "Only Human"
+Rich Rusch cool
+Rich Rusch B.b.b.but that wasn't Cobra Commander, that was "Old Snake", remember? Hint hint wink wink lol "They just don't make terrorists like they used too! COBR hak hak hakcoughc!"
God I love this villian! about time he gets his due
Do Snakes Eyes next please. :)

Many more to come!
Wow. Did you ever even read the comics? There's so much more to the origin of Cobra Commander in the comicbook by Larry Hama than what you mentioned in this video. Much more. So much more.
They should do more comic book origins instead of stupid needless Top 10s
No no no.... Cobra Commander is a Nobleman from the ancient land of Cobra-La hidden within the Himalayan Mts. He totally pissed off Golobulus (who is realky Burgess Merideth in disguise) who then ironically turned CC into a living King Cobra... I think Crockett from Miami Vice helped or something.
We're talking about the comics incarnation of Cobra Commander, not the animated incarnation. The G.I.Joe comics and animated series are both set in different universes.
Oh... is this the same GI Joe continuity in which an obese Samoan lesbian named Salvo is the toughest member of the team, and Roadblock is an estrogen filled purse puppy to ultra irrational fem-nazi and Joe Leader, Scarlet? Because, nah.... my first GiI Joe action figure was Grunt and I still have my Snake Eyes figure... the one before swivel arm battle grip. I also am looking at my G1 Boba Fett right now... his shoulder is a lil broken but the arm is s still in tact... I had to send away for him in the mail the several proof of purchase UPC codes and a self addressed envelope.
And somewhere I have the original Transformer GI Joe comic crossover I think I bought it for the cover price at the time of 75 cents... or maybe it was $1.00
4:23 that was badass
So, everyone counts the G.I.Joe comics, but not the badass He-Man comics that are right now???? Just why???
I've requested this for over a year now. please do origins of a WonderWoman villain you haven't done a single one
In the animated G.I. Joe The Movie gave Cobra Commander a far more logical "snake" origin from a people that date that thousands of years on earth, Cobra-LA.
It's worth noting that CC murdered his own son and hung the body from a flag pole in the final story of Real American Hero.
Wasn't in the first gi joe series he was a mutated human
yeah dafuq is this watchmojo bullshit
+renji90998 That was only in the cartoon. The comic came out first.
nope that was some bullshit the tv show came up with.
+renji90998
Not he was man from Cobra La, ancient civilization that use biotechnology
renji90998 yes😁🅰🅰😁😁😁😁😁
🅰😁😁🅰😁😁🅰😁
🅰🅰🅰🅰😁🅰🅰🅰
🅰😁😁🅰😁😁🅰😁
🅰😁😁🅰😁😁😁😁
... you went an entire video of the origins of Cobra Commander without ONCE playing the iconic clip of him yelling out "COOOOBRAAAAA!"...?
Fail. Just... fail...
You should do top 10 underrated Disney movies
You guys should do Manga Origins.
Yes. Why no Manga Origin: Sailor Moon? Why no Manga Origin: Ranma Soatome? Why no Manga Origin: One Punch Man?
Thy should have a dedicated series, I must agree, but I believe that one punch man has an origin...maybe...idk there is actually quite a bit of content on their channel and website.
Not the SPORES!!!
HE WAS ONCESSSSSSS A MAN!
I didn't even know I wanted to know his origins!!
I thought he was a lizard man that worked for master Globulus.
Yes I am a fan of the sinister Cobra Commander
The movies blew goats. And C/C was like Darth Vader lite...pathetic...
I like the version of CC in the 2nd movie. I wish they had him in hooded mask. It makes him look more sinister (looks KKKish).
Lol. right
@@pantslizard he's not pathetic
In the new IDW run of G.I Joe I find more interesting the old cobra commander.
I keep thinking he's corporate commander from the anrgy joe show.
I loved the UK Version In later editions of the Battle Action Force series, Ironblood betrays the Red Shadows, leaking information about their bases and intentions to the UN. As the Shadows are under attack, Ironblood goes into hiding and constructs a new identity for himself, becoming Cobra Commander, and creating Cobra as a new enemy force.
