I now live in a place which is outside their range, and sure miss seeing and hearing them! 😔 The ability to produce a double note is not unique to the Indigo bunting, however. It's indicitive of all oscine passerines because they possess a combination of a specially evolved syrinx and neural pathways which allows the birds to produce those sounds, but also learn to produce and refine them. 😉🐦