The continuity of the storyline was maintained as the Black Major (a former traitor from Action Force), Red Laser and Red Vulture re-grouped the Red Shadows and sought revenge against Cobra Commander and the newly amalgamated 'AF' whilst prominent Red Shadow character Red Jackal was given his own storyline, transforming to Destro and joining Cobra. Additional storylines saw the Red Shadows fighting alongside the Nazis against both Cobra and Action Force. In Showdown for the Shadows, the Shadows make their final appearance.
Do Snake Eyes next!
Interesting
Hail Cobra!
snake eyes next
show me the original Cobra Commander came from Cobra law. there he was a brilliant scientist and he got disfigured from a lab accident. that's the Cobra Commander I know
Cobra-La!!!!! As in Shangra-La.
Well that's pretty nifty I didn't know that
The comics came out before the cartoon.
I know I know but I can't help but respect the cartoons. besides it makes more sense for him to be a snake creature. then a human wearing a mask but that's just my opinion. lol
It's more beep with cobra commander being human because he is a monster in his sole but can blend in and go unnoticed.
@ 0:30 ........"Or noooootthhiing at all"..!!
I hate his movie voice! He sounds like a drunk Bane impersonation.
Yeah I really wasn't happy with the GI Joe movies maybe it's just too many characters and all but for some reason it didn't work for me.There not horrible movies far from it and yes CC voice is shit it's to bad the guy who did his original voice has passed on but I'm sure there are others who could do it and put a mordern twist on it
In the cartoon he was a nobleman from cobra la who got hit by spores, golobulus saw him and asked him to form an organisation so that cobra la can rise again
In the live action movies he was rex Lewis a military scientist who was interested in nanomites thanks to Dr mindbender and because of him he survived an airstrike and became "the doctor" after some time he donned a new mask and became the cobra commander
do the shredder next
So the events in the "Animated" G.I. Joe movie from the 80's IS FOREVER non-canon then?
Thank God!
Cobrala was an extremely stupid idea anyway...
+JuanMamaril You know, not many people know this, but the reason there was a GI Joe Animated Series is because people loved the cartoon commercials for the GI Joe comic books. So they did a mini-series for the first few episodes and got viewer feedback on that and then went into production on a full series. It's also the way they did the Transformers series. My town was one of the research markets, so we saw them before most of America did and I was actually asked to write down my thoughts and send them in at age 8 (they wanted the kids views on the show) and as thanks for me doing it, Hasbro sent me a Swamp Skier/Zartan pack.
Seeing this is the sister show of Transformers that had several crossovers with G.I. Joe and the fact Transformers has this huge established mulitverse. I'm sure both the comic Cobra and cartoon movie Cobra are both canon.
Say what you will, this still beats the hell out of the Cobra La origin.
CrimsonNineTail watching paint dry is better than cobra la. ;-)
Can't you use the one in the cartoon
I love this guy he the greatest villain ever long live cobra ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Captain Cobra Commander! No, just Cobra Commander
I was Cobra Commander from GI Joe: Retaliation for Halloween twice.
I really like the Rise of Cobra version a lot really.
YES WE SHALL!
Do Red Hood pls!
They didn’t do the 86 movie where he was a Cobrala noble who was scarred by spores.
Cobra Commander's helmet in G.I. Joe: Retaliation is similar to G.I. Joe cartoon.
So did they give up on the movie series?
Wait, hold on there Watchmojo. You've done a lot of comic book origins, maybe you could do something like Manga origins.
Who was the voice of Cobra Commander in the cartoon?
Video idea: top ten South Park episodes
you guys should do a comic book origins about scrooge mcduck
The comic version of Cobra Commander sure is vastly different from his animated incarnation.
Wow- those Gi Joe movies were soooooo soooo bad....
The animated movie was actually pretty awesome and was the only decent movie version.
+Seldz1 Just like Transformers.
Cobra Commander is a citizen of Cobra La...
This guy should do a talk show with the baroness.
